An intro to past live regression 3 out of 5 stars.
2 of 3 people found this review helpful.

I bought this book because a friend attended one of Brian Weiss' workshops where they did a powerful past life regression. I thought this book and CD would be comparable to it. It wasn't. The CD is short and is very rushed. Every time I do the CD, I never feel like I have enough time. I feel like I am being yanked away right when I am starting to gain something.

The book is quite short too. The pages are beautiful and relaxing. Its a good read and very helpful.

Mirrors of Time: Using Regression for Physical, Emotional, and Spiritual Healing 4 out of 5 stars.

Good for the beginers on Spiritual Path...

great cd 4 out of 5 stars.
1 of 1 people found this review helpful.

I use the CD everyday and it has helped me learn a lot. If you're new to self-hypnosis, this is a great starting point. And if you're not, this is great place to learn a past-life regression technique. Brian Weiss seemed to have put a bit of extra fluff in this one, but over-all I like it.

Editorial Review:

MIRRORS OF TIME allows you to take regression therapy to the next level. A CD is included that goes beyond meditation and visualisation exercises - it contains the actual regression techniques Dr. Weiss uses with his patients. Now you can go back through time by remembering past events that may have led to symptoms or difficulties in the present time. Regular practice will foster your physical, emotional, and spiritual health.

Great book, amazing writer! 5 out of 5 stars.
18 of 19 people found this review helpful.

Eliana Gil is amazing, if you have ever talked with her in person you know what I mean. She is definately one of the foremost experts on treating abused and traumatized children, and has many creative ideas on techniques to use in child and family therapy, etc. (See her other books) In this book, she reviews how to integrate non-directive (i,e, Child centered) approaches with more directive approaches, which is very helpful if you are trying to work with kids in a tight time frame, traveling from school to school, or are just trying to get your head around a theoretical orientation for practice with children and families. I highly reccomend this and her other publications, as well as going to a presentation at one of her conferences.

Editorial Review:

Presenting an integrative model for treating traumatized children, this book combines play, art, and other expressive therapies with ideas and strategies drawn from cognitive-behavioral and family therapy. Eliana Gil demonstrates how to tailor treatment to the needs of each child by using both directive and nondirective approaches. Throughout, practical clinical examples illustrate ways to target trauma-related symptomatology while also helping children process painful feelings and memories that are difficult to verbalize. The book concludes with four in-depth cases that bring to life the unique situation of each child and family, the decision making process of the therapist, and the applications of developmentally informed, creative, and flexible interventions.

Challenging Current Thinking in Clinical Psychology 5 out of 5 stars.
100 of 100 people found this review helpful.

Hayes and colleagues have made an excellent contribution with their book Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT) by drawing together many years of theoretical work and practice into a very readable work. The first half of the book outlines the theoretical foundations of ACT. Many recent books in clinical psychology claim to offer a new psychotherapeutic technique or a new approach within a particular conceptual framework. In contrast, Hayes and colleagues present a new and comprehensive conceptual foundation for psychotherapy. They seek to challenge some of the cherished notions in mental health (e.g., that mental disorders always arise from abnormality) and critique some of the central ideas in many popular therapies (e.g., the idea in Cognitive Behaviour Therapy that mental health will be improved by changing the content of one's thoughts). Their argument identifies language and our use of it as both one of the key reasons for humanity's success and our inability to rid ourselves of many mental health issues. For a reflective practitioner or academic, the arguments presented will give the reader much food for thought.

The second half of the book outlines the practice of ACT and as such illustrates the fist part. This sections is excellent in that even thought it uses language to describe ACT, it attempts to use the principles of ACT upon the reader and gives the reader examples to work though at the end of each chapter. Thus, the reader cannot emerge at the end of the book without having been changed by reading the book.

The ability to critique current thinking in clinical psychology is not novel, but the ability to present an alternative is much more rare. Hayes and colleages have done so and have presented it in a way that will be accessible to practitioners and researchers from many different theoretical orientations. A challenging and thought-provoking book.

Editorial Review:

Most therapists and clients believe that a more vital life can be attained by overcoming negative thoughts and feelings. Yet despite efforts to achieve this goal, many individuals continue to suffer with behavior disorders, adjustment difficulties, and low life satisfaction. This volume presents a unique psychotherapeutic approach that addresses the problem of psychological suffering by altering the very ground on which rational change strategies rest. Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT) focuses in particular on the ways clients understand and perpetuate their difficulties through language. Providing a comprehensive overview of the approach and detailed guidelines for practice, this book shows how interventions based on metaphor, paradox, and experiential exercises can enable clients to break free of language traps, overcome common behavioral problems, and enhance general life satisfaction.

Enlighten ! 5 out of 5 stars.
3 of 3 people found this review helpful.

This is a great book and CD! Without the CD, one might be in lost of proper sounding each 5 words, and without the book one still be in lost. Both together, one will have great understand and wisdom of knowing.

This is a excellent book/cd for beginners and for those who want to heal. I find this book very educational and enlighten. The CD it self fills the room of good vibes and peace and joy, without humming the 5 words. You will pick these healing sound of each words with no problem. Though the "DZA" may take some use too, but it is not really difficult. The "D" sound is quick a short, like you not hear the "d" sound, and more of z sound. It's very quick.

Though I was searching for a book that has a bounch of different sounds for different chakras, and so forth. This book still was very helpful. Even if just knowing these 5 words, will give you an good idea of other sounds of your own you can try. Direct these vibes both front and back for best clearing all blockages orbing around the body. Experiment with the body when sounding to, you can feel the vibes in legs and arms too.

Editorial Review:

One of the world's oldest unbroken spiritual traditions is that of the B?n people?the indigenous people of Tibet, whose teachings predate the arrival of Buddhism. These traditions have survived political persecution and upheaval thanks to the efforts of a handful of dedicated lamas such as B?n lineage holder Tenzin Wangyal Rinpoche. Now with Tibetan Sound Healing, practitioners can connect to the ancient sacred sounds of the B?n practice?and through them, activate the healing potential of the natural mind. The B?n healing tradition invokes The Five Warrior Syllables??seed? sounds that bring us to the essential nature of mind and release the boundless creativity and positive qualities that are fundamental to our natural consciousness. Through the medicine of sound, practitioners learn to clear obstacles on the level of the body, the energetic and emotional dimensions of being, and the spiritual consciousness.

Editorial Review:

An updated, expanded edition of Norton's best-selling professional book on genograms. Over 140,000 copies sold.

Widely used to train health and mental health professionals, the genogram is a graphic way of organizing information gathered during a family assessment and identifying patterns in the family system. This popular text—updated and expanded to highlight new developments in genogram use—thoroughly explains how to draw, interpret, and apply the genogram.

Using genograms of famous families as examples—including those of Sigmund Freud, the Kennedys, Bill Clinton, and Thomas Jefferson, to name a few—the authors examine the principles of family systems theory and systemic interviewing. Clinical applications of genograms in both family therapy and family medicine are described, and new frontiers of research are explored, particularly the use of computer-generated genograms.

Entertaining and instructive, Genograms is the ideal guide for introducing all those involved in family treatment—family therapists, physicians, nurses, social workers, counselors, and trainees in these fields—to this essential assessment and intervention tool.

A Script from along time ago 3 out of 5 stars.
5 of 8 people found this review helpful.

My premise for reading this book is to understand the dynamic of drama. I was reading some material on angriesout.com and I was intrigued with how an individiual can discuss a subject matter having a viewpoint as the Hero, Victim, or Persecutor.

The introduction in this book reads like an autobio for Eric Berne and his psychoanalytical theories. It is appealing how the author has paid detail attention to how the book is presented. You can focus on sections of the book that you want to review. In otherwords, you do not have to read the complete book and duplicate reading material that you may already be familiar with. The book entails how the Parent, Child, and Adult Roles interacts based upon scripts or what you have learned in your environment as a youth or ect.

The book has a copyright of 1974 and 1990. I had to stop reading the book on page 180 in the chapter of Banal scripts of Women. I could not go on I could not relate to Plastic women which mentions that the "Mythical Heroine: She is fascinated by Doris Day .... amused by Phyllis Diller." These examples are decades old. I didn't want to continue reading something that in 2007 is not relevant for me.

Editorial Review:

When Claude Steiner and the late Eric Berne developed the theory of Transactional Analysis, their basic belief that people were “born princes and princess, until their parents turned them into frogs” countered the fundamental principle of psychiatry which asserts that emotional and mental distress comes from within. This theory was further developed in Steiner’s book Games Alcoholics Play. Dr. Berne, in What Do You Say After You Say Hello?, acknowledged Steiner’s important role in the analysis of “life scripts” which we choose at an early age and which rule every detail of our lives until our death.

In Scripts People Live, Steiner expands upon this belief to show that people are innately healthy but develop a pattern early in life based upon negative or positive influences of those around them.

A brilliant resource 5 out of 5 stars.
2 of 2 people found this review helpful.

My supervisor at the agency I worked in was a huge Michael White fan and introduce me to his work. I first read "Narrative Means to Therapeutic Ends" by White and Epston. It had a profound influence on my practice as a family therapist. I loved the ideas, especially that they work in a way that empowers people does not pathologize them. But I found the writing to be overly concerned with deconstructionist philosophy and sometimes too cerebral. Much of the Narrative field followed that lead and wrote in that style. Please. Too much postmodern angst folks.

Fortunately, Michael White has written about Narrative Therapy for the general public and in doing so has also given professionals a brilliant and accessible entry into the world of Narrative Therapy and externalization. I couldn't recommend the work more. It's personal and has very illustrative transcripts of actual sessions that do an excellent job of demonstrating the work and how wonderfully it gives people control over previously debilitating problems.

I've studied with White and found him to be very present, warm, encouraging and with little ego. Finally here is a book that lets both his brilliance as a therapist his healing personality show through the abstractions of his more academic writing.

Editorial Review:

The latest on narrative therapy, from one of the founders of the field.

Narrative therapy is one of the most commonly practiced modes of therapy. In the first major book from this leader in the field, each chapter provides an overview of a main area of narrative therapy by explaining how it works and detailing the psychotherapeutic implications of these conversations. This is essential reading for anyone in psychotherapy.

Best practical handbook on EMDR!! 5 out of 5 stars.
3 of 3 people found this review helpful.

I found Parnell's A Therapist Guide to EMDR so accessible and comprehensive, it was a pleasure to read. It is a great review for anyone who has just taken the courses or who wants to review and update their skills in EMDR. I loved the way she presented a technique and then often followed it up with very specific how-to case examples. I could clearly see Parnell's exceptional skillfulness and respectful caring for each of her clients' processes.
I also just find it helpful as a practical resource handbook to check up on a particular technique and read about the different aspects of it. Its a must have for EMDR therapists!

Editorial Review:

Practice essentials from a leading EMDR trainer and practitioner.

With an emphasis on clinical usefulness rather than research, this book provides practitioners of eye movement desensitization and reprocessesing (EMDR) with a hands-on guide to this essential therapy. Reviewing basic concepts (such as interviewing and case formulation) as well as providing advanced strategies (such as closing incomplete sessions), this is a book for all EMDR clinicians.

A Life Changing Health and Wellness Tool 5 out of 5 stars.
4 of 4 people found this review helpful.

In "The Energy of Belief", Sheila Bender and Mary Sise present a thorough education on what beliefs can do to you, what they can do for you and how they can often work against you. They also teach an easily learned body-energy based method "Touch and Breathe" (TAB). Practicing this method as the easy-to-understand instructions detail, will release negative beliefs and with them, completely change your life. I know, this technique is one I practice and teach myself. I was very impressed by both the research as well as the straight talking explanations and extra tips and hints that made all the difference in artful use of TAB for personal issues. I recommend this book for those who are keen to dump problems, stress and overload. You couldn't have better teachers than these two authors, who are outstanding guides in what for most will be new, though exciting, territory. Buy this book today and start living the life you've always dreamed. When you have control of your beliefs, anything is possible!

Editorial Review:

Sise and Bender lay out a series of simple exercises that allow people in distress to quickly feel major physical and psychological shifts by holding their bodies in certain ways while taking deep breaths. Their book is packed with real-life case histories of clients who were not helped by the forms of therapy, but for whom the authors' technique, energy-TAB, produced miraculous results.
