This book of new family traditions is so reader-friendly and so comfortable to pick up and browse that I can hardly get my copy out of the hands of my co-workers...The presentation and style are perfect for the topic and the information presented is easy to digest and creative enough to encourage our own ideas on the topic. This book is ideal for new parents but even us older parents of teenagers. This should be on the bookshelf of every one who cares about family or has one and wants to celebrate that special and loving relationship!

Editorial Review:

Families will treasure this collection of rituals and traditions for many occasions, from such personal milestones as a child's first day of school or a teenager's new driver's license to mainstream holidays, birthdays, and anniversaries. Special celebrations in a warm family setting help foster self-esteem and creativity, open up communication channels, and may even entice older children to stay at the dinner table a little longer. Such cherished events can be as simple as a Sunday lunch orchestrated by the kids. Each ritual is inspired by those of real families. Their stories are shared, along with practical instructions on how to implement and tailor the ritual to one's own family. All it takes is organziation, imagination, and a willingness to resist outside interference for a few precious moments.

Team Challenges: 170+ Group Activities to Build Cooperation, Communication, and Creativity
It is a very thorough set of games for many purposes. Creative use of very common materials make it a treasure for facilitators, educators and managers conducting training and or meetings. I found very useful games regarding team building, communication, energizing physical activities and the like.

Upbeet, Creative, Fun! 5 out of 5 stars.

I am a therapist at a child and adolescent day treatment for kids with emotional and behavioral issues. It can be difficult to find activities that seem to motivate and energize the kids. They enjoyed many of the activities in this book. The activities are very hands-on and involve a lot of working together to build things out of all kinds of everyday materials. I highly recommend this book.

A wide variety of great ideas. 5 out of 5 stars.

The book is a great tool for your own children, birthday parties, classrooms and it's also a perfect teacher gift!

52 playful and easy to understand activites to hhelp parents teach children moral lessons that they won't forget

A child says, "I hear and I forget, I see and I remember, I do and I understand." 10-Minute Life Lessons for Kids is a book about seeing and doing--a book that gives parents the ability to teach the powerful principles of honesty, trust, generosity, love, and other values. Children will discover the objectives themselves as they actively participate in fun games and activities.

The games can be done in any order, with very little planning and with very few supplies--just common objects most people have around the house like toothpicks, string, pennies, or an apple. Some can be done while riding in the car, and others can be expanded to fill a whole evening with family fun. The activities in 10-Minute Life Lessons for Kids will not only create cozy and enjoyable moments of family togetherness, they will have a lasting impact on your growing child.

Good but check the age range and content carefully 3 out of 5 stars.
1 of 1 people found this review helpful.

I ordered two of these for six year olds but ended up putting them aside for older children. I'd say eight or ten would be the youngest. Also, I was surprised that one page asks the children to draw what they think God looks like. I'm not totally comfortable giving that as a gift. I believe there was also a question about a crime and another about someone they hated. I hope most six year olds don't hate anyone yet. I'm not sure I even want them thinking about it. Anyway, just keep this in mind before you buy. The concept is great, but not sure about the product.

This is one terrific book! 5 out of 5 stars.
1 of 0 people found this review helpful.

The subtitle says it all: "Making Memories with Your Grandchildren: a world away...or next door."

This book won the National Parenting Publications Gold Award, and was selected as "Outstanding" by the Parent Council.

For anyone who has grandchildren living somewhere else (as I do--over 2000 miles away!), this is one terrific book!

The authors quote: "Grandparenting is a gift between two people at opposite ends of their journey." Alex Haley said, "Grandparents...sprinkle stardust in our eyes." If your desire is to bridge the distance from your heart to your grandchild's, here's a book to help.

It's full of ideas galore: how to keep in touch when they're out of reach; how to make their visit to your home enriching and memorable; how to make your visit to theirs restful and fun.

Do you need ideas for crafts? Plenty here! Do you need creative ways to keep in touch by mail? Peek inside. Almost 300 pages of creative help, with extensive lists of books for children (and for grandparents!). A good index makes finding that gem you came across last week findable again.

I like this book. It's motivating and it's practical.

Editorial Review:

Selected as "Outstanding" by Parent Council, Grandloving is a comprehensive, upbeat sourcebook that offers over 200 inexpensive and fun activities for grandparents to do with or mail to their grandchildren. It highlights tips from 350 families worldwide, heartfelt ideas for holidays, visits, and family traditions, reminders about child development, help for grandparents caring for their grandchildren, an extensive list of resources and book reviews, as well as helpful logos, 95 illustrations, and an easy-to-use 7 page index. Whether you live near to or far from your grandchildren, you'll grow closer to them as you use Grandloving's creative ideas to become the grandparent every child wants!

This is a GREAT resource book! 5 out of 5 stars.
46 of 46 people found this review helpful.

I found this gem at the library, now I'm going to buy a copy for myself! There are so many great ideas in here! I've read other books on the subject but haven't been very impressed. These ideas are practical, inexpensive, and clever. It includes recipes for things like playdough, and instructions for making your own affordable alternatives. Karen Miller had spent over twenty years in the business when this was written and it really shows in this wonderful, thoughtful book.

SUPER Ideas for Parents! 5 out of 5 stars.
16 of 16 people found this review helpful.

I wish I could give this book six stars instead of five! I have a 22-month-old daughter and wanted to find new, creative ways to interact with her while also teaching her important skills. I discovered this book while browsing on Amazon one day and was thrilled at the various, numerous ideas it offers! Best of all, you don't have to buy special materials to do most of these activities; they require simple objects you probably already have in your home. For instance, Miller provides recipes for homemade fingerpaint, shares instructions on how to make shape-matching games, and tells how to create a picture file to expand a child's understanding of categories. This book is a must-read for parents who want to stimulate their toddler's mind!

Editorial Review:

A great asset to any professional or home library, this new edition presents a clear overview of development, and the challenges and delights of 'running with toddlers.' Karen's warmth, wisdom, humor, and respect for young children shine through in this wonderful book for home or daycare.

Editorial Review:

As we witness the shifting of old forms that once stood as the foundation of our daily lives, parents—who must prepare the next generation to meet this changing world—have more questions now than ever before. Although our culture and the nature of the family may be changing, the atmosphere in the home continues to create the foundation of a child’s life. In Heaven on Earth, parent and educator Sharifa Oppenheimer reveals how to make the home environment warm, lively, loving, and consistent with your highest ideals.

Heaven on Earth balances theoretical understanding of child development with practical ideas, resources, and tips that can transform family life. Readers will learn how to establish the life rhythms that lay the foundation for all learning; how to design indoor play environments that allow children the broadest skills development; and how to create backyard play spaces that encourage vigorous movement and a wide sensory palette. Through art, storytelling, and the festival celebrations, this book is a guide to build a "family culture" based on the guiding principle of love. Such a culture supports children and allows the free development of each unique soul.

Responding to parents’ questions from more than twenty years of teaching, Oppenheimer has created a gift from the heart. This is a practical, inspiring resource that brings her informed, intuitive understanding of young children into the heart of the home.
