I've read it over ten times 5 out of 5 stars.
1 of 1 people found this review helpful.

Since I first read this book over 15 years ago I've read the book over 10 times. I read it three times the first year. I felt it was an amazing story, very touching, and able to tug at me each time I read it. The strength and courage that the author had was amazing.

Wonderful book 5 out of 5 stars.

I could not put this book down! It made my cry a couple of times but it does have a happy ending.

An awsome read 5 out of 5 stars.
0 of 0 people found this review helpful.

This book is mind-numbingly captivating. I dont like getting depressed after reading a book, and I was expecting to find myself knee deep in a semi-horror novel. Such as David Pelzer's "A child called It," (good book by the way) but this story is different. Though the events told in this story are horrific, there is an enchanting light of hope that guides you through the chapters. The good expressed in this book is equal to the bad, and it makes for a well balanced read. The innocents and wisdom this child reflects is just heart wrenching. I love it.

Editorial Review:

Burch was left at an orphanage and never stayed at any one foster home long enough to make any friends. This is the story of how he grew up and gained the courage to reach out for love.

Bravo Dr. Lerner 5 out of 5 stars.
0 of 0 people found this review helpful.

I have three women's support groups and I have used Dr. Lerner's books as guidelines for our discussions - an amazing in depth understanding of the human psyche.
This, as well as all her books, should be required reading by all high school classes. Maybe we could have a different outcome from our future citizens.

Editorial Review:

In The Dance of Intimacy, the bestselling author of The Dance of Anger outlines the steps to take so that good relationships can be strengthened and difficult ones can be healed. Taking a careful look at those relationships where intimacy is most challenged--by distance, intensity, or pain--she teaches us about the specific changes we can make to achieve a more solid sense of self and a more intimate connectedness with others. Combining clear advice with vivid case examples, Dr. Lerner offers us the most solid, helpful book on intimate relationships that both women and men may ever encounter.

Boring 3 out of 5 stars.
2 of 5 people found this review helpful.

I like watching Steve Doocy on Fox & Friends but this book is a disappointment. It's not funny and is actually quite boring. Too bad - he's a funny guy on TV.

Editorial Review:

Funny, provocative, and sometimes counter-intuitive advice on the best ways for both men and women to make a relationship work. In "The Mr. and Mrs. Happy Handbook", Steve Doocy will attempt to give all men and women answers to the questions that arise in their relationships. Riffing on everything from the first date, first kiss, to last rites, Doocy talks about the crazy arcs that each relationship takes, from dating, proposing, wedding, honeymooning, being married, having kids, to making it work. Doocy has been married for twenty years, but he's not declaring this a self-help book. It's more of a don't try this at home book. Doocy's an expert on what not to do, because he's already done all the dumb stuff, and he's learned from his mistakes. Plus, for anything he has not learned, and for additional WMD (women, men, dating) brilliance, Doocy has included bits and pieces from his celebrity interviews, which will make the reader feel simpatico with the rich and famous.

Great on the Basics 4 out of 5 stars.
3 of 3 people found this review helpful.

I read the 2005 German edition of the 1999 US book. It is on the basics of lesbian sexuality and beyond. There are other books recommended for saving the bored done-it-all inner city sexpert from lesbian bed death. But let's face it: Most of us aren't that lucky. It depends on what book you are seeking. It is not the book's fault that a few already know most of its content. This book is also for those who lack imagination, knowledge and/or experience in lesbian sexuality. Meaning, you don't have to be a lesbian to find this book informative. Which can't really be said about many heterosexual sex books vice versa. In fact, one or the other information, many gay men should be aware of, as the author isn't squeamish about anal sexuality.

You will find not only virtually everything from masturbation to sex parties, but also on safer sex. Especially this section is important for heterosexuals as well, as most of the latter hardly engage in it, when it comes to oral sex on females. Lately, I went into a classic straight sex shop to buy some dental dams and the sales person didn't even know what I was talking about, even though they offered them in some corner. This expensive, that I am glad that this book gives instructions to the public on how to make them yourself from cheaper and more readily available items. Again, recommendable information for everybody else in the anilingus version.

I find it noteworthy that this book takes the pressure off political correctness, when it comes to sexual fantasies. And yes, there's a difference, when this lesbian sexpert does it or some creepy sexual release magazine.

Be aware that the traditional hanky code has many variations. The meanings to the colors provided here are mostly shared. However, some may lead to misunderstandings. For example, white is decoded here as seeking/being a newbie. I know it rather as: "Leave me alone, today I am here just for the beer." It should also be noted that some colors look very similar in the usually softly lit places, where you find them.

You may be interested in specialized topics, like Female Ejaculation and the G-Spot: Not Your Mother's Orgasm Book! (Positively Sexual).

Editorial Review:

Witty and personal, this is the first post-sex wars sex guide for lesbians, offering information and support for all lesbian lifestyles. It speaks to lesbian and bisexual readers of diverse experiences - young and old, partnered and single, trans- and traditionally gendered, sexually experienced and naive. The Whole Lesbian Sex Book offers basic information, techniques, advice, support, and playful discourse on the subject of lesbian sex, including: where to find partners, G-spot stimulation, oral sex, vaginal fisting, dildos for fun and fashion, dynamics of butch/femme sex, anal sex, the pleasures of lube and latex, where to cop the best cybersex, and leather, piercings, tattoos, high heels, and other fetishes.

Dangerous charlatanism 1 out of 5 stars.

This book and the techniques it describes is dangerous. I know people who have actually hurt themselves ***physically*** and ***psychologically*** by doing Mantak Chia's techniques. Be very very careful.

Women, a good gift for your man 5 out of 5 stars.
1 of 1 people found this review helpful.

I gave this to my husband, reaching middle age has its issues, high blood pressure, menopause, teenagers, and his father's deaths. My husband who never reads at home, read this book. It is a quick, an easy read, he did put it out of site from our 13 year old son.

My husband was already familar chi since it is related to martial arts. The breathing he knew also, but other parts of the books held different concepts of interest.

I left to visit my family for at the beach for a couple of weeks, since he was facing very stressful weeks at work and dealing with estate issues. I did not think he would look at this book. To my delight and enjoyment upon coming home he had. Our lives have changed.

A man having multiple orgasms changes the whole sexual encounter for both parties. It is just amazing. I could not be happier we have opened this door, it is the best gift I have ever given my husband. Menopause is a forgotten, that I am aging is forgotten for I feel sixteen again.

The issues of middle age are less of an issue and our enjoyment in each other has increased in everything we do together. We have reconnected on every level, have private jokes, our teenager feels leftout, which is now it should be.

I have a lover and my best friend!

The book is well written & a quick an easy read.

Editorial Review:

A practical guide for men on how to reach their sexual potential presents simple, detailed exercises to help men achieve multiple and full-body orgasms, discussing male and female sexuality, the art of pleasuring a partner, impotence, and more. $75,000 ad/promo. Tour.

to much info 1 out of 5 stars.
1 of 5 people found this review helpful.

I bought this book to explain sex to my 10 year old daughter. I read it first then hide it fast! I didn't let my daughter read it. The book was good until it talked about masturbation. It says, "Touching and rubbing your genitals to feel good is called masturbation." This is not something I want her to know about yet. It also says 'sexual intercourse feels wonderful.' Well, I don't want her to know that either. (I don't want to lie to the girl!) So the hunt is back on for the perfect sex book.

Great Book- gave to my 8 year old son 5 out of 5 stars.
0 of 0 people found this review helpful.

I had my son to read this book- I read thru it first, and then I gave it to him to read on his own. When he was finished, I asked if he had any questions, and opened the room for discussion. I feel this book was very helpful in answering everything he was curious about- it was just the right amount of straight forward, yet age appropriate information.

Editorial Review:

Written specifically for parents who are having trouble talking to their children about sex, this humorously illustrated book contains basic information children need to know and answers to tough questions about sex and the human body."

A Balanced Approach 5 out of 5 stars.

Goes beyond the simplistic notion of shallow forgiveness into the real work of repentance and reconciliation. Squares the responsibility between both spouses instead of placing an unfair burden on the spouse who has been betrayed to do all the work necessary for restoration of the relationship.

Great book to teach you how to make people like/love you 5 out of 5 stars.
2 of 2 people found this review helpful.

Ok, so I had great hopes for this book, but was worried because the title promised a lot. Actually, its a great book just to make you a better person. It teaches you how to be a better person, to improve your people skills and draw people to you. I can see how it can help you be a better and more likeable person and draw people to you and like you, then some may fall in love with you. I wish the title were different because it sorts of limits the audience with its name.

Insightful ... 4 out of 5 stars.
2 of 2 people found this review helpful.

This book focuses on what to do / say when you're around members of the opposite sex in the hope that they will fall in love with you.

The book offers insightful information and key points to helping encourage and foster a relationship with someone. Many of the things suggested actually work (from personal experience) and do help you get closer to the people you care about. Some of the techniques include finding commonalities and really listening to the person. Using the techniques offered could, I would argue, help you improve your relationship with others (family members, relatives, etc) in your life not just your love interest.

Honestly, though, the only thing I found misleading is the title. You can't MAKE people fall in love with you. This book will definitely help you hold and encourage interest, but if the person's not into you, then there's not a lot you can do to change their mind (see "He's Just Not That Into You").

Overall, the book is well worth the money and really does offer great perspective and insight. You won't be disappointed.

Editorial Review:

Bestselling author Leil Lowndes presents a surefire guide for anyone seeking romantic bliss. How to Make Anyone Fall in Love with You offers 85 techniques based on scientific studies regarding the nature of love, finding potential love partners, making an unforgettable first impression, dodging "love bloopers" and establishing sexual rapport. This well-known author has appeared on more than 200 television shows.

Fascinating Ideas, Infuriating Writing Style 4 out of 5 stars.
5 of 5 people found this review helpful.

Readers who are willing to tolerate labyrinthine sentences and brain-cramping scholarly vocabulary and who already have a working understanding of Freud, Lacan, Foucault, and deconstruction will find in Butler a challenging, highly stimulating theorist of sex, gender, and sexuality.

Readers looking for a breezy and accessible discussion of gender roles in modern society should definitely look elsewhere.

Challenging, but Worth It 3 out of 5 stars.
1 of 1 people found this review helpful.

Judith Butler is one of the most prominent feminist theorists of our times, and her work should be read by anyone who seriously wants to grapple with issues of genderism, bi-genderism, trans-genderism, inter-genderism, and post-genderism. Her challenging writing style is necessary to really let you break out of the binaries that are both constructive and obstructive to our thinking. Butler's central thesis - "that, in a way we are all transvestites" - challenges popularly held views of tranvestite-ism, and destabilizes traditional modes of constructing gender identity. Most people think that they're not transvestites because they do not go out wearing the clothing of the opposite sex. These people need to read this book!

The most subversive thing that one can do in a gendered sociality is to redefine themselves, and hence redefine others, by crossing genderly bound, genderly bounded, and genderly constructed mediations. The mediations both keep us from ourselves and keep us from one another, and in becoming other we transgress and transform these mediations in a constant struggle and constant negotiation for self, society, and bi-individuality.

This book is necessary for anyone living in today's world.

Editorial Review:

Butler examines the 'trouble' with unproblematized appeals to sex/gender identities. She challenges a variety of psychological assumptions about what it means to be a gender and gives re-readings of Lacan, Freud, and Kristeva. This book should be of interest to advanced students of women's studies, gender studies, cultural studies, philosophy.
