Excellent introductory testbook on network analysis 4 out of 5 stars.

The book is "pricey" at $99.05 and that is why I rated it 4-stars instead of 5. I just started teaching a technical electronics course at ITT Technical Institute which uses this book as its main text. I was a little rusty on several topics when I realized that I was again becoming proficient as I was teaching the material with the aid of this book. The author treats each topic in a clear and concise manner. The examples he uses are relevant and an excellent choice for each topic. As a side note, most if not all electronic textbooks are full of distracting errors and this book seems to have kept them down to a minimum. I commend the author for this observance to detail. Also, he changed simulation programs from PSpice to Electronic Workbench. I can not figure out why when PSpice is sort of an "industry standard". Anyway, I have learned to use yet another simulation program. I have added this book to my special collection of technical references. J.W. Heckendorf.

This book presents general methods of circuit and network analysis by employing differential and integral calculus and transform methods with a strong emphasis on application. Chapter topics cover basic circuit laws; circuit analysis methods; capacitive and inductive transients and equivalent circuits; initial, final, and first-order circuits; LaPlace transforms; circuit analysis with LaPlace transforms; transfer functions; sinusoidal steady-state analysis; frequency response analysis and bode plots; waveform analysis; and Fourier analysis. For learners of advanced circuit analysis, network analysis, and linear systems.

An excellent, rigorous work 5 out of 5 stars.

This book provides very good foundations over almost all of the whole area of filter design. It should be stressed that this book is not a filter cookbook for a casual design - it is a very serious guide to the mathematics underlying filter design, starting with a discussion of the Laplace transform, and moving to passive filter design and analysis.

Budak enables the reader to acquire a very aquaintance of the limitations involved with network synthesis techniques - exhaustive discussion of issues such as sensitivity (tolerance to component inaccuracy) appear, with a section devoted to component non-ideality.

It should be noted that the book was originally published in the early seventies; perhaps the only thing missing from the text is a more contemporary discussion of design techniques applying to active high frequency circuits.

Twenty five years ago, video op-amps were not particularly thick on the ground, and this situation has changed a good deal for the better.

Another thing which would be very welcome would be a discussion in equal depth regarding the analysis and synthesis of circuits which consist of a mixture of distributed and lumped components.

All in all, a very complete and satisfying treatment of a broad subject.

Editorial Review:

The material in this comprehensive volume was selected to provide physical insight and thorough understanding of the complex-frequency domain and its application to circuits. Well-organized, self-contained chapters detail analysis and synthesis for passive as well as active networks, present and compare a variety of approximating functions, and emphasize the study of widely used second-order functions and their realizations. Multiple examples designed to facilitate learning and outline the necessary theoretical perspectives and physical concepts for an open-ended approach to physical circuit design are provided.

Stays with the topic. Builds it up well. 4 out of 5 stars.

This book, the staple of many electrical engineering undergraduates, does well in it's job of teaching you what you seek to learn- in this case, Signals and Systems. Most students in my college refer to this book as 'baap' or the Godfather! It is but natural that a book on so technical a subject must be, well, technical. However, the authors have done an excellent job in taking a relative newcomer to this subject and by the end of the book, providing enough knowledge to make one feel like they've learnt something. Although I must say that one has to know something of the subject to start here, because, unfortunately, there are a few jumps to difficult topics at a few places along the line. However, the theory given here is the tops. If one can gather all that is said here, then I'm pretty sure, you're on your way to do well in this subject. So, for those who wish to put in some effort, and learn the subject of Signals and Systems in, most probably, the deepest and most serious fashion, this book is for you. There are a few other books which you could refer to when you use this. Two I would mention are Oppenhiem, and Zoher Karu's: Signals and Systems Made Ridiculously Simple(yes, that's the name!). These books will help to fill up any gaps, and clear any doubts you might have.

Editorial Review:

Unifies the various approaches used to characterize the interaction of signals with systems. Stresses their commonality, and contrasts difference/differential equation models, convolution, and state variable formulations in presenting continuous- and discrete-time systems. Transform methods are also discussed as they relate to corresponding time-domain techniques. This edition expands discussion of applications of the theoretical material in physical problems, enhancing students' ability to relate this material to design activities. Material on deconvolution has also been added to the time-domain and transform-domain treatments of discrete-time systems. Contains many examples and equations.

It is a must for RF and Microwave designer 5 out of 5 stars.

This book entails great detail and good treatment of s parameters. It goes into depth analysis of how S parameters derived. This is the only book to my knowledge dedicated to inly S parameters.

Editorial Review:

Network scattering parameters are powerful tools for the analysis and design of high frequency and microwave networks. A comprehensive review of network scattering parameters is given with detailed discussion of their application in the analysis of stability, input and output reflection coefficients, power gains and other network parameters. Generalised scattering parameters are introduced in later chapters. The aim of this book is to give a thorough working knowledge of scattering parameters and their application in circuit analysis and design. To this end numerous illustrative examples are given in each chapter. The book should prove to be a useful companion to practicing engineers, as well as, to students and teachers in the field of HF, microwaves and optics.
