I have to admit, I am disappointed. The first trilogy (Kushiel's Dart, Kushiel's Chosen, and Kushiel's Avatar) was incredible. This was not. While Imriel is an engaging character with his own flaws, weaknesses, strengths, and desires, I just don't think he can compare with Phedre. Furthermore, in this book at least, all that really happens is the set-up, a lot of whining, and some limited self-discovery. In Kushiel's Dart we had all that plus an over-arching plot, a deadly struggle, and many battles (both physical and political). Here, Imri goes to college. Hardly the same scale, is it?

Jacqueline Carey is an incredible writer and her writing style here is, as always, beautiful, eloquent, and evocative. Yet, the plot falls through. The reader finds him or herself caring more about Phedre and Joscelin (who are little more than cameos, here), Alais (whose importance declines very quickly, and just about everyone else more than Imriel.

So, on the whole, for those who really loved the first three books, this one is worth a read. However, don't get your hopes up.

I loved the story line but The ending had to be the worst i ever read:(
Rice could have gone another chapter to really give us a wow. It kind of just dropped off???

This book is great I loved all the stories. I bought an erotica book prior to this but I wasn't too pleased with it. The stories were made up and some submitted by men. I don't want to read about some strange man's fantasy. This book was really great though. I descretely brought it into school and read it during my study halls... It made my day again and again with every page I turned. If you're looking for some great, true stories. This is your book.

Overrated but still a great read 4 out of 5 stars.

I picked up this book based on rave reviews and countless recommendations. I can't say I was disappointed, but I will say Promises Linger isn't "the best book out there", as I was told so many times. Asa and Elizabeth are great, complex characters, but they might have been a little too complex for my taste. I was a little upset that we didn't have more background on either character, especially Asa. He is supposedly a feared gunslinger, but we don't learn about any of his gun-for-hire work. He is so peaceful and in charge, and he falls so easily into the ranching role that the gunslinger background feels very unsupported.

Also, I felt that the crude sex scenes and foul language really took away from the sweet love story. Granted, it is "erotic romance", but the erotica conflicted with the romance so badly that it felt like I was reading bits and pieces of two different novels--a sweet old-fashioned love story and a cheap porno. Even now as I type my review, I can't shake the feeling that I really did read two separate books. It was just too choppy and artificial for me to feel that the two aspects merged together effectively. I can't really explain exactly how this book differs from other (better) erotica, but in Promises Linger the rough language and crude sexual terms cheapen the story and detract from the tenderness between Asa and Elizabeth. It just doesn't feel natural. I understand the crudeness from Asa's point of view, but it's very odd coming from Elizabeth, who's supposedly such an innocent and gentle lady.

All in all--despite my pickiness--it is a great story. Just read it for entertainment and I'm sure you'll love it.

...... Well, no, not really, if truth be told.

With this new collection of short stories, Nancy Madore reinterprets eight popular nursery rhymes in her distinctive style, each offering a witty, clever and titillating variation on old favorites like Humpty Dumpty and Georgie Porgie.

Written with the modern woman in mind, the collection includes stories about women who have loved, women who have lost, and women who perhaps would have been better off if they hadn't bothered in the first place. You'll need to read it to determine which is which.

Starting off with "Birds of a Feather", Madore tells the tale of a bored housewife looking for a different sort of stimulation, and things take a very strange turn when she finds what she thinks she's looking for.

Next comes "Curly Locks", which goes in a completely unexpected direction, followed by "Desperate Dan", "Georgie Porgie", "Hot Cross Buns", "Little Miss Muffet", "Peter, Peter Pumpkin Eater" and "Humpty Dumpty".

They're all page turners, but the ones I'd pick as stand-outs would be "Desperate Dan", "Little Miss Muffet" and "Peter, Peter Pumpkin Eater".

Although each story has its fair share of the juicy stuff, this collection is much more than just erotica, with its well developed and unique characters and situations, and lots of sneaky twists thrown in for good measure.

Recommended for fans of intelligent, thought-provoking short stories and steamy literary encounters.

Storm is a man who doesn't believe in love...not in any way, shape or form. He only believes a woman has one purpose and after that is over he wants her gone from his life. He never thought he would want a forever after with a woman until....Syleena Webster comes into his life and then he pushes her away instead of telling his sister gorgeous roommate that he's attracted to her.

Syleena Webster is one of the best heroines that I have read about in a long time. She's trusting, loving and understanding. Despite that fact that Storm is practically mean to her everyttime she crosses his path after five years, she still tries to see the good in him. She slowly starts to fall in love with the moody rancher/banker.

After a lot of ups and downs in their relationship Storm finally gives into his feelings and does what his heart wants him to do. However, he ends up messing everything up with Syleena by insulting her in the most heartbreaking way. She leaves his life and he moves heaven and earth to get her back in his arms and his ring back on her finger.

Marie Rochelle has written a lot of books, but in my opinion this is the best. She had me drawn into from the first moment I got introduced to him. This story will have you turning the pages so fast because you can't wait to read what is going to happen next. I love these characters and I plan to read this book again and again.

Yet in spite of the Venusian heat, the threat to Sienna enhances the overall plot as fans will wonder whether she will flee again and if not can Mac keep her safe. This is an enjoyable heated thriller.

ON the world of Sentmar magic is contained in the bodies of the male, Twin wizards, and the female, princess. Only when the three are joined do they come into their greatest powers.

Brianna, has only heard horror stories of the joining. As a matter of fact there have been no joined pairs in a thousand yrs. Now all the magic is going away. She has to join with Lasan and Drago.

Lasan and Drago are twins with one soul and heart in 2 bodies. They have been promised their Consort, but Brianna is unwilling to join with the both of them. However, the unmagiced people are begining to attack and will soon overcome both male and female magic users if the balance is not adjusted.

I really didn't think this would be a good read. But it is not just a good romance, it has a great plot and I hope she intends to write the story of Brianna's two sisters. It was a very good fantasy.
