Bump Edward, I want and Elec! 5 out of 5 stars.
1 of 1 people found this review helpful.

What a yummy cover. I expected this book to be a fun, hot little number, but it was just so much more. Flat-Out Sexy is a modern day fairy tale and Elec is a modern day Prince Charming! Elec and Tamara are two very likable characters, who you find yourself cheering for their HEA, while some complications are thought through by Tamara. While the escapades are very, very hot (satisfaction guaranteed), this story is relationship driven and all the characters involved you come to care for. This is book one in a Racing Series, all I can say is that I hope it's the beginning of a 12 book series! The next book in the series is Hard and Fast. It will be released in May 2009 and will be the story of Imogen and Ty. She is Tamara's up tight assistant, he's the Godfather of Tamara's daughter and a playboy racecar driver. The preview in the back of the book makes me think May is a long time away!

This is my first Erin McCarthy book, and I think I have another author to gobble up their backlist!!! Thank you Ms. McCarthy for a book I cannot part with!

Editorial Review:

When Mickey Thompson and his wife Trudy were assassinated in their driveway in the pre-dawn hours of March 16, 1988, the salacious details of the crime and the years of legal wrangling that followed made for hundreds of splashy headlines and sexy television soundbytes.

After all, the story had it all . . . unknown hooded gunmen riding into a gated Southern California community on bicycles, ambushing their victims and brutally ending their lives while neighbors ate breakfast and read the morning paper.

Leaving behind more than $70,000 in jewelry, the killing was an obvious “hit,” and those close to Mickey and Trudy immediately pointed to Mickey’s hot-headed former business partner Michael Goodwin as the mastermind behind the tragedy. Nearly 20 years later, Goodwin was found guilty by a Pasadena Superior Court jury in 2006 of two counts of first-degree murder. The actual gunmen were never identified or apprehended.

John Walsh and America’s Most Wanted did multiple episodes leading up to the conviction. Robert Stack featured the murders on Unsolved Mysteries. CBS’ 48 Hours Mystery got in the act. Everyone wanted a piece of the story.

A good story, however, has much more than a powerful ending.

Who was Mickey Thompson? What made him more than just another victim of violent crime in America? This is what Mickey Thompson: The Fast Life and Mysterious Death of a Racing Legend explores.

Mickey was one of the most influential figures in early American motorsports. While he did have loyal and longtime friends, Mickey always did things one way . . . his way. And he did it with speed . . . he did everything with speed.

From his 1950s adventures in the Carrera Panamericana, ending with five dead and dramatic pictures in Life Magazine in 1953, through making a one-way run of 406.60 miles per hour at the Bonneville Salt Flats in 1960 in his famed Challenger, through multiple trend-setting entries in the famed Indianapolis 500 and into the creation of some of the most popular off-road racing series and motor sportsstadium shows, Mickey’s life was full of “firsts.”

And in a world that seems to be moving faster than even Mickey Thompson could have imagined, the complete story of this true American legend is one worth slowing down for.

Editorial Review:

Every NASCAR fan – at one time or another – asks the same question: Why isn’t my favorite driver winning? This is your chance to discover how much more there is to NASCAR than “Go fast, turn left and don’t crash.” If you’ve ever wondered why racecars don’t have mufflers, how “bump drafting” works, or what in the world “Let’s go up a pound on the right rear and add half a round of wedge” means, The Physics of NASCAR is for you.

In this fast-paced investigation into the adrenaline-pumping world of NASCAR, a physicist with a passion uncovers what happens when the rubber hits the road and 800- horsepower vehicles compete at 190 miles per hour only inches from one another.

Diandra Leslie-Pelecky reveals how and why drivers trust the engineering and science their teams literally build around them not only to get them across the finish line in first place, but also to keep them alive. Professor Leslie-Pelecky is a physicist in love with the sport’s beauty and power and is uniquely qualified to explain exactly how physics translates into winning races.

Based on the author’s extensive access to race shops, pit crews, crew chiefs and mechanics, this book traces the life cycle of a race car from behind the scenes at top race shops to the track. The Physics of NASCAR takes readers right into the ultra competitive world of NASCAR, from the champion driver’s hot seat behind the detachable steering wheel to the New Zealander nicknamed Kiwi in charge of shocks for the No. 19 car.

Diandra Leslie-Pelecky tells her story in terms anyone who drives a car--and maybe occasionally looks under the hood--can understand. How do drivers walk away from serious crashes? How can two cars travel faster together than either car can on its own? How do you dress for a 1800°F gasoline fire? In simple yet detailed, high-octane prose, this is the ultimate thrill ride for armchair speed demons, auto science buffs, and NASCAR fans at every level of interest.

Readers, start your engines.

Pretty Basic Info 3 out of 5 stars.
0 of 0 people found this review helpful.

I have heard such great things about Lee Park's riding clinics that I thought I'd try his book. I found it pretty basic. I was really expecting a lot more info about exactly how to improve your riding techniques. He gives a few exercises, but it's not very detailed about how to do them correctly, common mistakes, how to tell what you're doing wrong, how to fix a bad habit, etc. I'm sure he has all that info -- it's just not in his book. I guess you have to take his seminar before he unlocks the treasure chest of knowledge.

Great for small fans of the movie! 5 out of 5 stars.
4 of 5 people found this review helpful.

My two year old who's favorite show is Cars loves these books. They are very simple books that each tell a watered down portion of the story. Each book is from a different character's POV from the movie; Lightning, Mater, Sally, and Doc.

The books are very sturdy which is great for when one of my children decides to get rough with them. The little case they come in is cute and while my boy likes carrying it around, it's made of a much thinner cardboard and I can tell it won't last very long.

All in all, I'm very happy with this product.

very repetative, and not what I thought it would be. 3 out of 5 stars.
3 of 6 people found this review helpful.

Read the book over vacation, the info it gives you is great but a lot of it only works if you actually drive a Formula or Sport Racer Vehicle. Lots of info about tracks and courses, how to get the ideal line in an apex, and how to drive smoothly and fast gain control, then it repeats itself again, so this makes an illusion that there are a lot of secrets even though he is just repeating it using different verbiage. This is a great book for advanced racers that understand the concept and terminology of F1 type races and it helps you prepare for a F1 race too but for an average driver trying to learn the ropes this book might be to hard and doesn't help much with everyday driving since a lot of the techniques is for driving above 150mph and plus F1 has totally different suspension systems and steering systems then regular sport cars so if you try it it might feel weird. You learn the heal toe move which I have been trying to get for a while, very detailed and lots of graphs, data charts, and drawings. I personally had to skip some chapters because I was not interested tracks, officials, and what they do with the flags, and some more stuff because a lot of it does not apply to me as I do not own a formula car or race professionally in such a track they described, but I did read about perfect turning and control plus weight transfer and how to keep that center of gravity which helps me in the real world of driving on the streets. I feel that I am going a lot faster in my car by being able to turn safely yet not slowing my car down to much where it would take longer to accelerate plus I have been able to drive fast yet so smooth that my mom fell asleep the whole time as I drove her. So i was really happy with that info. I am a mechanic and I test race clients vehicles at the track, my average speed is 140mph so you know my point of view

Editorial Review:

Includes discussion of practice techniques, chassis set-up, and working with your pit chief.

Editorial Review:

NASCAR racing reigns as America’s most popular sport not only because of its high-speed thrills and chills but also for the colorful characters and memorable moments this unique fraternity has produced over the past half century. Below are just a handful of excerpts from the sport’s greatest behind-the-scenes stories ever told, as compiled in the first-of-its-kind collection, "Then Junior Said to Jeff…": "I’d rather not elaborate on that," [Dale Earnhardt Sr.] said [when addressing the media after his seventh Winston Cup championship and being asked about the earlier death of driver Neil Bonnett], then paused again. When he looked up, there was genuine pain in his face. His voice was halting when he spoke: "I can’t go fishing in my own lake because of Neil," he said. "Because we fished in it all the time. I can’t. . . . I’ve tried. . . . It’s Neil’s pond." Track promoter Enoch Staley recalls a race on Junior Johnson’s home track of North Wilkesboro Speedway: "I saw something sail out of the stands and over the fence, right in front of [Johnson’s opponent’s] car. It hit the track and broke into a thousand pieces. It was a quart-sized fruit jar filled with white liquor.

Once he’d avoided the shattered glass, Johnson watched what came next with amusement.

"I saw that the law had come to the scene and was trying to arrest the guy," he said. "There was a pretty lively scuffle going on ’til the deputies got him handcuffed and took him off."

But that, according to Staley, wasn’t the funny part.

"Junior didn’t tell the rest of the story," he said. "The fan that got taken to jail was a feller named Ernest Money. He was Junior’s uncle."

If you want to ride a motorcycle safely then you must buy and read this book. I re-read it each year in the winter to refresh my riding skills in preparation for the upcoming riding season. The best book on motorcycle safety skills development.

This book could save your life 5 out of 5 stars.

I strongly suggest purchasing this book. It is full of information to help you become a better rider. As a Road Captain in The Christian Motorcyclist Association it helps me keep our Chapter members informed on safe riding practices. The writer has excellent knowledge of motorcycling and uses many real life situations to illustrate his point. He is very witty in his writing which makes the book fun to read. I would also reccomend the first book Proficient Motorcycling

Editorial Review:

Written as a stand-alone or follow-up to David L. Hough’s wildly successful duo, "Proficient Motorcycling" and "Street Strategies," this book contains invaluable lessons for avoiding nasty accidents. Presenting new tips and topics geared toward protecting riders from road dangers with a special focus on mental and physical preparedness. Diagrams, examples, plain talk, and Hough’s practical attitude make this one of the most accessible guides available.
