My son is an only child who recently started day care. This book has really helped to teach him how to behave with the other children at daycare.

Good book! 5 out of 5 stars.

My daughter's daycare reads these books to her, so I bought one for home. She loves it! I think the book teaches good lessons in a fun way.

My grandson loves the entire series of the How Do Dinosaur by Jane Yolen . We read them everyday.

Fun story & teaches too! 5 out of 5 stars.
1 of 1 people found this review helpful.

This is a great addition to the series. It takes kids through what not to do and then teaches them in the How Do Dinosaurs sing song story about what to do to play well with friends.

Editorial Review:

What if a dinosaur's friends come to play? Does he mope, does he pout if he can't get his way? Does he hide all his dump trucks, refusing to share? Does he throw his friends' coloring books up in the air? Time and time again, children are told to "play nice." This brilliantly illustrated board book is packed with rhymes that will teach children how. Mark Teague's laugh-aloud illustrations, along with Jane Yolen's playful text, will show children that "playing nice" can be easy and fun. Perfect for parents to read aloud with their children, this book is as humorous as it is instructive.

One of the best books ever for potty time (and for today's politics) 5 out of 5 stars.
2 of 8 people found this review helpful.

Although ostensibly written to teach small children a basic lifeskill, this is also a fine book to teach Republicans some basic conservative principles.

It begins by explaining how, when Michael's diaper is wet or dirty, "he tells mommy or daddy. Then they put a new diaper on, and Michael is clean and dry again." Now, think Presidential and how voters will replace "Diaper George" with either Barack or John.

After Michael's parents bring home a potty, George (I mean Michael) does the obvious; he sits on it, fully clothed. Then he sits his Teddy Bear on it, 'cause he likes Teddy (Roosevelt). Sounds like Michael (I mean George) needs some on-the-potty (I mean on-the-job) training ... or at least to listen to his Daddy.

The book is a beautiful, sensitive and helpful guide to training a young child in one of the basics of life. It's written in language simple and clear enough for any Republican (I mean parent) to understand in teaching the basics of what's important.

It took Michael (George) some time. "Michael sat and sat. This time something happened. Mommy and Daddy and Michael looked in the potty. They saw pee and poop." Sounds like what prosecutors saw in the Abramoff lobbying scandal, doesn't it? Of course, cleaning up pee and poop is a lot easier than cleaning up Washington.

Consider the following sequence: "One day Michael forgot to use his potty. His pants got wet. The floor got wet, too." During Hurricane Katrina a lot of pants and floors got wet. Remember, "Brownie, you're doing a heck of a job"?

Please, don't let the political similarities deter you from buying this book. It deserves the high ratings others give it. What's more, when your child is properly potty trained, pass it along to some Republican to help them start over again from the basics.

They may need it more than your child. Just look at the mess they've made. Don't you wish someone had read it to George when it was published in 2000?

Editorial Review:

"What a big boy you are!"

Potty training can be fun. With warmth and sensitivity, Joanna Cole and Maxie Chambliss guide young boys though the challenges and rewards potty training—from the first steps to the joy of graduating to big boy underpants! A helpful "Note to parents" is included.

Richard Scarry's Please and Thank You Book (Pictureback(R))
I originally bought this book for my son and now I'm buying it for my grand son. It is an excellent book, kids love it and it teaches good values. All the Richard Scarry books are excellent! They hold the child's attention and they learn without realizing it. I always enjoyed them as well, they are fun for the adult to read to their children.

A classic in our family! 5 out of 5 stars.

All four of my children had this book read to them many, many times when they were young, and I can attest to the fact that it all sunk in! In fact, now in their 20's, they still quote this book. I'm purchasing another today, for my second grandchild. I'm so glad it's still available! Great book! It gives really cute, friendly examples of the benefits of manners and helping others.

Richard Scarry's Please and Thank-You Book 5 out of 5 stars.

This book represents a childhood favorite of both my children. It is no longer available in book stores, so I was delighted to find used copies available so that I can buy it for my new grandson. So far I have been telling him the stories just from memory, but the original is priceless. We especially adore the "Pig Will, Pig Won't" story which teaches kids to have a positive attitude. The Pig Won't character is a wonderful example of what NOT to be, and is also great fun to imitate while reading the story.

Who will buy this book? "I will," says Pig Will.

"I won't," says Pig Won't.

So Pig Won't will miss all the fun.

The book was exactly in the condition that I expected and shipped in a prompt fashion.

Good book to explain children about frienship 5 out of 5 stars.
2 of 2 people found this review helpful.

My son has been being bully at school, he is a very innocent child, he's in the second grade. Since he wants to be like within the circle of children in his classroom, he will do things that can be annoying to others, meanwhile he's doing these things to be cool and be liked. I highly recommend this book, is very age appropiate, he reads the book at all times, and he can also distinguish who is being nice in school and who is not. He has also stopped doing being annoying while thinking he was being COOL.

Sarcasm not good with young kids 3 out of 5 stars.

The book was OK but it was written in a sarcastic way which may not always get through to younger kids (age 5 in my case).

How to Lose All Your Friends 1 out of 5 stars.
0 of 3 people found this review helpful.

While I "get" that the book portrays the opposite of what you would want for your children, I didn't like the approach as it only discusses how to lose your friends and not how to keep them. I do not recommend this book.

Great for Aspies! 5 out of 5 stars.

If you're child has a high-functioning autism or Asperger's I highly recommend this book to help him understand what NOT to do with his peers. It's funny and very tongue-in-cheek.

Editorial Review:

"Don't jump on your bed!" "Don't bite your nails!" Parents sure seem to have a lot of rules. To make matters worse, the reasons behind the rules often don't seem to make any sense. Could there be other, secret purposes behind these perpetual parental pleadings? Such is the premise of David Wisniewski's The Secret Knowledge of Grown-Ups, which has the look of a top secret, classified folder. A radical departure from his Caldecott Award-winning Golem, this book is pure wackiness. Inside, kids will find the "real" reasons behind their parents' rules. And, as Wisniewski reveals, grown-ups have more information than they let on--information pertaining to national security--that makes these admonitions essential.

Wisniewski's illustrations are bright paper cut-outs, featuring crumpled, torn "Security Clearance Required" documents that look freshly pilfered from a government dumpster. Although the conspiracy theories may be over a few young readers' heads, many kids will love the sense of getting an inside scoop. Suspicious youngsters will be delighted to find out, for example, that when parents tell you to eat your vegetables, it's actually to prevent vegetables from regaining world domination. Parents may roll their eyes and say, "Nonsense," but then again, they would say that, wouldn't they? (Ages 6 to 10)

There is a great lesson here! 5 out of 5 stars.
1 of 1 people found this review helpful.

I love Eric Carle! His illustrations are wonderful and there is always a math or science lesson included in the text. This one helps children learn to tell time and explains how ladybugs are helpful to plants. I was shocked when I read some of the reviews that criticized this book. I am the mother of five and I know that you can't protect them forever. Don't get upset about the behavior of the ladybug; use it as an example. Your children WILL encounter bullies like this ladybug. Explain this to them along with how you think they should handle the situation. It is also an example of how you do NOT want your own children to behave, even if they might be feeling grouchy. We all have bad days, but being mean to others is not the way to handle those days. In the end, the ladybug also realizes this. In my opinion, allowing them to enjoy this book will help your children, not hurt them.

Say It's Not So! The Berenstain Bears Forget Their Manners? 5 out of 5 stars.
8 of 10 people found this review helpful.

In my opinion, this is THE BEST Berenstain Bears book we have read. It not only does a very good job describing what good manners are, but also why not having them is bad.

The book begins with the cubs displaying some downright familiar examples of bad manners. There is a lack of 'please' and 'thank you' and 'I'm sorry' which leads to the usual sort of familial squabbling. Seeing what's going on, Mama and Papa make a gentle attempt to push the family back on track; but nothing works until Mama creates a chart with a penalty scheme to help everyone 'remember' what appropriate behavior is.

The reaction to the chart is not all that surprising. Brother and Sister Bear think the penalties are unfair. Which is when they decide to undermine Mama's efforts by being so 'super polite' that she will get "fed up and call the whole thing off!" [Ha!] Of course, that doesn't work as we all know that Good Manners lead to harmony and happiness and that you can't really overdo it.

Five Stars. In my opinion this is as good as the Berenstain Bears books get. The message of Good Manners is important, the examples good, and the story is told at just the right level. Okay Read-Aloud.

Editorial Review:

"When Mama Bear's efforts to improve her family's manners are unsuccessful, she devises a Politeness Plan--a chart listing a chore as a penalty for each act of rudeness. Basic etiquette is presented in a practical way. Berenstain illustrations add humor and understanding."--School Library Journal.

It was written simply and clearly and the age range given is perfect. A great resource for kids who are just diagnosed.

Editorial Review:

David, the out-of-control monster-child from David Shannon's Caldecott Honor Book No, David! is back... and ready to disrupt the class. Shannon remembers the word "no" all too clearly from his childhood, and, as he says in his introduction, "It seems that kids haven't changed much over the years, and neither have school rules, some of which date back even further than the invention of sneakers." In David Goes to School, young David shows up late to class, goes wacko at the blackboard, chews gum in class, yells answers out of turn, pulls pigtails, stares out the window, cuts in line, has a food fight ("I don't care who started it!" says the teacher), lingers at recess, and draws on his desk. Colorful, hilarious, childlike illustrations examine our strangely appealing demon-boy at eye level, which is especially disgusting as David stretches an enormous mass of bubble gum from his pointy-toothed maw. After an intense day of exuberant misbehaving, however, he stays after school and washes all the desks until they sparkle. The day ends with a gold star and a pat on the head... something that any child (or adult) would find satisfying. (Click to see a sample spread. Copyright 1999 by David Shannon. Children's literature is a great way to expose children to the issue of bullying. They're entertained, they understand it,and realize they are not alone. A great read for children ages 7-10. I also recommend another book that every parent should read so that they learn how to support and protect children from this phenonemen: Bully-Proofing Children: A Practical, Hands-On Guide to Stop Bullying

Another good book by Trudy Ludwig. Children and adults can learn important tips from her books to use both at your children's school and at your jobs or in your community. You've heard stick and stones may break my bones but names will never hurt me? Not true. Her school tours are even better.

important message for kids 5 out of 5 stars.

I am a school social worker and am frequently doing character education lessons with students (grades 1-3). I have often spoken with my students about the importance of not just apologizing, but of actually MEANING it and learning from the experience (not just trying to "get off the hook"). It was great to actually find a book that tells this message! Kids remember the stories so much better than what I just tell them - I look forward to using this book.
