Editorial Review:

Through his intelligent, appealing integration of Eastern philosophy and practical advice, Laurence G. Boldt has helped thousands of readers find personal satisfaction in their work and personal lives. Now he applies these principles to the subject of abundance: How do we achieve material wealth without sacrificing our souls? In The Tao of Abundance, Boldt applies ancient wisdom to modern times, presenting eight guiding principles from Taoist philosophy geared to help readers make practical life changes that will bring them a truer and deeper sense of abundance. Boldt encourages readers to strike a balance between material and spiritual wealth -- not to favor one over the other -- and argues that increased material wealth comes as a natural byproduct of psychological fulfillment. With exercises designed to help readers find their own balance between societal demands and their own deepest desires, this helpful, inspiring book offers the chance to experience a new feeling of abundance in all aspects of life.

Best Qigong book in English Language 5 out of 5 stars.
5 of 7 people found this review helpful.

I train with Master Wen-Ching Wu and i have trained a little with Grandmaster Liang, and I have not been able to find ANY books that come close to surpassing the ones that they have written. Together they have an incredibly vast knowledge of martial arts and Qigong and share it quite willingly in their fantastic books and teachings.

An invaluable book, I even take it on vacation. 5 out of 5 stars.

I bought this book about 4 or 5 years ago and it has become invaluable to me. The book starts with an overview of the principles of Chinese medical philosophy and then goes on with several sections describing the benefits of various foods and spices.

This book is very helpful for treating everyday minor ailments when you cannot, or don't want to, take medications. One of the first cures I tried was eating an apple to stop a dry cough, and it worked wonders!

Since travelling can through your body off its natural rythems, its a great book to travel with. It helps eat to prevent or cure those ailments of travel.

If you want to help your body heal itself, this is the book for you.

Editorial Review:

This book presents the principles of Chinese nutrition, including the energies and therapeutic properties of foods, methods of preparation, body type, season, and geographical location. Harmony and balance, the fundamental principles of universal existence, are also the basis of a healthy diet. The roots of Chinese knowledge about nutrition are at least 6,000 years old and produce time-tested results in terms of general health and longevity.

Lends a vision of what is worth waiting for... 5 out of 5 stars.

Each time I think it's time I settled for something less than fulfilling in life I sit down and read through this book. It calms my soul. It realigns my senses to what it is I'm truly seeking in life and in a partner. I have given this as a wedding gift to those who I think have the mind and soul for such small wisdom as this. I would recommend this book to anyone who seeks to be complete before entering into a relationship or who seeks understanding of why their past relationship failed. It has helped me to keep clarity of mind.

Editorial Review:

Following the successful debut of the Parent's Tao Te Ching--which Hugh Prather praised as "pure gold"--William Martin now reinterprets the Tao for couples. "The love relationship between two people can be the most rewarding and enlightening adventure possible," Martin writes, and he imparts the Tao's spirited, sage advice for everyone on that adventure. "Not since The Tao of Pooh has Taoist wisdom transmogrified into something so practical, gentle, and good."--from the foreword by Dan Millman, author of Way of the Peaceful Warrior

Editorial Review:

Used by its readers as an oracle, this book, based on the terminology used in the classic Wilhelm/Baynes translation, puts the I Ching into modern language. This allows its wisdom to be applied to the situations of everyday life. Decoded are words such as "the superior man," the "inferior man," "the inferiors," and the "faithful followers," which refer respectively to the true self, the ego, the bodily self, and aspects of character such as patience and perseverance. Expressions such as "crossing the great water," and "seeing the great man," are seen to mean getting past the danger of giving up on oneself, and remembering the potential for good in every person. Understanding such words and phrases occurs in the context of the entire wisdom of the I Ching which counsels those who consult it to follow their innermost feelings, as these bring one into harmony with the ever-loving Cosmos and its protective powers. Judging by the more than 4000 letters written by its readers, this book has been used by adults from all occupations and beliefs as a self-help spiritual guide and educator of the truths of life.

Editorial Review:

A guide to the advanced practice of Inner Alchemy, which brings the physical body into balance with the energy body

• Presents the second level of Inner Alchemy practices that use the eight forces of the pakua (bagwa) to collect, gather, and condense chi in the body

• Explains how to balance negative emotional energy with positive energy to detoxify, nourish, and integrate the physical and the energy body with the forces of nature

• Shows how to collect and channel the greater energies of the stars and planets to create unity between what is above and below

Cosmic Fusion is an advanced level of Inner Alchemy that teaches how to bring the physical body into balance with the energy body--a necessary prerequisite for the formation of the universal body, the pearl of compassion that is one with Original Creation and the Universal Tao. Cosmic Fusion works with the expression of the eight pakua (bagwa) of Chinese cosmology, through which all creation is divided and given form, nature, and definition.

Cosmic Fusion exercises establish the spiritual body firmly in the lower abdomen, where chi energy is gathered and distributed to all parts of the body--and into all creation. The fully illustrated exercises in this book also show how to collect and channel the greater energies of the stars and planets. By “fusing” all these different energies together, a harmonious whole is created, a unity of what is above and below. As heavenly and earthly forces are brought into balance, the life perfectly suited to the practitioner manifests, allowing the spirit body to prepare to move into worlds beyond--and back.

Taoist meditation practices for increasing and maintaining mental awareness, memory, and clarity

• Details techniques to increase the level of chi energy in the brain

• Explains how to synchronize the left and right brain by activating the body’s energetic potentials

• Shows that by emptying the mind there is more energy to heal the body

Wisdom Chi Kung teaches practitioners how to revitalize the brain: to repair function, increase memory, and expand capacity. Every day we use up so much of our brain’s capacity to function that we have very little left at the end of the day. By thinking or worrying too much, the brain can use up to 80 percent of the body’s entire energy reserve. Learning to stop the brain, to empty the mind from the ceaseless chatter of the “monkey mind,” and then recharge it with chi energy can increase our mental capacity, focus, and clarity.

Using the Inner Smile meditation technique, practitioners learn how to recharge chi energy for the brain in a form that is most useful. Practitioners smile and empty the mind into the lower tan tien and the organs. The organs then transform this chi energy. When the mind is empty, the energy transformed by the organs is sent back to the brain to revitalize it. This process synchronizes the left and right brain by activating and tapping in to the body’s energetic potentials. As the mind continues to empty, receive, and also enhance the transformed chi energy, it is able to open itself to connect with universal chi energies and fill the body with enhanced life force.

Editorial Review:

An ancient Taoist system for detoxifying and rejuvenating the internal organs

• Presents techniques to clear blockages in the body’s energy flow

• Includes illustrated exercises to relieve common ailments, revitalize the organs, and enable readers to take charge of their own health and well-being

• Focuses on the navel center, where negative emotions, stress, and illness accumulate

The techniques of Chi Nei Tsang evolved in Asia during an era when few physicians were available and people had to know how to heal themselves. Many people today have symptoms that modern medicine is not able to cure because a physical source for the problem is not easily found. The energies of negative emotions, stress, and tension--all common in modern life--and the weight of past illness accumulate in the abdominal center, causing energy blockages and congestion. When this occurs, all vital functions stagnate and myriad problems arise. By practicing the techniques of Chi Nei Tsang, this stagnation is removed and the vital organs surrounding the navel center are detoxified and rejuvenated.

Master Chia teaches readers how to avoid absorbing negative energies from others and take full charge of their health through the self-healing techniques of Chi Nei Tsang. He offers fully illustrated exercises that show how to detoxify the internal organs and clear the energy (chi) channels throughout the body. He also presents methods for balancing emotions, managing stress, and observing the body in order to recognize, ameliorate, and prevent maladies before they become a problem.

Delightful and Fascinating Novel 5 out of 5 stars.
11 of 12 people found this review helpful.

Written by an unknown author, Seven Taoist Masters is the story of six men and one woman who overcome tremendous hardships on the journey to self-mastery. These characters and their teacher, Want Ch'ung-yang , are all historical figures who lived in the Southern Sung and Yuan dynasties.

The novel brings to life the essentials of Taoist philosophy and practice, both through the instruction offered by Wang - on topics such as cultivation of mind and body, meditation techniques, and overcoming the four obstacles of anger, greed, lust, and drunkenness - and through the experience of characters.

While all road eventually lead to the experience of the Tao, each individual's path is unique, as is the adventure of each master in this book.

Editorial Review:

History and legend are interwoven in this folk novel that both entertains and instructs. Written by an unknown author, Seven Taoist Masters is the story of six men and one woman who overcome tremendous hardships on the journey to self-mastery. These characters and their teacher, Wang Ch'ung-yang, are all historical figures who lived in the Southern Sung (1127–1279) and Yuan (1271–1368) dynasties. Wang is regarded as the greatest patriarch of the Complete Reality school, a highly purified branch of Taoism having a strong affinity with Zen Buddhism. The novel brings to life the essentials of Taoist philosophy and practice, both through the instructions offered by Wang—on topics such as the cultivation of mind and body, meditation techniques, and overcoming the obstacles to enlightenment—and through the experiences of the characters.

Among the Best 5 out of 5 stars.
8 of 8 people found this review helpful.

This is one of my favorite translations of the Tao Te Ching. However, note that, like the author says, this is by no means a strict translation (athough in the case of the Tao Te Ching, there are so many varied translations / interpretations available that it is diificult to say if there is a strict translation). I would recommend this version of the Tao Te Ching it as a supplement to another translation.

Editorial Review:

The Tao te Ching of Lao Tzu is one of the most widely read and deeply cherished books in the world, a work many consider the wisest book ever written. In his introduction, translator Brian Browne Walker says, "It is less a book than a living, breathing angel."

In his new translation, Walker stays close to the direct literal accuracy of the Chinese characters while producing a modern, exceptionally clear version that has the ring and voice of Lao Tzu, a man who may or may not have been a single individual. "I have come to think of Lao Tzu less as a man who once lived," Walker writes, "and more as a song that plays, eternal and abiding."
