Kaplan/Princeton Review: I don't recommend wasting any time with either of these books. They are much too basic. If you want to study for a couple weeks and just get familiar with the test, then these are fine. However, you won't do your best if you rely simply on these general books.

In short, I recommend the following study method for the LSAT:

Introduction to the test: Look at the free stuff from LSAC

Logic Games: Read the book "Ace the LSAT Logic Games", by Get Prepped.

Logical Reasoning: read the book "LSAT Logical Reasoning Bible", by Power Score.
Notice that the conditional reasoning, formal logic, and parallel reasoning sections are probably the most helpful sections. However, these questions are by far the hardest on the logical reasoning section. I recommend saving them for last to make sure you get done in time, since they are the most time consuming. (Before I read these sections I incorrectly thought conditional and logical reasoning was far to easy to be worth studying, since I had an engineering background.)

Reading Comprehension: don't ready any books that tell you to highlight and underline stuff, you won't have time to finish the exam. Instead, read a bunch of novels to improve your reading skills if you were never much of a reader before. So ladies, read some romance novels, and guys well you know what to read.

Lastly, make sure to put down all study books the entire week before the test and simply do practice exams.

More to be desired- but best out there 4 out of 5 stars.

Cons:
1- There are many errors in this book. The most glaring of all is an advice box that directs you to online calculus review. However, the website doesn't exist. According to Kaplan's Academic Services it's a printing error. There are also answer key errors in the chapter reviews and the practice tests.
2- Math, Essay, and Organic chapters aren't thorough enough for the test
3- The book's tests cover less organic chemistry than the actual PCAT

Pros:
1-Best study guide I own (I have 4 books)
2-Gen. Chemistry and Biology sections are thorough
3-Very accurate reading comprehension practice

Despite lacking in the Math, Essay, and to a lesser extent the Organic Chemistry chapters, it is the best and most comprehensive book I have used (reason for the 4 star rating). It has 1 pre test, 1 practice final test, as well as chapters on verbal, reading comprehension, math, bio, chem, the essay, general test taking tips, and changes in the new pcat. Finally, each test prep chapter has review questions at the end. There are roughly 35 content review chapters.

This book is perfect for those who have a) not had a math class in a while or b) little confidence in their math skills. As one of the mathematically crippled myself, I felt I needed a brush up on my skills. This is a great entry-level book with wonderful step-by-step instructions, both of methodology and practice problems.

This is a "leg up" book, though. You definitely need to couple this book with more advanced practice to be successful on the GRE. Try the Barron's comprehensive study aid.

Excellent practice tests and vocabulary 5 out of 5 stars.

Obviously, this book can not be your only guide to the SAT;it only covers a third of it. But it does a very thorough job with the Critical Reading section. The sentence completion practice tests (4 tests per set, 3 different difficulty level sets) are very close to the real College Board ones. The reading comprehension pieces are decent; nothing amazing, but as good as close to the real SAT as you can find.

The most valuable part of this book (for the average person), is the comprehensive vocabulary list. It consists of 800 words (80 sets of 10 words). Being very familiar with the actual SAT, I can say that the words on the list are indeed very high-frequency SAT words. If you know every word on that list it would be hard to answer more than 2 sentence completion questions incorrectly on the real SAT. For the vocabulary list alone, the book is worth the buy.

For the longest time I believed this was the worst book ever. After reading A Portrait of the Artist as a Young Man, I now realize it is the second worst book ever written. In both stories, nothing happens that is worth mentioning. It's just that kind of book that is critically acclaimed for how well it is written. However, the story is poor. I wrote better stories when I was in first grade.

Basically, things happen in chronological order as they would in real life. However, they are not connected. It's true that in real life not everything is connected. However, if I wanted to experience real life, I wouldn't read it, I would live it. The point of a book should be to tell an interesting story. That is not what this book does.

For all the haters out there 5 out of 5 stars.

I read this book as required reading the the 8th grade and I never did stop loving it. My classmates loved it too but to be fair, a lot of them wouldn't reread it.

So when I came to Amazon, I was overjoyed that Flowers for Algernon received so many 5 stars. But at the same time, I was incensed that there were actually people who hated it. I know everyone's entitled to their opinions so I decided not to judge them till I understood why they hated the book.

Apparently, the biggest beef they had with the story was that it "didn't have enough action." WHAT THE HECK. This book is not meant to be an adventure story where the suddenly smart protagonist is going to become a superhero and beat up villans. It shows the raw emotions of Charlie and how the people around him are like. It shows the ordinary, mundane, every day life of a normal man, depsite his unusual circumstances. People, even if something big happened in your life, you'd eventually get used to or over it and spend your days doing the same things. That's what the story's like.

And another thing - the sexual confusion is natural. After becoming more intelligent, the protagonist is of course going to experience the emotions he didn't during puberty.

Also, many of the reviews seemed to be written by kids who just resented the fact that they had been required to read it. Who'd rather play video games or read "great" literature such as Breaking Dawn (which has way more sexual content, to no one's surprise).

There, rant over.

For the price, the Kaplan book provides great pre-test information and multiple practice tests, both in book and in an on-line format. Purchase price at Amazon was significantly less that if purchased from the local book stores. Shipping was fast, and more importantly my son has been using the guide. He has told me many test stragtries that he and I were both previously unaware of, all of which should aid his actual test scores, which is what is important. The guide suggest you take a practice test first, then proceed so you can actually see your improvement, which should aid in his confidence building and add to the overall actual test scores as well. Also, the book is written with teenagers in mind. By that I mean after a chapter or so the book tells the reader, great job, take a break. This is a great feature in that it both works with and motivates the student. As with any study guide, the key is will your son or daughter use it. Mine does, so this book gets an A from me, as does Amazon, for the price and quick delivery.

I purchased this book to study for the AFAST exam. All the sections in this book mirror the fomrat of the AFAST. However, their were some slight differences:

1) The pictures in the Instrument Comprehension portion of the practice exam are extremely dated in comparison to the actual test.
2) The actual AFAST helicopter knowledge questions seemed too easy in comparison to the ARCO study guide.
3) The cyclic orientation questions were easier on the AFAST.
4) The mechanical functions portion had several questions about boats and ships, which were not in the ARCO study guide.

All the personal questions and the complex movements were pretty much exactly the same as the AFAST. Making note cards for the complex movements is a good idea. I also purchased PRINCIPLES OF HELICOPTER FLIGHT to assist with my helicopter knowledge. The diagrams, explanations, and glossary words helped me out tremendously in that book.

Overall this ARCO study guide is great for the AFAST. I scored a 134 on the exam thanks to this book.
