This is a mini preview of a parenting method that is amazing. Love and Logic WORKS!! It does not matter the age of the child or behavior of the child...ADHD, to sweet angel. I have used this parenting method on my 10 month old and it works. My sister-in-law introduced me to Love & Logic before I was even a parent to start preparing. I read this book over and over again, along with the many other resources Love & Logic provides. Look up the other books and get them, it will be worth every penny...it will be priceless knowledge!!

Editorial Review:

I have two addictions - kids and psychology. It's pretty easy to figure out why I grew addicted to kids, but with psychology it's less obvious. I became addicted to psychology because I grew up learning how to use power, and I finally got tired of fighting with everybody. In place of power, I'm suggesting some practical and usable tools for parents and teachers that are adapted from formal psychological concepts. I offer them as suggestions. You may chew on all of them, and you don't have to swallow a single one of them whole. I'm not trying to make you feel guilty. I'm not trying to tell you what you're doing wrong with your children. I simply want to share some psychological techniques that raised the quality of my life dramatically. I also want to do this because, for me, sharing these ideas is fun!

Sex Changing Instruction Manual With Blithe Disregard for Safer Sex 4 out of 5 stars.
0 of 0 people found this review helpful.

I read the 2003 paperback edition. Having read previously the 2002 Sexual Selections: What We Can and Can't Learn About Sex from Animals by a liberal feminist biologist, one could get the impression, women can't ejaculate. Reading that, I had had it with false information and ordered this book to make sure. The choice of literature may have been a bit arbitrary, as there are numerous books on the subject available by now (in 2008).

Clearing up the myth of female ejaculatory denial by giving precise and easy-to-handle instructions is worth 5 stars already. I mean, really: Here we are in the age of finding traces of water on Mars, but can't find the well in our lover's or our own vagina! The book touches upon the control of ejaculation without orgasm, orgasm without ejaculation and multiple orgasms in both, females and males. The author doesn't provide instructions for males, though and remains tentative on the ways for males to achieve all of this. Which is partly a good decision, as the one way she is referencing is the Taoist procedure of "inhibitatory ejaculation", which can turn out to be risky to your health, if not adequately taught. And many books which specialize on that issue actually fail to do so. However, there are other and easier ways of "alternative" male orgasm, which she isn't even mentioning. But then again, all of the latter isn't really the content of the book according to its title, so that's ok.

Chapter 7 claims to be for both: Male and female lovers of women, but on a closer look I would say, it's not REALLY going beyond heterosexuality. I am a bit sceptic that you would have to take anything out of the vagina for ejaculation in every single case. For sure, she doesn't write anything about the possibility of female ejaculation via sole or added anal stimulation. The book is mildly repetitive and might have suffered not too much without the sex kitsch fiction included here and there, though I wasn't really bothered by that either.

I seriously considered subtracting more than one star for the blatant disregard for safer sex. The main reason why I ordered this book was actually to find out, wether the female ejaculate carries the HI-virus or not. As of 2003, according to the author, no studies have been done. Which is a scandal, but hardly the author's fault. Yet, there wasn't really a study of the consistency of the female ejaculate either. That didn't stop the author from carrying it into a lab for analysis. Which begs for the question, why she didn't carry an HIV-positive female's ejaculate to the lab, too, for analysis. Recognizing the lack of such studies, she's is giving the following (PSEUDO) safer sex advice: If you are HIV positive, tell you lover! That advice (alone) is problematic on so many levels, including that many HIV-positives don't know that they carry the virus, but are especially virulent shortly after their own infection, that I have to complain most vehemently against that ill advice and the tip to "flood your sweetie's mouth". It gets worse still when she writes about stains on the bedsheet during parts of the menstrual cycle. She doesn't really specify, what causes these stains, but by all available suggestion, she's referring to menstrual blood. If not, she is making the mistake of not clarifying that. Her advice for the lover against such stains: "Gulp it down", for "swallowing could be the tidiest option available". If this book and similar ones with the same utter neglect for safer sex turn the public into a wave of stained female ejaculate gulpers, the AIDS pandemic has the potential of reaching new and unseen peaks.

I know this criticism is a downer. The message is: Enjoy the new found ecstasy and engage in it responsibly. Till the time, studies of stained and unstained female ejaculate have been proven as harmless as saliva or a male's precum, act wise and refrain from mucous membrane contact with it.

Editorial Review:

Like men, women also can ejaculate, enhancing and intensifying their sexual pleasure. In an open, positive style, Deborah Sundahl presents information about female ejaculation including scientific findings, anatomical illustrations, historical accounts, a chapter on how men can help their female partners to ejaculate, and women’s and men’s experiences collected during the past two decades.

This is an awesome book to give to people before they are married. It takes the false expectations and preconceived ideas out of the picture and replaces them with truth and honesty.

The Gift of Sex: A Guide to Sexual Fulfillment 5 out of 5 stars.
3 of 3 people found this review helpful.

A very positive presentation of the marital sexual relationship as a gift from God. It is thorough and addresses details and issues about which most people do not know what to think or even how to go about considering them. It is professional as well as considerate in its presentation. While the authors approach the subject from a Christian perspective, it is not necessary for the reader to embrace this viewpoint in order to find the book truly helpful. If you have not read a book on the marital sexual relationship, you ought to read this one. If you have read other books, I think you will be pleased with this addition. I use this book with couples whom I see for marriage counseling.

Editorial Review:

Clifford and Joyce Penner, clinical therapist and nurse have written a sensitive and forthright guide to understanding sexuality and how it fits into God's design for marriage. With the latest information on sexuality and intimacy, this best-selling book is ideal whether you are newlyweds or have been married for many years.

John Gray Should Not Be Giving Bedroom Advice 1 out of 5 stars.
1 of 2 people found this review helpful.

In the words of my husband, "This guy [John Gray] has an agenda. You've got to feel bad for his wife."

After reading this book together, both my husband and I were very disappointed. My husband was really insulted that Gray made men out to be sex machines who require an orgasm in order to love and feel. I was upset that women were characterized as essentially sexless, needing our male counterparts to coax us into having intercourse. Even more annoying though, Gray devalues female orgasms almost completely, and at no time is it appropriate for a woman to decline sex. Of course women should make the attempt to pleasure their men (most will want to), but Gray has the idea that women should give it to their lovers anytime, anywhere. Seriously, I can picture Gray explaining that a woman in labor can just give her husband/boyfriend a quickie if he's feeling frisky and she's just not in the mood given that she's giving birth and all. On the other hand, according to Gray, it's hard for a man to say no to sex, so if he does, a woman should take care of things herself.

Gray's views on a loving sexual relationship were too one-sided and extreme for my husband and I. We really don't think Gray should be giving bedroom advice, nor does he seem qualified to be. (FYI: Google Gray's educational background. It's a joke. The school he received his PhD from no longer exists. Too bad I didn't realize this until we had already bought and read the book).

Editorial Review:

With his #1 "New York Times" bestseller "Men Are from Mars, Women Are from Venus," John Gray, Ph.D. helped millions of couples develop loving, nurturing relationships. Now Gray examines the place in a relationship where communication is most needed and most often lacking: the bedroom. Read it with your partner and launch your love life into orbit!

To Live is to Love 5 out of 5 stars.
2 of 2 people found this review helpful.

"Most people see the problem of love primarily as that of being loved, rather than that of loving, of one's capacity to love. Hence the problem to them is how to be loved, not how to love." -Eric Fromm, The Art of Loving

I picked up this book by chance at the Miami Dade County Book Fair. I had heard of Fromm briefly in my psychology class, and thought this little book (the actual text not more than 130 pages) would be a great companion to another book I picked up on love in Shakespeare's plays. Judging by his background psychology, I prepared myself for The Art of Loving to turn out like many other psychoanalytic books tend to be: a small book that would take an unimaginable amount of time to read. However, it was quite the contrary; what I encountered in this small book was an eye-opening experienced that made me aware of both my accomplishments and my failures in life. I found myself reading the book from cover to cover, flipping it over and starting again.

As I read (and reread) the book felt like Fromm was talking directly to me, as if he and I were sitting down and having an in-depth conversation on love's role in my life. Fromm touches on all forms of love from parental love, to brotherly (neighborly) love, to erotic love, to love of God, and to self love, which he specifically explains is very different from narcissism. He speaks of the problem in the Western world's concept of love as a temporary gratification and a purely selfish act and discusses how to rectify it by attempting to invert what is seen and practiced in the world by learning to live in love, hinging it on the art of giving of oneself.

However, do not expect, as Fromm states in the first section of this book, that you will find a step by step guide on `how to love'. This book is more of an awareness of what love is and how humanity does not love. It very much reveals yourself to yourself, and shows you how love is verb not a noun (thus an art and not a name). It is something you have to do constantly, not wait for it to come to you. As Fromm says, "What are the necessary steps in learning any art? One, mastery of the theory; two, mastery of the practice." For Fromm love is the answer to human existence and one must first learn to love oneself before he can attempt to love others. It is a self-changing experience.

Great Book 5 out of 5 stars.

I was a little on the fence about this book because I really didnt think it would help. We are not married yet, but this book has helped a lot to see each other out in the open. It has also showed us what the other thinks about us and what we can work on as a couple.

A MUST FOR COUPLES WHO ARE ENGAGED! 5 out of 5 stars.

Saving Your Marriage Before It Starts is the pre-marital book and companion workbooks our church uses with all our couples who plan to be married. A "season" couple goes through the book with the engaged couple, meeting many times the 6 months prior to their wedding. This mentoring process has proved to be a wonderful experience for both couples, and times together carry on well past the wedding day. The newlyweds now have a couple that have invested time with them, other than their parents, which has been a blessing to them.

Learning about each other 5 out of 5 stars.
12 of 12 people found this review helpful.

You will definitely need the actual book to use the workbooks. My fiance and I have been working through the lessons and are about halfway through the workbooks. The best thing about the exercises is that there are so many things about my future wife that I didn't know, especially in regards to how she thinks and feels about certain aspects of life. We are becoming closer as we're beginning to understand each other at a deeper level. I'm learning more about how women communicate and how they really aren't able to come to grips with exactly how we operate either. The exercises vary from childhood influences to budgeting to love languages. We look forward to each time we work through the lessons. I highly recommend them for any couple preparing for marriage.
