This book, without a doubt, helped my family more than any other understand our BLPD inlaw,it's easy to read and you know the author has dealt with this disorder and knows what she's talking about.

The book was well laid out, with good examples. I was able to put together a coherent picture of what I was experiencing, and began to put my experiences in a better perspective. Although not everything in the book pertained to my relationship, it certainly illuminated many aspects of what I was feeling and what I ultimately gained the courage to do.

Editorial Review:

The verdict is in: those simple carbs we've been living on are killing us. For good health, we've got to get our blood sugar under control and stop the incessant cravings. Or so says Dr. Arthur Agatston, author of The South Beach Diet. The first half of the book details the science behind the diet. Most of the explanations revolve around why things you thought were healthy—-orange juice, wheat toast, carrots—-are actually evil. To avoid blood sugar surges, Agatston created a modified carbohydrate plan, recommending plenty of high-fiber foods, lean proteins, and healthy fats, while cutting bread, rice, pastas, and fruits. Major differences from other diets include a lack of concern over portion size and a serious indifference to exercise. Feeling full while on a diet is a beautiful thing, but it seems odd that a cardiologist buries his exercise recommendations in a solitary sentence.

The last half of the book covers his three-stage plan; daily diets are mixed with recipes, some of which are from South Beach restaurant chefs. The most restrictive period lasts just two weeks, enough time to stabilize your urges and lose a few pounds; stage two adds fruits and a handful of other carbs, while stage three is meant to last the remainder of your life, with occasional lapses for white bread or birthday cake. While the diet is sound, the book could be better organized. The first half mixes scientific study with anecdote in a seemingly random way, while the mix of meal plans and recipes can be confusing. Still, the recipes are varied and tasty, and you'll never feel deprived, unless you currently happen to live by bread alone. --Jill Lightner

A great reference to hold onto 5 out of 5 stars.

Anyone who is concidering a future in Psychology must pick up a copy of this book. As many books are there for General Psychology this one has got to be one the best written and descriptive books I have ever read. The chapters are carefully broken up into consecutive topics that start with the history and basic terms of Psychology and lead you to client-based pscyhoanaylsis information.

This is must have for all Psychology majors.

Psychology at its finest 5 out of 5 stars.

This is an excellent source of information for an intro into Psychology. Text is very informative, with most of it coming from the author's personal experiences. Drs. Don and Sandra Hockenbury keep you interested throughout the text with expert writing. Recommened text for beginning Psychology students.

Useful Introduction 4 out of 5 stars.

I own several Psychology texts and this one is a useful introduction to the subject. The chapters are well organized and carefully laid out, and the information is presented in an easily absorbed format. Few people will probably find this a gripping read outside of the university, but for a textbook, it's a fine introduction to a difficult study.

Ratey, M.D., embarks upon a fascinating and entertaining journey through the mind-body connection, presenting startling research to prove that exercise is truly our best defense against everything from depression to ADD to addiction to aggression to menopause to Alzheimer's. It will change forever the way you think about your morning run---or, for that matter, simply the way you think

Editorial Review:

When Elliot Aronson, Timothy Wilson, and Robin Akert started with the first edition of Social Psychology their overriding goal was simple but ambitious: capture the excitement of social psychology in a textbook. Now in its sixth edition, the authors have discovered - through many kind letters and e-mail from professors and students - that they have succeeded in making their book an enjoyable, fascinating story, not just a dry report of facts and figures. In their work they have found that social psychology comes alive for students when they understand the whole context of the field: how theories inspire research, why research is performed as it is, how further research triggers yet new avenues of study. The authors have reached students by conveying their own fascination with the research process in a down-to-earth, meaningful way, yet have done so without sacrificing a firm foundation on which to build the reader's understanding. Here, in its sixth edition, the authors present a rigorous, scientific approach to social psychology in a manner that continues to build on the text's legacy of engaging and fascinating students.

Finally a cookbook of normal food for vegans! 5 out of 5 stars.
3 of 4 people found this review helpful.

Does lasagna, potatoes au gratin, or a brownie sound good? I thought so!

This cookbook has includes a wide range of foods that are fantastic every-day choices. Another plus is that most of the ingredients are repetitive so you can stock your pantry and have some pretty versitile menu options.

Below are the sections:
Breakfasts
PMS Snacks
Appetizers
Soups & Stews
Salads
Sandwiches
International
Italian
Down Home Cookin'
Staple Meals
Dressings, Sauces & Substitutes
Happy Endings (Desserts)

A particularly helpful part of this book is the glossary which defines/describes most of the foods/ingredients that would not be commonly known.

This book has less raunchy language than the other Skinny Bitch book and I think they got it right with this one.

Highly recommend!

Very good and clear book 5 out of 5 stars.
3 of 3 people found this review helpful.

This was one of my favorite classes in college and this book was very supplemental to my professor's lectures. The text was very clear and there were really good examples to help get the point across. It was nice because it was very concise and to the point.

Abnormal Psychology & Video Presentations in Abnormal 4 out of 5 stars.
0 of 0 people found this review helpful.

A good for the understanding of abnormal psychology. This is highly recommended for the undergraduate study. The book is rather dry but does contain valuable information.

Editorial Review:

An award-winning instructor and practicing therapist, Ronald Comer brings an unmatched range of experience and depth of understanding to the teaching of abnormal psychology. It is that firsthand knowledge of the concerns of students, the complexities of the disorders, and the real struggles of people with psychological disorders that makes Comer’s text, Abnormal Psychology, so compelling.

This Sixth Edition’s new content and features, coupled with new study and teaching tools, all serve to keep the book’s portrait of contemporary abnormal psychology as fresh and insightful as ever.

Don't get misled by the cover. This book is for girls at any age. . . Really.. As we grow older, people assume we know things that we are not supposed to know. For instance, how to keep and take good care of our emotions and feelings.. This is the book that will get you started..

Good book for Tweens 5 out of 5 stars.

I thought this would be a more helpful book than the APA Publication Manual, but I was wrong. This small volume does not cover enough items that I need to write a graduate level paper. I suggest purchasing only the Publication Manual.

APA guidlines review 4 out of 5 stars.
2 of 2 people found this review helpful.

good reference for research papers, only wished it had better examples easier to locate instead of having to read every chapter to search for format.

Editorial Review:

The Concise Rules of APA Style will NOT be a replacement book for the Publication Manual, 5e. Rather, it will be a "true" companion product. Concise Rules will be an easy, look-up reference guide for writers and students that use the Publication Manual, 5e. It will be smaller in size and not include a lot of the information that is found in our top selling, Publication Manual, 5e product. The Concise Rules of APA Style will solely focus on the rules of APA Style. Students and writers will want to have both titles available on their shelf for understanding the rules to APA Style and writing effectively.
