Editorial Review:

Evan Delaney, novelist and legal go-fer, is dressed as Diana Ross in order to crash a fancy-dress party and serve a summons, when she hears that Franklin Brand is back in town. Brand is the hit-and-run driver who sentenced Evan's lover Jesse to life in a wheelchair, and killed his best friend. Since the accident, Brand has been avoiding justice overseas; but if he's back, Evan and Jesse are determined to get him, helped by the dead boy's brother Adam. Brand had been a high-flier in Mako Technologies, a cyber-security firm, and this is where Evan starts looking. She quickly uncovers evidence that Brand was embezzling funds, and that Adam's brother knew all about it. So maybe that hit-and-run wasn't an accident at all? Then the policeman investigating is killed, and Adam and Jesse both come under suspicion. The plot has more twists, thrills and spills than a white-knuckle ride, and is complicated by the confused emotions of the main parties involved: Jesse feels a survivor's guilt; Adam resents the fact that Jesse is alive while his brother died. But there are more corpses - including a near miss for Evan herself - to come before the bad guys are finally brought to book.

The Best Evidence Yet on the Goverment's Complicit Actions on 9/11 5 out of 5 stars.
7 of 7 people found this review helpful.

Mark Gaffney introduces what is probably the most damning evidence pointing to U.S. Government foreknowledge of the attacks on 9/11, especially noting the attack on the Pentagon.Mark explains in a clear and concise way about the timeline and details of what he refers to as the "white mystery plane", which is identified by himself with CNN footage and a report by CNN's John King and Anderson Cooper, as the E-4B "Doomsday" Plane. A "Pentagon in the air" if you will. An airforce Government plane the size of a 747 designed to keep the government running while airborne in light of a nuclear attack or any other potential dire National security problem.

The disturbing facts layed out here leaves a chill down your spine.

With video and photo evidence and CNN and others as witnesses, there is no disputing the fact that this plane was seen flying over the Pentagon and Whitehouse vicinity just as the attack on the Pentagon was occuring or had just occured within seconds. If the Government had the foreknowledge to have a E-4B lifted and arrival over the D.C. restricted air space at the time of the attack, then why did the 9/11 Commission leave this out of their final report?

If Government officials knew of the attack in advance, then they were complicit in not evacuating the Pentagon. The fact is officials already had enough information in advance to order an evacuation. Between the knowledge of hijacked planes, the WTC attacks, in conjunction with our now awareness of the many previous drills on possible attacks on the WTC's and the Pentagon, there is no acceptable excuse.

But this incredible piece of evidence just confirms their frightening complicit actions. There is no way around it now.

These are the questions that Mark asks and expands upon in this book. And as one reviewer before me says, he does it very well. Not only does he present clear and irrefutable evidence based on mainstream reports on the E-4B plane but he presents such information on the hijackers ("the flying patsies" as one chapter is called), the irrefutable evidence in the WTC collapses such as molten steel, whispering dust, the flawed NIST report, and on and on.

But to my biggest surprise of them all, Mark has a whole chapter on "Why the war on terror is a fraud". It is over 30 pages long and reveals how Dick Cheney stated in the late 90's how imposing sanctions (which Clinton did) on Iran "are self defeating" while Cheney's Halliburton was doing business with Iran.

How Iran, in the aftermath of 9/11 handed over (voluntarily as to help) lists of terrorists, intelligence about the Taliban's military assets which included valuable targeting information, and use of Iran's airfields. But in January 2002 just as the Afghanistan was stablizing , GWB made his infamous "Axis of Evil" speech where he included Iran along with North Korea and Iraq.

Since the 1967 Six day war, such President's Carter, Reagan, Bush senior, and Clinton had been regional peace brokers between Israel and the Palestinians. But not George W. Bush, who had a "hands off policy", and was not interested in brokering for peace with Palestine.

Gaffney goes on to explain how Israel PM Ariel Sharon most likely was a big influence since he had entered office in Feb. of 2001, just a month after W. had. Since then, it's been a catastrophe. Sharon proved to be a controversial, & a violent criminal leader.

For instance, Sharon directed a military offensive against Palestine in 2002 while the crown prince of Saudi Arabia,Abdullah - was working out a sweeping peace treaty with Israel. And even worse, Colin Powell was in Israel around this time offering peace talks and a political horizon. But Powell received a call from a Whitehouse official telling him to back off, or more precisely, that Powell was not authorized to talk about a political horizon.

Gaffney explains how Abdullah flew to Texas to confront Bush and to ask him if he was going to do anything about the Palestinian issue. Bush was evasive with his answers in which the crown prince became upset. Bush then made a promise to Abdullah that he would give the issue his upmost consideration which seemed to satisfy the prince.

But not only did Bush abandon this issue, but he also abandoned the peace treaty drafted by Abdullah and went ahead and attacked Iraq.

The most revealing information of all is NOT just how Sharon wrapped Bush around his finger but how Bush's unconditional support for Israel actually began.

A look inside President Bush's "special relationship" to Israel appeared in an Aug. 3, 2006 McClatchy wire story by Ron Hutcheson. Hutcheson interviewed Matthew Brooks, who was the executive director of the Republican Jewish Coalition in 1998, when he escorted then-Texas Gov. George W. Bush and three other GOP governors on a tour of the Middle East. It was on this trip that Bush had his first encounter with Ariel Sharon, then the Israeli Foreign Minister, who took him on a helicopter tour of the Israeli Occupied Territories.

"If there's a starting point for George W. Bush's attachment to Israel," Brooks told Hutcheson, "it's the day in late 1998, when he stood on a hilltop where Jesus delivered the Sermon on the Mount, and, eyes brimming with tears, read aloud from his favorite hymn, `Amazing Grace.' He was very emotional. It was a tear-filled experience. He brought Israel back home with him in his heart. I think he came away profoundly moved."

Author Mark Gaffney ends this chilling chapter with this sobering thought:

(I added the quotation marks)

"Need I remind the reader the disatrous quagmires in Iraq and Afghanistan, the looming crisis with Iran, the slumping U.S. dollar and economy, not to mention the skyrocketing price of gas at the pump, all resulted from the pivotal activities of September 11 and it's mysterious white plane"?

I have read half a dozen or more books related to 9/11 government complicity but no other book puts the chilling effects of it all in full context except for maybe Dr. David Ray Griffith's books, whom by the way does the foward on this book.

Last but not least. Go see Bill Maher's RELIGULOUS (at least the final 5 minutes or so) and watch and listen to what Maher has to say and, whether you practice a faith or not, please take in what he has to say along with this fantastic book and the other related books, films, and articles and piece together yourself -- the armageddon agenda -- whether intentional or not, that these leaders have put forth to many unbeknownst citizens who remain alseep to what has and is going on around them.

Editorial Review:

Unlike other accounts of the historic attacks on 9/11, this discussion surveys the role of the world’s most advanced military command and control plane, the E-4B, in the day’s events and proposes that the horrific incidents were the work of a covert operation staged within elements of the U.S. military and the intelligence community. Presenting hard evidence in the form of proprietary photos taken from raw footage filmed by CNN, the account places the world’s most advanced electronics platform circling over the White House at approximately the time of the Pentagon attack. The argument offers an analysis of the new evidence within the context of the events and shows that it is irreconcilable with the official 9/11 narrative.

AN INVESTIGATION INTO MURDER

In God's Name has been at the top of the bestseller lists all over the world. It contains some of the most explosive and dramatic revelations ever published about the internal affairs of the Vatican.

During the late evening of September 28th or the early morning of September 29th, 1978, Pope John Paul I, Albino Luciani, known as 'the smiling Pope' died only thirty-three days after his election.

David Yallop began his investigation into this death at the request of certain individuals resident in Vatican City who were disturbed by a cover-up of the true circumstances surrounding the discovery of the Pope's body. It is his conviction that murder was the fate of Albino Luciani and he presents his evidence in this enthralling book.

Over three years continual and exhaustive research, David Yallop uncovered a chain of corruption that linked leading figures in financial, criminal and clerical circles around the world in a conspiracy of awesome proportions. To this day, several years after its first publication (1984), the central questions raised in In God's Name remain unanswered and the frightening accusations still undisputed.

Editorial Review:

The most facile presidential comparison one could make for George W. Bush would be his father, who presided over a war in Iraq and a struggling economy. Some "neocons" reject the parallel and compare Bush to his father's predecessor, Ronald Reagan, citing a plainspoken quality and a belief in deep tax cuts. But John Dean goes further back, seeing in Bush all the secrecy and scandal of Dean's former boss, the notorious Richard Nixon. The difference, as the title of Dean's book indicates, is that Bush is a heck of a lot worse. While the book provides insightful snippets of the way Nixon used to do business, it offers them to shed light on the practices of Bush. In Dean's estimation, the secrecy with which Bush and Dick Cheney govern is not merely a preferred system of management but an obsessive strategy meant to conceal a deeply troubling agenda of corporate favoritism and a dramatic growth in unchecked power for the executive branch that put at risk the lives of American citizens, civil liberties, and the Constitution. Dean sets out to make his point by drawing attention to several areas about which Bush and Cheney have been tight-lipped: the revealing by a "senior White House official" of the identity of an undercover CIA operative whose husband questioned the administration, the health of Cheney, the identity of Cheney's energy task force, the information requested by the bi-partisan 9/11 commission, Bush's business dealings early in his career, the creation of a "shadow government", wartime prisoners held at Guantanamo Bay, and scores more. He theorizes that the truth about these and many other situations, including the decision to go to war in Iraq, will eventually surface and that Bush and Cheney's secrecy is a thus far effective means of keep a lid on a rapidly multiplying set of lies and scandals that far outstrip the misdeeds that led directly to Dean's former employer resigning in disgrace. Dean's charges are impassioned and more severe than many of Bush's most persistent critics. But those charges are realized only after careful reasoning and steady logic by a man who knows his way around scandal and corruption. --John Moe

Editorial Review:

Working with thousands of previously unreleased documents and drawing on more than one thousand interviews, with many witnesses speaking out for the first time, Joan Mellen revisits the investigation of New Orleans district attorney Jim Garrison, the only public official to have indicted, in 1969, a suspect in President John F. Kennedy’s murder.

Garrison began by exposing the contradictions in the Warren Report, which concluded that Lee Harvey Oswald was an unstable pro-Castro Marxist who acted alone in killing Kennedy. A Farewell to Justice reveals that Oswald, no Marxist, was in fact working with both the FBI and the CIA, as well as with U.S. Customs, and that the attempts to sabotage Garrison’s investigation reached the highest levels of the U.S. government. Garrison interviewed various individuals involved in the assassination, ranging from Clay Shaw and CIA contract employee David Ferrie to a Marine cohort of Oswald named Kerry Thornley, who at the very least was a Defense Intelligence Agency asset. Garrison’s suspects included CIA-sponsored soldiers of fortune enlisted in assassination attempts against Fidel Castro, an anti-Castro Cuban asset, and a young runner for the conspirators, interviewed here for the first time by the author.

Building upon Garrison’s effort, Mellen uncovers decisive new evidence and clearly establishes the intelligence agencies’ roles in both a president’s assassination and its cover-up, set in motion well before the actual events of November 22, 1963.

Editorial Review:

Their names are splashed all over the newspapers: Marion True, Robert Hecht, Giacomo Medici. The Medici Conspiracy tells the complete history behind the headlines. The story begins with a botched robbery and a police chase. Eight ancient vases are discovered in the swimming pool of a German-based art smuggler. More valuable than the recovery of the vases, however, is the discovery of the smuggler's card index detailing his deals and dealers. It reveals the existence of a web of tomb raiders who steal classical artifacts, and a network of dealers and smugglers who spirit them out of Italy and into the hands of wealthy collectors and museums, including Sothebys, the Getty Museum in L.A., the Museum of Fine Arts in Boston, and the Metropolitan Museum of Art.

Now with a new chapter on the Greek scandal and fallout, The Medici Conspiracy authoritatively exposes another shameful round in one of the oldest games in the world: theft, smuggling and duplicitous dealing, all in the name of art.

What a joke. Two wannabe authors make up some fiction based on John Craven's own wonderful ability to invent things in his head. There is no basis for any of this conjecture. The title is nuts. Who is the rogue?? Why does a tragic accident that takes down an sub and her brave crew get labeled a rogue?? Because why?? A fantasy?? Does anyone believe this 'sea story'???? A true sad waste of paper?? Not to mention very disrespectful of the professionals who went down with their ship.

Best, pb

Editorial Review:

March 7, 1968: Several hundred miles northwest of Hawaii, the nuclear-armed K-129 surfaces and then sinks; all of its crewmen and officers perish at sea. Who was commanding the rogue Russian sub? What was its target? How did it infiltrate American waters undetected? Navy veteran Kenneth Sewell, drawing from newly declassified documents and extensive confidential interviews, exposes the stunning truth behind an operation calculated to provoke war between the U.S. and China -- a nightmare scenario averted by only seconds. In full, authoritative detail, Red Star Rogue illuminates this history-shaping event -- and rings with chilling relevance in light of today's terrorist threat.

slow and predictable 3 out of 5 stars.
2 of 2 people found this review helpful.

One reviewer here says that this book ends up "putting Charles McCarry in the same literary league with John LeCarre, Alan Furst, Eric Ambler and Ken Follet." While I do enjoy a couple of those writers, or at least a few of those books, one thing that authors like LeCarre especially have in common with 'The Last Supper' is that the story is very slow. It uncoils like a leisurely afternoon. The prose truly reminded me of LeCarre and his intellectual spy thrillers. If you like LeCarre's books, I am sure that you will enjoy 'The Last Supper'. However, if you are like myself and find those books tedious and dated, you will find the same thing here.

I did not find the characters to be well fleshed out or more than thinly two dimensional. McCarry goes into great personal detail, evoking past events, but they do not make his characters any more involved with the reader.

The plot spans several decades, from WW1 to Vietnam and the cold war. The characters exist in a CIA type outfit. We follow the emergence of this government agency and how the people working there evolve.

Paul Christopher is the protagonist, a gifted young man who works as a spy and operator. He undergoes travails from losing his mom to having some tough episodes throughout his life. Once in the 'CIA' he fights evil and on and on.

I might be in the minority here. I read a lot. This is just not the sort of mystery/thriller that I usually enjoy. I can see how others would enjoy this story. I am not into sweeping narratives that cover fifty years. I do not agree with the majority of reviewers here in thinking that McCarry has a great gift of story telling.

Editorial Review:

Charles McCarry has been called the best American espionage writer who ever lived. Now, with the re-release of his classic Paul Christopher series, comes The Last Supper, a tour-de-force that traces the evolution of the OSS and the CIA from the aftermath of World War I through World War II, Vietnam, and the Cold War.

To Paul Christopher, the world of espionage had become a region of the mad, in which men and women lived without conviction and were compelled by a craving for conspiracy. But now, he has to find the “mole” in the Outfit and demand justice from enemies, past and present. As he follows the twisting path of this secret American intelligence group, he discovers a trail of betrayal and violence that leads backward to the horrors of the Nazi era and plunges forward beyond the Vietnam War’s labyrinth of lies.

Editorial Review:

In this expanded paperback edition of Hitchen's slow motion citizen's cardiac arrest of the Clinton presidency, our protagonist looks at Clinton's baleful influence on the 2000 election, Hillary Clinton's run for a New York Senate seat, and how the net of corruption in Democratic fundraising is cast far and wide. 'Clintonism' is not an idea, or a program; still less is it a principle. It represents what might be termed-were it not for its murk-the distilled essence of consensus politics. Unremarkable in its constituent elements, which are a mixture of opportunist statecraft, crony capitalism, 'divide and rule' identity politics, and populist manipulation, Clintonism has nonetheless raised these ordinary practices to the level of theory. It has succeeded, argues the author, because of a stealthy appeal to the waning and insecure forces of an American liberalism gone bad. Christopher Hitchens followed Governor Clinton through New Hampshire in 1992, and has remained an assiduous student of his methods ever since. In No One Left to Lie To, he profiles the rise and decline of some prominent Clintonoids, from George Stephanopoulos to the First Lady. He scrutinizes the debased new language in which the discourse of Clintonism has been couched, and proposes that, if successful, the Clinton machine will become the model of pseudo-democracy for the coming century.
