Editorial Review:

Harris serves up a treat that will capture and enchant audiences everywhere—a big, bold, and irresistible novel about football, family, and secrets.

Brady Bledsoe and his mother, Carmyn, have a strong relationship. A single mother, faithful churchgoer, and the owner of several successful Atlanta beauty salons, Carmyn has devoted herself to her son and his dream of becoming a professional football player. Brady has always followed her lead, including becoming a member of the church’s "Celibacy Circle." Now in his senior year at college, the smart, and very handsome, Brady is a lead contender for the Heisman Trophy and a spot in the NFL.

As sports agents hover around Brady, Barrett, a beautiful and charming cheerleader, sets her mind on tempting the celibate Brady and getting a piece of his multimillion-dollar future—but is that all she wants from him, and is she acting alone?

Carmyn is determined to protect her son. She’s also determined to protect the secret she’s kept from Brady his whole life. As things heat up on campus and Carmyn and Brady’s idyllic relationship starts to crumble, mother and son begin to wonder about the other—are you just too good to be true?

A sweeping novel about mothers and sons, football and beauty shops, secrets and lies, JUST TOO GOOD TO BE TRUE has all the ingredients that have made E. Lynn Harris a bestselling author: family, friendship, faith, and love.

This series get better with each volume as the emotional battle comes to a dramatic conclusion. 5 out of 5 stars.
0 of 0 people found this review helpful.

I really have a wonderful time finishing this series in one go. This story just gets better with each volume as the emotional struggles among the 4 actors deepen. The TV action hero series, in which the 4 guys starred in, serving as a background is refreshing and it plays like a sub plot. Sensei really has a fun time drawing the costumes :).

We know the outcome of this quadrangle love story. However it is the emotional battle to get there which holds my attention from Vol 2 onwards as I naturally root for both "hero" and "villain" to be together.
Who is my favorite character. It is ofcourse Sawada. He is such a cool, cool seme, his silence and near cynical outlook of life, making him such an interesting character. As the story progresses we almost fully understand Sawada's feelings and he remains a mystique till the end. Minami brought to the brink of despair by Sawada's rejection is one vulnerable character with a naivety and "goodness" which I find sometimes frustrating but then he is forgiven because he is afterall the uke hero. Katagiri may have most readers' sympathy by the end of Vol 3 but then I never rooted for him. I quite like Takagi, the more mature uke who learn the hard way there is no second chance in love, and find myself rooting for his and Sawada's reconciliation but that will not be the Yaoi ending we want. LOL.

I enjoy Hero Heel a lot. The 4 guys may have similar features (something sensei could improve on?) but they are 4 distinct characters and their emotional struggles to hold on to the one they love makes Hero Heel one captivating Yaoi. And the sex in Vol 3 is both sensual and sexy, and a bonus point to sensei for the condom :).

Editorial Review:

Minami chooses Katagiri over Sawada not to forget, but to move forward. However, after suddenly receiving a kiss from Sawada, who he was supposed to have forgotten, Minami's heart is severely shaken! Feelings grow complicated as filming and Minami's relationships reach a climax!

During the restless summer weeks, unrelenting but buried currents of obsession, fascination, and desire intensify their passion as they test the charged ground between them and verge toward the one thing both already fear they may never truly find again: total intimacy. Excellent 4 out of 5 stars.
1 of 1 people found this review helpful.

A deeply felt and personal short novel about an American ex-patriot who falls in love with another man in Paris. Baldwin establishes an undeniable tension between David's desire for Giovanni and his desire to live a normal life with his fiancee. There are many quiet and subtle moments in 'Giovanni's Room' that are as good as the best sections in early Hemingway. In a way this novel is more personal and reflective than Baldwin's much esteemed 'Go Tell it On the Mountain,' though it clearly does not have the same political involvement with race relations as the latter does. As always, Baldwin's dialogue is largely impeccable, weaving seamlessly from colloquial interactions, to French, to formal and reserved English. Truly a fine literary achievement.

Editorial Review:

Set in the 1950s Paris of American expatriates, liaisons, and violence, a young man finds himself caught between desire and conventional morality. With a sharp, probing imagination, James Baldwin's now-classic narrative delves into the mystery of loving and creates a moving, highly controversial story of death and passion that reveals the unspoken complexities of the human heart.

Marriage = Death 5 out of 5 stars.

Stevenson is a longtime master at the gay mystery, at Death Vows is the his latest book to delight and torment the amateur detective.

Mystery, murder, extortion and plenty of dark secrets keep Death Vow barreling ahead to it's deadly conclusion.

Don Strachey is one of the most enduring gay detectives out there, and Death Vows reminds us why this sexy and determined sleuth has lasted for so long. I just wish we had gotten to see more of his boyfriend Timothy in this book! Let's hope we see more of this sweet and funny couple in the future.

Death Vows 4 out of 5 stars.

Gay PI Donald Strachey is reluctant when two men want to hire him to investigate the fiancée of a friend of theirs, but he agrees to take the case. He soon discovers no one is who they seem to be, not even his clients. Although he tries to extracat himself from the situation, Donald finds himself drawn back in when one of his former clients is murdered, and the man he was investigating is implicated. Can Donald figure out who really murdered the victim before it's too late?

Death Vows is the second Donald Strachey mystery I've read, and I really enjoyed it. Strachey is a fascinating character. In Death Vows, he seems to have settled into his life somewhat, especially when it comes to his lover Timothy Callahan. Fortunately, he still has the same sarcastic sense of humor and strong yet ambiguous convictions. Sometimes his desire to make a living conflicts with his desire to do what's right, but he always makes the right decision--eventually. Secondary characters, including Timothy, various clients and suspects, and contacts of Strachey's are colorful and interesting. The mystery itself kept me guessing and turning pages. While I would have liked to have seen more of Timothy in Death Vows, it's an entertaining installment to the Donald Strachey series. Readers who enjoy quirky characters and interesting, unusual mystery plots should not hesitate to pick up Death Vows.

Editorial Review:

Gay marriage in Massachusetts is a fine institution------except when it leads to murder, as it does in this taut, suspenseful Don Strachey private eye novel, the ninth in the classic series. Strachey and his loving foil, Timothy Callahan, are back in perfect form in this witty, ripped-from-the-headlines thriller.

A Deeply Moving Novel 5 out of 5 stars.
1 of 1 people found this review helpful.

This novel/memoir chronicles the world of a working class lesbian, gay, and transgendered people from the days before Stonewall to the present. It is a classic and probably the most important book available about transgender issues. I cried reading it on the train.

Feinberg is a committed communist, and some of the scenes involving worker solidarity are a contrived, but the book is well written and deeply moving. The scenes of gay bashing are, I should warn you, horrific, but this is a book very much worth reading.

Editorial Review:

Published in 1993, this brave, original novel is considered to be the finest account ever written of the complexities of a transgendered existence.

Woman or man? That's the question that rages like a storm around Jess Goldberg, clouding her life and her identity. Growing up differently gendered in a blue--collar town in the 1950's, coming out as a butch in the bars and factories of the prefeminist '60s, deciding to pass as a man in order to survive when she is left without work or a community in the early '70s. This powerful, provocative and deeply moving novel sees Jess coming full circle, she learns to accept the complexities of being a transgendered person in a world demanding simple explanations: a he-she emerging whole, weathering the turbulence.

Leslie Feinberg is also the author of Trans Liberation, Trans Gender Warriors and Transgender Liberation, and is a noted activist and speaker on transgender issues.

Love this one. A gem of a vol 2. 5 out of 5 stars.
1 of 1 people found this review helpful.

It has been more that 1.5 years since the release of Loveholic 1. This sequel is just as charming if not better and I find myself falling in love with Matsukawa and Nishioka all over again. Who would have thought Matsukawa is such a caring and loving seme.

In vol 2, they are more or less a couple but it seems Matsukawa is the only one willing to commit on a deeper level as Nishioka shys away from uttering the 3 "fatal" words. Matsukawa, more open about their relationship, is frustrated but being the more mature seme he is, puts up with Nishioka's fearful reservation. It does not help that the demands of careers and family conspire to keep them apart, culminating to a cross road where the lovers face an ultimatum.

Vol 2 expresses their ups and downs as lovers so well, their feelings convincing, heartfelt, bittersweet yet so loving and tender. There are of course light hearted funny moments too. One particular scene in the carnival is just outrageously cute and the last bonus epilogue on Matsukawa's tattoo is funny yet so sweet.

Toko Kawai's artwork is of course a delight, her guys' expressions so vivid. Loveholic is pure charm and I just love its deeply emotional ending. So glad that June has given us the complete story.

Editorial Review:

Daisuke Matsukawa and the up-and-coming young cameraman Kentaro Nishioka have developed from comrades who work well together into friends who are called lovers. But even though he's sexy, the shy Nishioka is also obstinate and naughty. Poor Matsukawa has no idea where this love affair is headed.

I love this book! 5 out of 5 stars.
5 of 9 people found this review helpful.

I'm a college student majoring in Theater Design. I had to read this play for one of my classes my freshman year. So I sat down expecting to plod through a story that I'd never read again. Boy was I shocked! I loved it! I couldn't put it down until I'd read the last page, and then I got right online and ordered the sequel. Honestly, I'm not as big a fan of the second book. I haven't read it in a while, but from what I remember it's more offensive, and honestly, a little more like smut. There's an angel with 7 vaginas and it has sex with one of the characters...one of the gay characters..go figure. The second book also seems to take more pot shots at God, which I didn't appreciate as a Christian. Anyway. This is a review of the first book, not the second. (just reminding myself!) I have 7 big bookcases of books at my parents' house, plus my dad is a librarian, so I do a LOT of reading. This book is ALWAYS one of the few "Chosen" books that I take to college with me to keep in my dorm. And just as a side note, I'm not gay, so this book is NOT just for gay people like some of the people whom I've talked to seem to think. BUY IT! You'll be enlightened and inspired to think.

Editorial Review:

The most anticipated new American play of the decade, this brilliant work is an emotional, poetic, political epic in two parts: Millennium Approaches and Perestroika. Spanning the years of the Reagan administration, it weaves the lives of fictional and historical characters into a feverish web of social, political, and sexual revelations.

Wonderful, Charming Gay Love Story 5 out of 5 stars.
5 of 5 people found this review helpful.

This was the most heartwarming and engrossing gay love story I've ever read. I loved the way the characters were described, and the realistic way in which their relationship changed over time. As youngsters they clearly understood the danger they faced if their innocent affection for each other was discovered, this was described so well and so realistically it took me back to my own days as a gay youth.

I recommend this love story with no hesitation. The characters are completely believable as is the story line.

I read the Kindle version and could hardly stop.
