Hard to read..... 2 out of 5 stars.
1 of 1 people found this review helpful.

First off I love Judge Judy, I think she is brilliant, funny, and right on the money with her quips and viewpoints.....secondly, i found this book absolutely tortuous to read, and gave up after about 70 pages of it, for some reason I just could not go on with it anymore....Judy's ideas on how to solve what ails our society are insightful, and worth taking note of. However, the book is so poorly written, i couldn't continue to finish it. maybe its just the way it was put togther, but this was not at all what i was hoping it would be.

Editorial Review:

"Can we get some reality in here?" asks Judy Sheindlin, former supervising judge for Manhattan Family Court. For twenty-four years she has laid down the law as she understands it:

  • If you want to eat, you have to work.

  • If you have children, you'd better support them.

  • If you break the law, you have to pay.

  • If you tap the public purse, you'd better be accountable.

Now she abandons all judicial restraint in a scathing critique of the system--filled with realistic hard-nosed alternatives to our bloated welfare bureaucracy and our soft-on-crime laws.

great book 5 out of 5 stars.
2 of 3 people found this review helpful.

This book is very helpful, especially because my professor recommended it. The explanations are clear and useful.

A great help! 5 out of 5 stars.
2 of 2 people found this review helpful.

A really great book, it finally brought some clarity to evidence. But be prepared to spend some time reading this book, as it has fairly in-depth coverage. Even so, I found it a very valuable study tool.

What is does, it does well 4 out of 5 stars.
0 of 0 people found this review helpful.

There is not much to this book, which is probably caused by the fact that there is not much to an intro evidence course. If you are taking an Evidence course based on the Federal Rules, I am not sure that this book is a whole better than getting the Federal Rules and reading its comments. Then why I am rating this book at 4 stars, rather than lower? Because what this E&E book does, it does well.

excellent study aid 5 out of 5 stars.

Without a doubt this is an essential key to success in civil procedure. I basically outlined this book along with my class notes and got an A on the exam. Very, very, very good aid.

Excellent guide 5 out of 5 stars.

Glannon clearly and succinctly provides examples of possible multiple choice questions that could be found on exams. Unlike a lot of other guides I've seen...it's not confusing and it's not a chore to read through the book.

learning with MCQ's 5 out of 5 stars.

Glannon's guide is God send. if you purchase Glannon's E&E, you must also purchase his guide to learning Civ Pro through MCQ's. It is great!

Love it!

My professor REQUIRED this book 5 out of 5 stars.

This book is very good at helping students grasp boring or dull concepts. I'm sorry but Civ Pro can be just that at times. This coupled with E and E make for excellent study help.

Great for getting the fine points. 4 out of 5 stars.
2 of 2 people found this review helpful.

The Glannon books (especially the Glannon Guide q&a book) are more comprehensive, but when it comes down to the last week or two and you want to be sure you haven't missed the fine points hiding in the FRCP (and there are a lot of those) - this book is great.

Great for Exam Prep, Too Broad for Class 4 out of 5 stars.
1 of 1 people found this review helpful.

Each chapter has a useful short review and checklist. The book was a great help near the end of term, when broad checklists became more important than minutiae. I'd recommend getting this along with a more classic commercial outline, like Clermont Black Letter.

Editorial Review:

This study aid features an innovative method of content organization. It uses a checklist format to lead students through questions they need to ask to fully evaluate the legal problem they are trying to solve. It also synthesizes the material in a way that most students are unable to do on their own, and assembles the different issues, presenting a clear guide to procedural analysis that students can draw upon when writing their exams. Other study aids provide sample problems, but none offer the systematic approach to problem solving found in this book.

Ok, but No Freer 1 out of 5 stars.
3 of 6 people found this review helpful.

E&E is a great series. I've found many of the books helpful in supplementing law school reading that can be at times difficult to synthesize. However, Freer's supplement on civil procedure is unbeatable.

Law school is about knowing the rule and applying the facts. E&E is great at helping you to know the rule. However, it doesn't help you figure out how to apply the facts, especially in a way pertinent to law school exams. Freer's book is full of examples and frameworks that assure success on your CivPro exam. This is especially true of the frameworks he lays out for analyzing Personal Jurisdiction problems and Erie.

Buy Freer and you'll be happier going into your final.

Editorial Review:

Students know they can count on expert study guide author Joseph W. Glannon to clarify even the most complicated topics. Unquestionable effectiveness earned his civil procedure guides their bestselling status. Extensively revised and updated for its Fifth Edition, "Civil Procedure: Examples & Explanations" continues to introduce the principles of civil procedure and illustrate how they apply in typical cases.

The Making of America 5 out of 5 stars.
9 of 10 people found this review helpful.

A remarkably clear and lucid explanation of how the Constitution was formed. The author's sensitivity to historical context is exceptional. The book is written in a breezy high-school style that makes it accessible to essentially any reader. The author quotes extensively from the writings of the Founders so that the reader doesn't have to take his word for anything. This book is a "must-read" for anyone who wants to be an informed and responsible citizen of our republic.

The Makeing of America: The Substance and Meaning of the Constitution 5 out of 5 stars.

The Making of America is a must read for every American. This book gives an detailed account of what the Founding Fathers' intended our form of government to be, a Republic, not a Democracy. If you want to be a patriot that is not blown about by every wind of political sophistry, read this book! Did you realize that the Founding Fathers' had a different political spectrum that we use today? Read this book to find out more.

A Must Read 5 out of 5 stars.

This book is a must read for every American. This should be taught in our school system. Everyone should know the Constitution so they can see for themselves what the government is taking away. Liberty is for all not just a few.

More of a Test Prep 4 out of 5 stars.
3 of 5 people found this review helpful.

This book, and in fact, this entire series serves as a very useful tool for any law student--it is an excellent test prep.

If you're struggling in a particular subject, it DOES help some--but I'd really look to the nutshell series or some other source if you're looking for an in-depth analysis.

CrunchTime helped boost my grade! 5 out of 5 stars.

I bought these 2 weeks before finals and found them helpful specifically for the joinder and discovery rules. I do wish they would come out with a set that included both Civ Pro I and II. These were great for last minute studying.

Editorial Review:

CrunchTime provides a comprehensive topic breakdown and critical information review all in one tool! The application flow charts can be used all semester long, but the capsule summaries are ideal for exam preparation. Each title offers capsule summaries of major points of law and critical issues, exam tips for identifying common traps and pitfalls, sample exam and essay questions with model answers, and recommended approaches for crafting essays that will get winning grades.

Good book for mineral owners as well as students 4 out of 5 stars.
15 of 16 people found this review helpful.

The third edition of this book was very helpful, and also included more recent case law cites than the second edition. I would assume this it true with the fourth as well (and there have been quite a few post 1995 court cases affecting royalty payments among other things). John Lowe is a well-respected professor of oil and gas law and has written many papers as well as several books on the subject.I find his writing style easy to understand, even for a layman like myself.I also found it to be much more than a "nutshell" approach in that the explanations of complicated ideas are fairly complete in most cases. He even touches on the structure and content of oil and gas sales contracts near the end of the book, which I found helpful as well.

Editorial Review:

Reliable source on oil and gas law. This authoritative coverage focuses on the legal rules that govern the development of privately owned mineral rights, which often also apply to governmentally owned resources. Text covers topics such as the nature, protection, and conveying of oil and gas rights, leasing, and taxation.

Provides a complete environment for the Federalist Papers 5 out of 5 stars.
30 of 35 people found this review helpful.

Study of the Federalist Papers, of course included in this two volume series, is a conduit for understanding the American ethic. When the Federalist Papers are viewed as included in this chronological deliberation between the Federalists and Antifederalists, they become even more profound than the enormous depth they can achieve when read alone. The concerns of Brutus and Agrippa are answered, the repititive call for a 'Bill of Rights' revealed. Madison wrote to Jefferson in 1825 defining the Federalist Papers as 'may fairly enough be regarded as the most authentic exposition of the text of the federal constituion, as understood by the Body which prepared & the authority which accepted it.' The enormous insight gained from tracking the arguments and concerns of the proposed Constituion , and the responses of the Federalist cannot be easily estimated, yet the result is a much more informed conscience of the American experience. Madison in the same letter mentioned above stated that Federalist Essays did not foresee all the misconstructions which to that date had occured, nor prevent some it did foresee. For the concerned and deliberate citizen of today many of these issues remain, issues such as Federalism are current topics and all too often the opinions of the few become the conscience of the many, examining these volume will do much to alleviate this vexing condition. More alarming is the realization that many of the fears of the Antifederalists have become a reality in todays polity. An excellent and comprehensive collection thank you Bernard Bailyn.

Editorial Review:

"The Debate on the Constitution" charts the course of the bloodless revolution that created the government of the United States and the world's oldest working national charter. In speeches, newspaper articles, pamphlets, and letters, this unique collection captures firsthand the energy and eloquence of the stormy ratification struggle. Franklin, Madison, Jefferson, Washington, Patrick Henry, and many less well known voices speak with passion and articulateness about issues of personal liberty and public order that continue to resonate in today's headlines. Along with a detailed chronology and notes, each volume also includes the full texts of the Declaration in Independence, Articles of Confederation, and Constitution.
