Editorial Review:

How many times have you heard a teacher say that your child has tremendous potential "if only he'd just apply himself" or "if only sh'd work just a little harder"? How often have you said the same thing to your son or daughter? Or perhaps you have a coworker who can't seem to finish anything; his reports are never in on time, or her projects are always behind the schedule. No matter what excusses you hear, you suspect that laziness is the real reason for your colleague's low productivity.

Almost no one is actually lazy, says Dr. Mel Levine, author of the #1 national bestseller A Mind at a Time. Low productivity -- whether in school or on the job -- is almost always caused by a genuine problem, a neurodevelopmental dysfunction. despite this, untold number of people have been stigmatized by unfair accusations of laziness, many of them adults who still carry emotional scars from their school days. In The Myth of Laziness Dr. Levine shows how we can spot the neurodevelopmental dysfunctions that may cause "output failure," as he calls it, whether in school or in the workplace. Dr. Levine identifies seven forms of dysfunctions that obstruct output. Drawning on his years of clinical experience he describes eight people -- children, adolescents, and adults -- he has worked with who exhibited one or another of these problems. He shows how identifying the problem can make all the difference, leading to a course of corrective action rather than to accusations of laziness and moral failure.

With its practical advice and its compassionate tone, The Myth of Laziness shows parents how to nurture their child strengths and improve their classroom productivity. Most important, it shows parents how correcting these problems in childhood will help children live a fulfilling and productive adult life.

Koko has become my daughter's favorite book. The book answers the questions that she has, validates her feelings and focuses on the issues that she is concerned about-pick up and drop off, dinner, bedtime. It is well written and perfect for 5-7 year old children. I was recommended Dinosaur Divorce by several people (without children)-my daughter is not ready for learning about stepparents or money issues. Koko bear is just what we were looking for.

Excellent book!!! 5 out of 5 stars.

This book has been wonderful for discussing divorce in a nurturing way with a 5 year old. It is a favorite at bedtime, and is well written for young children. I highly recommend it for anyone who needs to answer childrens' questions about divorce.

My pediatrician recommended this book when I expressed concerns over power struggles I was having with my daughter. Initially I took the book out of the library - then had to buy it because frankly - I can't do without it now.

From Organizing from the Inside Out for Teens:

Jessi Says

What's My Payoff?
My bedroom is my home base and keeping it organized is a must. If my room isn't in solid condition, it's difficult to keep the rest of my life on track. Here are some other reasons that motivate me to keep my room organized:
- My room is the only space on the entire planet that is solely mine.
- My organized room allows me to maximize my space and time.
- My room boosts my confidence.
- My room gives others (especially my mom!) confidence in me.
- Organizing my room allows me to do what I want, when I want.

This book is very informative. It answered a lot of questions that I had about female sexuality--the kind of questions I don't even feel comfortable asking my close female friends about. I had never experienced an orgasm prior to reading this book, and I didn't think it would ever happen for me--I thought I was inorgasmic. This books points out that I was pre-orgasmic--and what do you know, I was about halfway into the book when I crossed over. I am now able to orgasm fairly regularly!

Excellent resource for families and schools 5 out of 5 stars.
4 of 4 people found this review helpful.

There are many books on the topic of gifted and talented children as it relates to their education and needs. However, I found this book addressed the gifted child from many different aspects. It touched upon their academic and social-emotional needs. It provides parents with great insight into these children in terms of how they think, characteristics that are common and the dangers of mis-diagnosing gifted children with disorders such as ADHD. It is easy to read straight through but is also set up in such a way that a particular section of interest can stand alone. I had purchased this book for my own use and then purchased 7 more to present to our local Board of Education. Our district did not have a program for gifted and talented children on the elementary level. With this book in conjunction with other research a small group of parents and myself presented an entire packet to our Board of Ed. to make a case for this much needed program. We were successful. The program was added to our district's curriculum for next year. This book helped greatly to help us navigate and advocate for our children. Much recommended.

Editorial Review:

Parents learn what giftedness is (and isn't), how kids are identified as gifted, how to live with their gifted children, how to prevent perfectionism, when to get help, how to advocate for their children's education, and much more

Not sure if this book saved me or my two year old!! hahaha. 5 out of 5 stars.
4 of 4 people found this review helpful.

It was overnight that I swore a body snatcher had taken over my very well behaved 2 year old! This book saved either me or my two year old, I'm not sure. I truly was pulling my hair out and didn't know what to do. This book doesn't just tell you what you should do, and then when the time comes you want to do it, but aren't quite sure how to get from point A to C.

This book breaks it down step by step. Example, a two year old and younger will not stay in time out. I would be fighting to hold my son down. The book suggests that when you go to put the child in time out the minute you step back you tell them "they can get up now". Now they're not getting up because they want to, but because you gave them permission. Boom, you just took back the "power"! Then the author takes it from that step to the next and on until where your 2 year old will do a timeout just because you tell them to, without a fight! This book gives you real life examples, and takes you step by step! It really was amazing how after reading this book I felt that I was in control and could handle it. When I had confidence, my child responded and he became well behaved again! No screaming, no fighting. When the parent is in calm control, the situation stays in calm control, and the child feels safe and responds.

This book is great for a parent of an 18 month old on up. The author gives real life situations and step-by-step for older children as well.
There is an abundance of information in this book, you don't have to agree with everything in it, but no matter what style parenting you use, I think anyone will be able to use the majority of what this book has to offer. I find myself referring back to it at different stages of my children's life!

Editorial Review:

"Is your sex life perfect?" challenges Laura Corn in the introduction to her delightful and unique 101 Nights of Grrreat Sex. If the title, with its guarantee of "grrreat sex twice a week, every week, for one full year!" won't tempt you, the packaging will. Like the cover says, "Go ahead, tear this book up.... please!" Intriguingly packaged, 101 Nights is reminiscent of the book-in-plain-brown-wrapper, except in this case each page is sealed; no peeking! Once a week, according to 101's instructions, each lover picks a sealed page (with scenarios such as "Up Against the Wall," "Angel with a Lariat," "Fire down Below," and "Point of No Return") and tears it out of the book, keeping it a secret. Follow the scenario and, throughout the week, expect any number of erotic surprises.

We let life get in the way of love, Laura Corn states, and worries in the way of wonder. At the heart of this book is the assertion that surprise and anticipation rekindle passion: "This is not like some new diet, where you're expected to simply change your lifestyle overnight. Here, you'll learn by doing--slowly, gradually, month by month. And because you're doing it often--every week, remember, for a whole year--you'll actually turn interesting, exhilarating, unpredictable sex into a habit, and not just a special event."

There are 50 secret seductions written for his eyes only and 50 written for hers. His seductions begin with playful ways of not just getting her in the mood, but making her breathless with anticipation. Hers begin with the revelation of "Marilyn Monroe's sensual bedroom secret that drove her lovers wild (and caused JFK's toes to curl!)."

All it takes is a commitment to play and, well, to tear up the book. 101 Nights does all the rest, including lists of ingredients (massage oil, silk scarf, champagne, etc.) as well as terse tips culled from 54 of the bestselling books in the field. Loaded with recipes for licentious loving, 101 Nights of Grrreat Sex gives lovers permission to sin with the safety of a script and a fun way to palpate the old passion.

Sanity saver 4 out of 5 stars.
1 of 1 people found this review helpful.

I foolishly thought the advise in 'What to expect..' was the only way to go. It made sense to me as I was about to be a first time mother.

A child can't be spoiled by being held too much.
Every time the infant shows hunger cues, feed him. Fist sucking, crying is a late cue. I was always feeding him. *Turns out our son was trying to suck his thumb, but was too young to stick it out and keep it steady.

My husbands family used/uses Baby Wise and had recommended it to me before my son's birth. Boy should I have listened. At 2 1/2 months my son and I were a complete wreck!!

The constant holding and soothing all day long made a child that cried whenever he was put down. Or cried when repositioned a couple inches to make the person holding him more comfortable.
The demand feeding made me completely "available" to him at all times.
He was exhausted and fussy all the time!

It wasn't working for either of us. I ran out and found a copy of Baby Wise. Within days our lives were better. The biggest change for us was reversing the order eat/wake/sleep. We don't write down the times that each step is supposed to happen. We write down the times they did, so that we can see what his possible needs are. Flex is the key. This happy giggly baby emerged.

I can leave my son with his dad- no bottle needed. I used to dread getting in the shower because my son would wake up screaming mid way through...the list goes on...well, not anymore.

I didn't do this flex schedule for selfish reasons; it wasn't all about making his life convenient for me. He was miserable!!

Naps enable him to enjoy several hours a day set aside for his entertainment/development. I can't say it enough that flex is the key. If he wants to spend his "wake time" in the swing dozing on and off; it's all good. If a snack is needed after play time it's given. His needs are never ignored to keep the schedule. I'm way more intune to my son with PDF than demand feeding.

I hope that someone looking for answers doesn't pass this method up because of the negative reviews. Frankly, I would have if I'd read them before using it.
Happy healthy (95% in all catagories) baby = happy family
