Loved this book!!! 5 out of 5 stars.

This is a great book, and a I disagree with the reviews that claim you have to live in Malibu and have actress friends to like this book. I live in a small town, and everyone I know loved this book. I read this book during my first pregnancy 11 years ago and it made me laugh and feel better, I read it during my second pregnancy 3 years ago, and I am now on my third pregnancy and I am reading it again. This is a great book for anyone who is down to earth and not afraid to laugh at yourself. Yes the fashion tips our a little outdate, but you should be able to get some humor out of what the fashion was 15 years ago. If you are looking for fashion advice I suggest picking up a current Pregnancy Magazine.

Editorial Review:

Beginning with the "10 Greatest Lies About Pregnancy" (number 10: Lamaze works), and ending with postpartum dementia, Vicki Iovine's Girlfriends' Guide to Pregnancy has fast become the laywoman's mouthpiece for the American pregnancy experience. Iovine is irreverent, sassy, and incredibly reassuring as she exposes the "truths" of pregnancy and childbirth, from sex to cellulite to cesareans. Iovine birthed four kids in six years, none of them twins, which certainly qualifies her as an expert. The Girlfriends' Guide to Pregnancy does reveal Iovine's particular cultural biases (pregnant or not, most of us don't have record-producer husbands, hang out with supermodels, or wear size-four pants) and philosophical beliefs (she's not a particularly strong proponent of natural childbirth or nursing), but, taken with a grain or two of salt, she provides many hilarious moments, acres of advice, and honest reassurance readers will find nowhere else. --Ericka Lutz

Love it! 4 out of 5 stars.

Just perfect to keep my toddler' activities on track. I had purchased one last year (2008), and now one for the next. The calender comes with stickers which are fun to use. The boxes in each calender month are fair sized so daily activities can be written comfortably. There are slots for different family members' activities/notes too. It has whimsical drawings & is colorful.

Editorial Review:

A superstar, just like Mom herself. What is it about this bestselling calendar? Is it those irresistible cows, hippos, chicks, penguins, and piggies skipping and prancing through the pages? Or is it the innovative and ultra-practical wall-calendar-meets-planner format? Yes...and yes! It's the whole package: a calendar that looks great and is indispensable for families on the go. Mom’s starts in September and runs 16 full months. Spreads feature an oversized, vertical grid with five columns across (one for each family member) and the days of the month running down the left side. With just a glance, Mom and Dad can see who is doing what, and when. Includes a new drop-down storage pocket, plus 500 stickers and a write-on, wipe-off magnetic phone list for the fridge.

Editorial Review:

This is a story about the year I exploded into flames. Which turns out to be more common than you’d think, among forty-something humans. Yea, we can hold it together in our thirties, with a raft of hair products and semi-tall nonfat half-caf beverages and much brisk walking to a lot of interesting appointments. Come the forties, though, cracks begin to appear. One staggers suddenly along life’s path; gourmet coffee splats; the wig slips askew. In other words, my friends, THE WHEELS COME OFF.

Sandra Tsing Loh is the fiercest, funniest, and most incredibly honest and self-deprecating voice to emerge from the “mommy war” debates. In Mother on Fire, she fires away with her trademark hilarious satire of societal and personal irks large and small, including limo liberals who preach the virtues of public school but send their children to fashionable private ones, the proliferation of costly skin-care products that just don’t cut it, society’s obsession with aromatherapy, her Chinese father’s disdain for her life as an artist, and $10 Target pants (“Are they running pants, exercise pants, pajama pants?”) that are the ubiquitous Mother of Small Children uniform.

Prompted by her own midlife crisis, Loh throws her frantic energy not into illicit affairs, shopping binges, or exotic trips, but into the harrowing heart of contemporary, dysfunctional L.A. life when she realizes that she can’t afford private school for her daughter, and her only alternative is her neighborhood’s public school, Guavatorina, where most of the kids speak Spanish and qualify for free lunches. In a theater-of-the-absurd-style odyssey, Mother on Fire documents Loh’s “year of living dangerously” among pompous school admissions officials, lactose-intolerant, Prius-driving parents, mafia dons of public radio, vindictive bosses, and old friends with new money as she first kisses ass—and then kicks it.

Can't live without it! 5 out of 5 stars.
3 of 3 people found this review helpful.

I have the '07-'08 version of this calendar and searched the internet to find the new one for the upcoming year. I have 3 kids and I don't think I can ever go back to a regular calendar - cramming in everybody's activities into a regular calendar box. My kids (ages 6,4,2) know how to read the calendar and can keep track of their own upcoming activities. My oldest even checks her line for "gym" days at school on her own to know when to wear gym shoes.

Bad Title - Great Book 5 out of 5 stars.
2 of 2 people found this review helpful.

- Biblical parenting
- Tosses worldly parenting methods (such as counting to 3) out the window
- Gives tons of Scripture references for following God's instructions for parenting
- Gives parents ways to help the child evaluate his/her own motives for behavior, encouraging children to keep motives and behaviors in line with God's instructions for living
- Helps child move from pleasing parents to pleasing God - preparing them to be independent Christians, outside of the umbrella of parent's control and moving to an awareness of accountability to God
- Appendix includes discussions on becoming a Christian (false Christian vs. true Christian), leading your child to Christ, and praying for your child

Great Book on Disciplined Parenting 5 out of 5 stars.
0 of 0 people found this review helpful.

I just bought this book and I am already nearly done with it. I have learned much about myself as a parent while reading. It has been eye opening. I can already see a difference in my children because I have changed. The book teaches parents how to be more disciplined and thorough in teaching their children and how to bring God into every aspect of parenting. I highly recommend it.

AbSoLuTe BEST calendar around!!! 5 out of 5 stars.
4 of 4 people found this review helpful.

This is the absolute best calendar around. I've been using this calendar for about 7 years now. I love the fact that it starts in August and goes through the following December, allowing me to match it up with the school year but shedding me some grace if I "forget" to get it in August or get too busy to start using it before school starts. There are two pages for each week with a tear off column for each week for a grocery list on the left and the week's menus on the right....or you can use the two tear offs for whatever you'd like. There is also an ample half a page for "To Do" information, notes, etc. (The tear offs allow you to tear off the column for shopping purposes, etc., and to send you to the current week quickly. There are also pages for notes, addresses, children's friends, restaurants, babysitter notes, emergency contacts, servies (doctor, etc) in the back; along with a list of the holidays, stickers to flag the pages for everything from birthdays, dr/DDS appts, meetings, 1st/last day of school, meetings, tickelers, etc. The cover is made of sturdy laminated cardstock and there's a good size pocket in the front. Buy this baby with confidence. You are sure to keep coming back again & again.

wonderful pictures but need updating 3 out of 5 stars.

Wonderful book amazing to see detailed pictures of the baby. Great for showing your children what is going on in your body. Other pictures are dated and need to be updated to this decade.

A Child Is Born 5 out of 5 stars.

A+ new edition of a book that I originally purchased when my son was born 29 years ago. I purchased the updated version for him and his wife. It is excellent! I recommend for all new parents and/or grandparents to give as a gift to their children.

A classic 5 out of 5 stars.

I bought this book 27 years ago when I was expecting my first child and when my daughter told me she was planning a family, I immediately purchased the updated version for her. This book remains a classic! The pictures are unbelievable and so beautiful and vivid. Because it's a European book, the childbirth pictures may be more graphic than what we are used to here in the States, but look beyond that to see the beauty and wonder of childbirth depicted in this amazing book. I highly recommend it!

Editorial Review:

This completely revised edition of the beloved international classic is now entirely in color, with historic, never-before-seen photos in every chapter and an entirely new text.

Editorial Review:

Jenny McCarthy’s hilarious, no-holds-barred personality has made her an instantly recognizable TV personality and a bestselling author. In Baby Laughs she examines the full range of challenges that new mothers face, including:
• The humiliations of postnatal “numbing spray,” Tucks medicated pads, and adult diapers; jelly belly, balding, and gum disease; and becoming a “five-foot puke rag” for the baby
• Heart-stopping terrors, such as baby manicures, breathing checks, and burp failures
• Inadequacies, such as lullaby illiteracy and the need for a “heavy rotation” of toys, videos, and mobiles
• Daddy antics, such as infant wrestling, home-movie mania, sleeping like a log, and expecting sex
• Dueling grandmas, germ-ridden guests, Olympic-class competitive mommies, anorexic pets— and much more.

Mothers and fathers will find much-needed relief and insight in this sometimes touching, sometimes gritty, but always perceptive and outrageously funny account of what it truly means to have your very own small bundle of joy.
