I loved this Bible!! 5 out of 5 stars.
4 of 4 people found this review helpful.

I bought this Bible for my husband and one for my brother for Christmas. They both were extremely satisfied and really enjoy reading it. They really seem to like the extras such as little devotionals and weekly readings.

Great choice! 5 out of 5 stars.

I purchased 2 of these Bibles for my adult sons and they love them. If you are looking for a devotional Bible for men, don't hesitate to get this one. 5 Stars from me.

Great product and Great speedy service 5 out of 5 stars.

Men's Devotional Bible 5 out of 5 stars.

This is a great Bible - my husband's only complaint is that the print is very small.

A great find after a rather exhaustive search 5 out of 5 stars.
0 of 0 people found this review helpful.

I was seeking a devotional that would provide me with a Bible-based approach, be incrementally consumable on a daily frequency, present thoughtful articles and provide questions as well. These criteria were hard to come by. Most books had most but not all of them. I was very pleased to find this for myself.

I read out of this each morning. Most important to me is that I have some level of interaction with the text. I was seeking this interaction specifically in the form of questions that would prod my introspection and feed my contemplations. Thus, answer each of the three daily on-topic questions in a separate notebook. I'm excited to be moving through this journey and I am very happy to have what I feel is a great venue and tool in this Men's Devotional Bible. I am already considering buying a copy for my brother.

Editorial Review:

Written by men for men, the New Men’s Devotional Bible in NIV offers a fresh perspective on God’s Word through a year’s worth of relevant, engaging devotions placed throughout the text of the NIV.

A Must Read For All Educators And Parents! 5 out of 5 stars.
2 of 3 people found this review helpful.

This book, along with Jawanzaa Kunjufu's books, is a must read for all educators. If you want to make a positive change in the lives of African American males, it is important to understand the "powers" that are in place that hinders the growth of not just our African American boys, but all of our children, because without the positive influences/gifts of these young boys, everyone will suffer.

Editorial Review:

Examining how African American males end up in dead-end classes, this book explores what must be done to change this trend, asking such questions as What happens to these boys in special education? and How can educators and communities reduce the number of African American boys receiving Ritalin and ultimately dropping out?

Like a linen suit, nice to have but hardly essential. 2 out of 5 stars.
3 of 5 people found this review helpful.

I should say that this is first and foremost a coffee table book.

The main contention seems to be whether this or Flusser's book is the "quintessential" guide to men's style. It seems to me that this is a false dichotomy. Flusser (and might I recommend Antongiovanni's "The Suit") is a *guide to* men's style. "Gentleman" is a book *about* men's style. There is a subtle distinction here. I think it could best be described as the difference between a Time-Life book about WWII and "The Rise and Fall of the Third Reich". The one might be prettier, easier to read, and give you a decent overview of the subject, but if you want to get into the nitty gritty of numbers and details, you want to go with the "real" book.

"Gentleman: A Timeless Fashion" is a great book to keep on your coffee table and flip open occasionally, but if you want real, useful information about men's style and tailored clothing, go with Flusser or Antongiovanni.

Editorial Review:

In a thoroughly enjoyable reading experience you will learn all there is to know about fabric, cut, patterns, color, and the optimal care and clothing for men from head to toe. From the perfectly placed tie knot to custom-made shoes, from casual sweaters to a top hat, everything you need for the appropriate outfit is explained in detail.

Editorial Review:

Praise for The Macho Paradox

"An honest, intellectually rigorous and insightful work that challenges readers to truly engage in a political discourse that can change lives, communities and nations."

--Rosalind Wiseman, author of Queen Bees and Wannabes

"Jackson Katz is an American hero! With integrity and courage, he has taken his message--that the epidemic of violence against women is a men's issue--into athletic terms, the military and frat houses across the country. His book explains carefully and convincingly why--and how--men can become part of the solution, and work with women to build a world in which everyone is safer."

--Michael Kimmel, author of Manhood in America, spokesperson, National Organization for Men Against Sexism (NOMAS)

"If only men would read Katz's book, it could serve as a potent form of male consciousness-raising."

--Publishers Weekly

"This book leaves no man behind when it comes to taking violence against women personally....After reading this book you can see how important it is to be a stand-up guy and not a standy-by guy, no matter what race or culture you come from."

--Alfred L. McMichael, 14th Sergeant Major of the Marine Corps and now serving as the Sergeant Major of NATO

"A candid look at the cultural factors that lend themselves to tolerance of abuse and violence against women."

--Booklist

"These pages will empower both men and women to end the scourge of male violence and abuse. Katz knows how to cut to the core of the issues, demonstrating undeniably that stopping the degradation of women should be every man's priority."

--Lundy Bancroft, author of Why Does He Do That?: Inside the Minds of Angry and Controlling Men

Book of Bob 5 out of 5 stars.
4 of 4 people found this review helpful.

If you have a Bob in your life - friend, partner, relative - then this is the book for you. Rather than ugly neckties, ill-fitting shirts, and golf balls, how about this book by Tom Crisp. He's conducted a lot of research and dug up the most memorable and not-so-memorable quotes from guys named Bob, Robbie, Robby, Bobby, Robert, etc. and compiled them into one volume. Here's the url for a video of Tom reading a couple Bob quotes - one from DeNiro and the other from McKee: www dot youtube dot com/watch?v=F5VXlvLy_Ks

Don't forget to buy it through Amazon.com the free delivery service is great!

That is all, Alan O.

Editorial Review:

"Bob" has ranked among the top ten male names since the first U.S. Census in 1790, and more than five million American men identify themselves by some form of the name. Author Tom Crisp, whose older brother got the name from their father, channels his sibling regrets by compiling more than 500 quotes from 250 of the world's most famous (and infamous) "Bobs," including Robert the Bruce, Robert E. Lee, Bob Dole, Bob Marley, Robert Frost, Bobby Locke, Bob Dylan, Robert Duvall, Robert F. Kennedy, Bob Fosse, Robert Browning, and many more. Celebrate the innate "Bobness" that exists in 34 out of every 1,000 American men with The Book of Bob.

Thanks Ms Sommers for caring about boys! 5 out of 5 stars.
3 of 6 people found this review helpful.

It is so refreshing to have an author look at a problem with boys' (and girls') interests at heart. Full of facts, well written and well reasoned. A real treat for an embattled male. Thanks Ms. Sommers! You make me glad I have tried to be fair to women in my classes and in hiring.

Read this book & start understanding the enemy 5 out of 5 stars.

A brilliant investigation into
the destructive effects of academic theory
and the pathological minds who create
intellectual nonsense.

Editorial Review:

Despite popular belief, American boys tag behind girls in reading and writing ability, and they are less likely to go to college. Our young men are greatly at risk, yet the best-known studies and experts insist that it's girls who are in need of our attention. The highly publicized "girl crisis" has led to many changes in American schools, politics, and parenting...but at what cost?

In this provocative book, Christina Hoff Sommers argues that our society has continued to overemphasize the troubles of girls while our boys suffer from the same self-esteem and academic problems. Boys need help, but not the sort of help they've been getting.

Editorial Review:

Tell a woman we need to save the males and she’ll give you the name of her shrink. But cultural provocateur Kathleen Parker, who was raised by her father and who mothered a pack of boys, makes a humorous case for rescuing the allegedly stronger sex from trends that portend man’s cultural demise.

Save the Males
is a shrewd, amusing, and sure-to-be-controversial look at how men, maleness, and fatherhood have been under siege in American culture for decades. Kathleen Parker argues that the feminist movement veered off course from it’s original aim of helping women achieve equality and ended up making enemies of men. With piercing wit, this nationally syndicated columnist shows us how the pendulum has swung from the reasonable middle to a place where men have been ridiculed in the public square and the importance of fatherhood has been diminished–all to the detriment of women, who ultimately suffer most.
The real losers, should we continue on our present course, are not just grown men and women but our children. Young people involuntarily drafted into the squabbles of their parents’ generation and raised in a climate of sexual hostility–also known as the “hookup culture”–may be fluent in porn, but their vocabulary is painfully limited when it comes to relationships.

While Parker gleefully skewers the silly side of the human experiment–like men in dresses and sperm shopping–she offers sobering statistics on the impact of the anti-male culture on the institution of the family and on relationships.
Exploring our burgeoning “slut culture” and the vividly narcissistic prevalence of vagina worship, Save the Males softens no edges. Parker tackles some of the more taboo subjects in today’s sexual politics and culture wars with perceptive analysis and a stinging sense of humor that will have America talking–and chuckling–about saving the males.

Editorial Review:

Coping With Erectile Dysfunction was awarded the best consumer book of 2006 by the Society for Sex Therapy and Research.

Continuing the momentum of their revolutionary book, Coping with Premature Ejaculation, Michael Metz and Barry McCarthy, two of the nation's most respected sex therapists, bring you the only complete self-help resource on the market for men dealing with erectile dysfunction. Not only is this book the first to address this problem using the most current research into male sexuality, but it is the first to propose a treatment approach that unites medical, psychological, and relationship-enhancing techniques into a cooperative process that couples can work through together.

The book begins with an uncomplicated explanation of ED and a discussion of the mythologies that surround much of male sexuality. After describing the integrated treatment approach, the book helps men develop a set of realistic sexual expectations for each phase of their lives and explores the role of their partners in resolving ED problems. Exercises help men assess the nature of their problems. The results of the assessments lead readers to explore medical, psychological, and couples-related interventions. The book closes with a detailed program for relapse prevention. Ultimately, the Metz-McCarthy approach encourages couples to explore their own sexual intimacy as a means of overcoming the problem.

Editorial Review:

Adam Sandler movies, HBO's Entourage, and such magazines as Maxim and FHM all trade in and appeal to one character& mdash;the modern boy-man. Addicted to video games, comic books, extreme sports, and dressing down, the boy-man would rather devote an afternoon to Grand Theft Auto than plan his next career move. He would rather prolong the hedonistic pleasures of youth than embrace the self-sacrificing demands of adulthood.

When did maturity become the ultimate taboo? Men have gone from idolizing Cary Grant to aping Hugh Grant, shunning marriage and responsibility well into their twenties and thirties. Gary Cross, renowned cultural historian, identifies the boy-man and his habits, examining the attitudes and practices of three generations to make sense of this gradual but profound shift in American masculinity. Cross matches the rise of the American boy-man to trends in twentieth-century advertising, popular culture, and consumerism, and he locates the roots of our present crisis in the vague call for a new model of leadership that, ultimately, failed to offer a better concept of maturity.

Cross does not blame the young or glorify the past. He finds that men of the "Greatest Generation" might have embraced their role as providers but were confused by the contradictions and expectations of modern fatherhood. Their uncertainty gave birth to the Beats and men who indulged in childhood hobbies and boyish sports. Rather than fashion a new manhood, baby-boomers held onto their youth and, when that was gone, embraced Viagra. Without mature role models to emulate or rebel against, Generation X turned to cynicism and sensual intensity, and the media fed on this longing, transforming a life stage into a highly desirable lifestyle. Arguing that contemporary American culture undermines both conservative ideals of male maturity and the liberal values of community and responsibility, Cross concludes with a proposal for a modern marriage of personal desire and ethical adulthood., reviewing a previous edition or volume

Fun and useful 4 out of 5 stars.
4 of 4 people found this review helpful.

I chose this book as I'd been long looking for a book on parenting that didn't have a pastel and taupe color scheme (read into that, "geared towards dads"). It was hard to find. The author's tone is very much a guy talking to another guy, has useful information in a non-PhD-nor-purporting-to-speak-to-that-level kind of way, has some good ideas that you wouldn't think about reading a book for moms. I have two beefs, both of which are minor and hasn't prevented me from recommending the book to friends. As he gets to the point in the book where it becomes a bit more about child-rearing and less about dealing with a baby in the house, he gets a bit preachy which was a bit of a turn-off for me. Also, he's a bit crass on some things (goes along with the tone of guy talking to another guy). Still funny but not what I would have hoped. I've recommended it to a few friends also expecting their first baby and they've enjoyed it as well.

Real men don't breast feed 5 out of 5 stars.

While pregnant, I saw this book and knew my husband would enjoy it. (He's not your average guy)

This author covers just about everything a father might encounter -- from delivery-room insanity to survival in a post-apolcalyptic world -- and makes it all hilarious.

As we read it, we laughed - a LOT. He actually took the author's advice and turned the labor room into a party. I'm glad he did. We laughed our baby into the world!

My girlfriends and I now bag on some of the daddy types we see at the park - especially those Lactating Daddies!
