Editorial Review:

Famed Charles Manson prosecutor and three time #1 New York Times bestselling author Vincent Bugliosi has written the most powerful, explosive, and thought-provoking book of his storied career.

In The Prosecution of George W. Bush for Murder, Bugliosi presents a tight, meticulously researched legal case that puts George W. Bush on trial in an American courtroom for the murder of nearly 4,000 American soldiers fighting the war in Iraq. Bugliosi sets forth the legal architecture and incontrovertible evidence that President Bush took this nation to war in Iraq under false pretenses—a war that has not only caused the deaths of American soldiers but also over 100,000 innocent Iraqi men, women, and children; cost the United States over one trillion dollars thus far with no end in sight; and alienated many American allies in the Western world.

As a prosecutor who is dedicated to seeking justice, Bugliosi, in his inimitable style, delivers a non-partisan argument, free from party lines and instead based upon hard facts and pure objectivity.

A searing indictment of the President and his administration, The Prosecution of George W. Bush for Murder also outlines a legally credible pathway to holding our highest government officials accountable for their actions, thereby creating a framework for future occupants of the oval office.

Vincent Bugliosi calls for the United States of America to return to the great nation it once was and can be again. He believes the first step to achieving this goal is to bring those responsible for the war in Iraq to justice.

Please actually read Marx... 5 out of 5 stars.
4 of 6 people found this review helpful.

...and PLEASE read beyond the Manifesto! Ignore the anti-Marx ideologues who do not actually read him, and give him a shot. Forget, for a minute, all preconceived notions of communism, and take his writings as though they are fresh and brand new. Only then should you proceed on to reading criticism of him, history of Marxism, etc. The reader who is willing to undertake an actual study of Marx will find him infinitely valuable, and very astute on many things.

First, I'd like to (try to) clear up a few misconceptions about Marx that linger implacably in the minds of almost all Americans.

1) The Soviet Union, China, etc. were not Communist societies.
They were brutal dictatorships under the guise of communism, using it as an ideological blanket to mask their terrible atrocities. Moreover, Marx intended for Communism to evolve out of Capitalist societies (i.e., Britain and America during his time), not out of the feudalistic Russia/China. The argument that Communism killed 100 million is just wrong--dictators corrupting the ideas of communism (Lenin, Stalin, Mao, etc.) did so. So yes, Marx caused the deaths of 100 million in the same way Adam Smith caused the deaths of the Chinese and Irish immigrants who toiled on the railroad--in other words, not at all.

2.) Marxism =/= violence.
In certain places, especially the Manifesto, Marx does permit violence, and, indeed, advocate it. But Marx does not think it NECESSARY--that's the key point. Good Marxist thinkers, and I believe Marx himself, would say that communistic reforms could come just as easily and likely more efficiently from peaceful processes, as we have seen them for the most part in the United States.

3.) Communism is not welfare statism.
In fact, in a, actually realized communist society (unlikely to ever happen, I'll admit) there would be no government. Marx advocated the PEOPLE owning the means of production, not the state. This is a HUGE error that many make when reading Marx. I suspect he was just as distrusting of the state as your average libertarian, he just thought it necessary to rectify some of the wrongs of capitalism and a necessary step toward communism. Note the use of step there: Marx, taking from his predecessor Hegel, believes everything must proceed in steps!!

4.) The Communist Manifesto is not the end-all of communism.
Honestly, the Manifesto is a rather juvenile work compared to many of Marx's other writings, like DAS KAPITAL or GRUNDRISSE. It was intended as a sort of primer to communism, accessible to the common, sparsely-educated worker of Marx's time, and is a better demonstration of Marx/Engel's (everyone forgets about poor Engels!) rhetorical ability than of their thought proper.

I also believe that the Manifesto isn't really the best place to start. It breeds far too many misconceptions about communist thought, partly due to its theatricality, partly due to the way it has been misconstrued throughout the decades. If you do start with the Manifesto, as most people do, PLEASE continue on and read more about Marx! Trust me, it's worth it, and you learn the extreme depth of his theory.

One need only look at their time to understand why Marx and Engels were so infuriated at the capitalist system. Those years of the Industrial Revolution were an exciting and terrifying time. New wealth and new commodities were springing up constantly, but they tended to be concentrated in the hands of very few, while created at the expense of millions of common, downtrodden labourers. Those who attack government regulation of corporations should study the Gilded Age of America, and the Industrial Revolution in England. Child labourer, no safety laws whatsoever, no minimum wage, no work-week, no fair bargaining between workers and employees, government subsidizing of wealthy corporations, union-busters, etc. Is there any wonder Marx and Engels, who were essentially exiled to England during this time, were filled with such anger at the system that caused so much human suffering?

Marx's critique of capitalism is in my estimate the strongest part of his theory, and it is likely that his witnessing the above exploitations of workers is why it is so strong, and why the Manifesto seems so... angry. I strongly recommend that anyone interested in Marxist theory pick up a copy of the Marx-Engels Reader (also available on Amazon) and read through the "Critique of Capitalism" section, which offers selections from his writings under this topic.

How right Marx was is for the reader to decide. Again, I find his critique of capitalism VERY accurate, and believe the only reason his predictions haven't come to fruition to be because we implemented some of his recommended policies (we now live in a blended economy, somewhere on the spectrum between pure capitalism and communism). Communism itself is a bit silly, but not so much as the anti-Marxists make it out to be. The real take-away point here is that you should study (not read, STUDY) Marx for yourself, and not accept what I, or the anti-Marxists, tell you.

Editorial Review:

"A spectre is haunting Europe," Karl Marx and Frederic Engels wrote in 1848, "the spectre of Communism." This new edition of The Communist Manifesto, commemorating the 150th anniversary of its publication, includes an introduction by renowned historian Eric Hobsbawm which reminds us of the document's continued relevance. Marx and Engels's critique of capitalism and its deleterious effect on all aspects of life, from the increasing rift between the classes to the destruction of the nuclear family, has proven remarkably prescient. Their spectre, manifested in the Manifesto's vivid prose, continues to haunt the capitalist world, lingering as a ghostly apparition even after the collapse of those governments which claimed to be enacting its principles.

"THE COMMUNIST MANIFESTO OF THE 21ST CENTURY!" 5 out of 5 stars.

"THE COMMUNIST MANIFESTO OF THE 21ST CENTURY!"

This is truly the, "COMMUNIST MANIFESTO OF THE 21ST CENTURY!" As a Libertarian I see this for what it is. It is a guide book for every Stalinist Elitist Liberal which tells them how to deceive the people to gain power. And silence all opposition. And once they have gained the power do what they want to force the failure that is Communism on the public. For the public good.

In this book Alinsky reveals just what Stalinist like Hillary Clinton and rest of the Democrats have been doing for years to con the American people. Lying at ever turn as to who and what they really are. He clearly admits that their ideas will be rejected for the oppressive and regressive failure history has proven them to be. "So they must lie!" And they have been lying for the past 4o + years clearing using this book for the last 36 years as their Bible. Hillary, Bill, the entire Democrat party, the media and the Stalinist that infest our schools. And colleges. They're all doing it.

But Saul Alinsky doesn't stop there. He clearly spells out the principals that they (the Stalinist Liberal) must govern / lord over us for the public good. Sound familiar? Yup.. "Bound to your natural superiors." Karl Marx.

Now he tries to give himself cover by saying he has contempt for any dogma left or right. But if you read it for what it is and read Hillary Clinton's thesis. He fails miserable. It is what is it is. A guide book (the Bible) for the modern day Liberal like Hillary Clinton and today's Democrats on how to con you. And seize power! People who are not just neo Marxist, but are complete Stalinist Elites.

Don't be fooled by the defenders of this book. They're all using the tactics outlined in the book to silence opposition and criticism of Alinsky and the Democrats. It tell you exactly who and what they are and the total disaster it will be for America and the world if they are allowed to seize the power they so lust for.

To Borrow a phrase. "Liberal, Progressive, Humanist... A Stalinist by any other name." It's who they are and this book taken for what it is rips away their masks.

Editorial Review:

This primers tells the "have-nots" how they can organize to achieve real political power for the practice of true democracy.

A Partial Understanding of Who Rules 3 out of 5 stars.
3 of 3 people found this review helpful.

The author of this book, William Cooper, is so outraged at the subversion of the US governmment that he gets a little rough, approaching the boundaries of extremism.

The more valuable treasure to be mined from this study is the information on the secret societies. I doubt not a word of it and he is right on the money with his assertion that the CFR runs the US government.

If you can read this book and focus only on the chapters dealing with the secret societies, the population control techniques, the continuity of government plans in the Reagan administration, George H.W. Bush, and the mindless masses, you will have recieved your money's worth.

Stay away from the UFO chapters. They are obviously misinformation that Cooper inadvertantly picked up in his source documents, meant to discredit anyone who lifts the secret docs. (The reason why we discount the UFO stories is simply because, unlike the above topics, there just isn't enough corroborating evidence friendly to common sense.)

All of us should be outraged at this subversion of our democracy. Your best recourse is to get informed. Read other books about the secret/invisible government, CFR, and related elitist-type books. You may even find that 9/11 had nothing to do with...Arabs...

Editorial Review:

The author, former U.S. Naval Intelligence Briefing Team Member, reveals information kept secret by our government since the 1940s. UFOs, the J.F.K.. assassination, the Secret Government, the war on drugs and more by the world's leading expert on UFOs.

Editorial Review:

As founder of one of the most influential political blogs, DailyKos, Markos Moulitsas Zuniga establishes the fundamental laws that govern today's new era of digital activism.

The Sixties are over and the rules of power have been transformed. In order to change the world one needs to know how to manipulate the media, not just march in the streets. Markos Moulitsas Zuniga, otherwise known as "Kos," is today's symbol of digital activism, giving a voice to everyday people. In Taking on the System, Kos has taken a cue from his revolutionary predecessor's doctrine, Saul Alinksy's Alinsky's Rules for Radicals, and places this epic hand-book in today's digital era, empowering every American to make a difference in the 21st century.

As founder of the largest political blog in the nation, Kos knows how it's done, because he's done it with tremendous success. In Taking on the System, he shares practical guidelines on how grassroots movements can thrive in the age of global information, while referencing historical and present examples of the tragedy caused without those actions.

The walls between the people and the power the so-called rabble and the so-called elite are being torn down by technology, and a new army of amateurs are storming the barriers to effect political, cultural, and environmental transformation. Readers will come to understand how they too can change the world.

Editorial Review:

This is the single best book available on the Taliban, the fundamentalist Islamic regime in Afghanistan responsible for harboring the terrorist Osama bin Laden. Ahmed Rashid is a Pakistani journalist who has spent most of his career reporting on the region--he has personally met and interviewed many of the Taliban's shadowy leaders. Taliban was written and published before the massacres of September 11, 2001, yet it is essential reading for anyone who hopes to understand the aftermath of that black day. It includes details on how and why the Taliban came to power, the government's oppression of ordinary citizens (especially women), the heroin trade, oil intrigue, and--in a vitally relevant chapter--bin Laden's sinister rise to power. These pages contain stories of mass slaughter, beheadings, and the Taliban's crushing war against freedom: under Mullah Omar, it has banned everything from kite flying to singing and dancing at weddings. Rashid is for the most part an objective reporter, though his rage sometimes (and understandably) comes to the surface: "The Taliban were right, their interpretation of Islam was right, and everything else was wrong and an expression of human weakness and a lack of piety," he notes with sarcasm. He has produced a compelling portrait of modern evil. --John Miller

Seeing in the Fifth Dimension 5 out of 5 stars.
16 of 37 people found this review helpful.

I think it was the poor French philosopher Althusser who claimed that Marx had discovered a new continent of thought called "history" equivalent to the continents of thought discovered by Pythagoras (geometry) and Aristotle (science). I would use a different metaphor. It is as if Marx invented a pair of x-ray glasses that allows you the viewer to see the exploitation hidden in every commodity, no matter how beautifully it is packaged. I guess the only book it is really comparable to would be the Bible, edited and created in the year 207 by the North African Roman citizen Quintus Septimius Florens Tertullianus. On the narrative level the books are quite opposite. The one starts with a single savior who comes to save the world, but ends up being exploited, abused and killed, thus needing saving, the other starts with a class that is exploited, abused and killed, but ends up saving the world. Of the two, Marx is definitely the more optimistic view. But if we could resurrect Marx as we resurrected Jesus, would he still have his optimism?

Editorial Review:

Capital, one of Marx's major and most influential works, was the product of thirty years close study of the capitalist mode of production in England, the most advanced industrial society of his day. This new translation of Volume One, the only volume to be completed and edited by Marx himself, avoids some of the mistakes that have marred earlier versions and seeks to do justice to the literary qualities of the work. The introduction is by Ernest Mandel, author of Late Capitalism, one of the only comprehensive attempts to develop the theoretical legacy of Capital.

A Fascinating Book 5 out of 5 stars.
10 of 14 people found this review helpful.

Some years ago I began doubting the offical line on Pearl Harbor. How were the Japanese able to "sneak" an entire fleet of twenty three large ships, including six aircraft carriers, across the Pacific Ocean without anyone noticing it? Other seemingly unrelated questions arose: Where did Hitler get the money to build his war machine? Where's the blast crater underneath the LEM? A lot of things we used to accept as gospel back in school just didn't add up in the end. Conspiracy theory fills in a lot of the gaps and it's an ugly picture that develops.

How the World Really Works is a great starting book for rookies who are just beginning to study conspiracy theory. But it's a valuable tool for old hands as well. In short, the theory holds that a conspiratorial, power mad ruling elite, and their political puppets, decide things; not "we the people". Much of what happens in the so-called democracies contradict what (most) voters want, and the explanations served up by the mass media are often ridiculous. Alan Jones takes on some of the weird stuff we see going on and tells what's really at stake.

HTWRW is actually a summation of twelve conspiracy books by various authors; each taking on a different facet of the elite's hidden agenda: a polyhedron with many sides, all abutting one another.

Want to know the real reason we're in Iraq? "A Century of War" will help you understand. Interested in learning why America and Americans can't get out of debt? "The Creature From Jekyll Island" tells you why. Do you wonder why things like "the environment" and "The War on Terrorism" suddenly become national mantras? "Report from Iron Mountain" lays it out. Is the CIA really running drugs? "The Politics of Heroin" and "Dope Inc." reveal some very interesting things.

I found HTWRW to be a fast and fascinating read. I've been into books on conspiracy theory for several years, but there was a lot of stuff in it that took me by surprise. Still, there are a few gripes: Jones makes a sketchy connection between prohibition and the rise of the dope industry. His explanation of the idea behind "waste" as described in "Report From Iron Mountain" is somewhat unclear. And trying to follow the many twists in "Politics of Heroin" and "Dope Inc." made those chapters tough to read.

Also, though he's generally a good writer, some of Jones' prose gets rather tangled. He understands what he means but the reader may have to re-read something several times to understand it. Overall though, it's a great book, and very helpful.

My favorite chapters: "A Century of War", "Tragedy and Hope", "The Creature from Jekyll Island" and "The Politics of Heroin". After reading HTWRW I bought some of the books summarized in it, and I'll be getting some of the others.

Editorial Review:

This extensively indexed book succinctly summarizes the findings of a dozen or so of the most important works of the 20th century - from both sides of the conflict - which expose how and why a cabal of international plutocrats is planning to destroy America and any other country preventing the ultimate hegemony of their New World Order.

First published in 1946 and updated in 1969 with a new Introduction and Afterword, this volume represents the fullest statement of the political philosophy and practical methodology of one of the most important figures in the history of American radicalism. Like Thomas Paine before him, Saul Alinsky, through the concept and practice of community organizing, was able to embody for his era both the urgency of radical political action and the imperative of rational political discourse. His work and writing bequeathed a new method and style of social change to American communities that will remain a permanent part of the American political landscape.

"Alinsky is that rarity in American life, a superlative organizer, strategist, and tactician who is also a social philosopher."

-- Charles E. Silberman
