Editorial Review:

Invisibility is inflicted upon mothers. By the nature of the job their faces disappear and their work is anonymous. They become hands, building and shaping, fashioning and carving. But what if mothers saw their role like a builder working on one of the great cathedrals?

One day a man showed up on the construction site of one of the great cathedrals and saw a builder carving a tiny bird into a beam that would eventually be covered over by the roof. Puzzled, the man asked the worker, "Why are you putting so much time and effort into something no one will ever see?" It is reported that the builder replied, "Because God sees."

The Invisible Woman is a moving story, a sketch performed by Nicole Johnson at the WOF conferences, that affirms women in their often unseen daily chores for their families. It includes a dedication page with the inscription: With admiration for the greatness of what you are building, when only God sees. It is sure to become a treasured gift by mothers and grandmothers everywhere.

Encouraging! 5 out of 5 stars.
7 of 7 people found this review helpful.

I love the way Barbara and Susan are upbeat and encouraging. Even when they talk about the downside (and they do talk about the downside) of the empty nest years, they do so with an attitude of hope and encouragment. Especially helpful are the suggestions on finding out who you are once you separate your identity from your children's and then discovering what to do with yourself in a meaningful way for the many years you probably have left to make a difference on this earth. A great read, whether your kids are gone or just getting ready to leave.

Editorial Review:

You're done . . . but you're not finished! And one more thing. You're not alone. Feeling unsure? Scared? Expectant? Maybe even giddy? Is your nest empty--except for a bundle of mixed emotions? As you grieve what's behind and daydream about possibilities, you'll feel young again, ready for new challenges and adventures. Yet you may not know what to pursue or how to discover what's next. Many women in this season of life wonder: Who am I now? And what should I do? How will my marriage be affected? Does anyone need me? How do I relate to my children? Is it okay to feel sad? Or thrilled? What's next?

Barbara and Susan can be the friends you need to walk you through these new experiences. They'll guide you to answers, and together you'll discover a new purpose and passion for your next life adventure.

Good book 4 out of 5 stars.

This was our first book we read for our newly formed Bible Study/ Women's Book club at our church. It was a hit and everybody thoroughly enjoyed it. There was a chapter or two that was just "ok", but the rest of it made a lot of sense. Our book club is mostly new moms or moms with younger children.

ok 4 out of 5 stars.

There were some good things in this one. I did keep it after I was done reading it but it wasn't as deep as I had hoped it would be.

fantastic book! 5 out of 5 stars.

This is a wonderful book. A most read for all moms who want to encourage their children to be positive and to live a Christan life. It is an easy read and very uplifting!

WOW!!! 5 out of 5 stars.

Great read!!! Not only is this full of scriptures, but it has wonderful ideas to put into action for your family. My only problem is that sometimes the author assumes all of the readers are married with children, thus leaving out us single moms, but I still got a lot out of the book.

Editorial Review:

Combining humor, honesty, and plainspoken advice, Momma Zen distills the doubts and frustrations of parenting into vignettes of Zen wisdom.

Drawing on her experience as a first-time mother, and on her years of Zen meditation and study, Miller explores how the daily challenges of parenthood can become the most profound spiritual journey of our lives.

This compelling and wise memoir follows the timeline of early motherhood from pregnancy through toddlerhood. Momma Zen takes readers on a transformative journey, charting a mother’s growth beyond naive expectations and disorientation to finding fulfillment in ordinary tasks, developing greater self-awareness and acceptance—to the gradual discovery of “maternal bliss,” a state of abiding happiness and ease that is available to us all.

In her gentle and reassuring voice, Karen Miller convinces us that ancient and authentic spiritual lessons can be as familiar as a lullaby, as ordinary as pureed peas, and as frequent as a sleepless night. She offers encouragement for the hard days, consolation for the long haul, and the lightheartedness every new mom needs to face the crooked path of motherhood straight on.

Laugh Out Loud 5 out of 5 stars.

How can I articulate in words what this book meant to me? I met the author today, a LOVELY lady after I read this book a few months back. This book was many things : hilarious, informative, easy read, honest and just plain old fun! If you like the Jenny McCarthy books - you will LOVE this book!!! For women, due to lack of sleep, need some common sense in their lives - this is the book for you. For those who have the clairty to see past the fog - this book makes you feel not alone!!! And perhaps, like I, you can even learn a few things, I did! Thank you Claudine for taking 15 years out of your life to write this book (and raise 3 kids)! I hope you will write another one - about toddlers, tweens and teenagers - so I know what I am up against!!!!

Editorial Review:

This fun, honest, reflective and prescriptive guide for the new mother will actually make new motherhood easier. Interviews with hundreds of moms and the author's personal experience, come together as this fun book breaks new ground with its honesty and humor mixed with practical strategies to give new moms a "leg-up" on the very often scary experience of motherhood. Through the conversation style, this book drives home the point that new moms are not alone and that there are some things they can try to make new motherhood a little more controllable and a lot more enjoyable. The index for easy reference and the resources for further exploration creates a valuable book to be read, and then read again as new mother "opportunities" arise.

"It Gets Easier! And Other Lies We Tell New Mothers, gives new moms uncensored advice they won't find anywhere else. Claudine tells it like it really is, with honesty and humor!" - Amy Tiemann, Ph. D., author of the award-winning Mojo Mom

The comprehensive guide for single women interested in proactively becoming and being a mother—includes the essential tools needed to decide whether to take this step, information on how best to follow through, and insight about answering the child's questions and needs over time.

Choosing Single Motherhood, written by a longtime journalist and Choice Mother (a woman who chooses to conceive or adopt without a life partner), will become the indispensable tool for women looking for both support and insight. Based on extensive up-to-date research, advice from child experts and family therapists, as well as interviews with more than one hundred single women, this book explores

• common questions and concerns of women facing this decision, including: Can I afford to do this? Should I wait longer to see if life turns a new corner? How do Choice Mothers handle the stress of solo parenting?
• what the research says about growing up in a single-parent household
• how to answer a child's "daddy" questions
• the facts about adoption, anonymous donor insemination, and finding a known donor
• how the children of pioneering Choice Mothers feel about their lives

Written in a lively style that never sugarcoats or sweeps problems under the rug, Choosing Single Motherhood covers the topic clearly, concisely, and with a great deal of heart.

A refreshing book that both mothers and daughters will love! 5 out of 5 stars.
24 of 25 people found this review helpful.

This book is a true one-of-a-kind. Open, honest, and real, this book is full of practical ways that mothers and daughters can learn from each other to create a strong and loving relationship during the teen years. Each chapter begins with a true senerio that all mothers and daughters can relate to, (like the desire for body-piercings, learning/teaching to drive, dating/boys, etc.) then Judy and Amanda take time sharing each of their perspectives on the situation. The wonderful thing about this book is that it has both the mother's and the daughter's voice. The book is also beautifully designed on the inside with quotes, interesting facts, quizes and activites for mothers and daughters to enjoy together. I gaurentee that all teenage girls and their mothers will love this book!

Editorial Review:

A refreshingly positive perspective on the mother-daughter relationship that captures both voices, Between Mother and Daughter is geared toward both mothers and teenage girls who want to maintain or rekindle a healthy relationship during the sometimes difficult teen years. Each chapter begins with a scenario that relates to common issues between mothers and daughters - dating, sex, clothes, housework, drugs, etc. - followed by each author's individual perspective.

Not What I Expected 1 out of 5 stars.
2 of 3 people found this review helpful.

This book is not what I expected it to be. It's full of suggestions for what to do when your baby is asleep. This is a bit laughable to me. One of them suggested trying on all of your shoes, deciding which ones 'no longer fit your lifestyle,' and giving them away. I think this could cause depression as one at least wants to think that there is a future for those high heels again at some point. I expected more educational and age-appropriate suggestions for stimulation of my child, and there are some of those. But it spoke to a different demographic I think; perhaps it's right for the isolated, suburban or country-living stay home mom who feels lonely at home and has lots of time to kill. But for me, life is so busy just taking care of the basics. I wanted a book to give me ideas for creating fun for my child and this just wasn't the right thing for me. I returned it.

Editorial Review:

Bookshelves abound with activity books for babies and toddlers, but The Rookie Mom's Handbook is the first designed exclusively for first-time mothers. Here are 250 enjoyable activities to help rookie moms maintain their individuality and boost their confidence about leaving the house, socializing, and doing things they've always liked to do—either with or without baby.

Inspired by the popular Web site www.rookiemoms.com, the book offers bite-sized activities arranged according to the baby's age. Some are crafty, some are adventurous, and some simply help get a meal on the table.

Written in a lively, supportive tone and decorated with cute illustrations, The Rookie Mom's Handbook is the perfect gift or resource to remind new moms that there's more to life than dirty diapers and 3 a.m. feedings.
