Teach Your Baby Life 5 out of 5 stars.
8 of 10 people found this review helpful.

Doman's books are a must read. I already suggested that one should start with How to Teach Your Baby to Read, because it has the philosophical underpinnings of their theory, but that book is a little time consuming to implement because you have to write words in a cardboard (see cover).
How to Teach Math should be the second, but it is much easier to implement the program because you can purchase an inexpensive kit from the author's institute (see cover).
I also recommend you to take the author's courses, in Philadelphia, but they are a couple of thousand dollars or more. Do it all before your baby is born.
I read How to Multiply your Baby's Intelligence 10 years before my wife got pregnant and it changed my life... and my daughter's (I hope). It changed how I saw child's development. Now she is 3.
But don't get too carried away. Believe me, some parents do get carried away. The ones in Philadelphia seem to belong to a sect. Just enjoy your children and add this program to the fun.
Although I spend a large amount of money with the course, I really don't do much of the program. Still, I raise my daughter differently from what I would otherwise have done without having read this book or taken the course. You will not be the same person after you read it. And it is not about teaching your baby to read. It is about learning how to teach your baby about life.
You will have more respect for your child and will not let your baby grow "by accident." Instead, you will be able to actively participate in the learning process and challenge your child to fulfill his or her intellectual potential. If you have a child, or if you don't but you love someone, this is the only book that you must read. Remember, read it before the baby is born. This collection is a wonderful present for an expecting mother.

Keep this on your Parenting Shelves for Peace of Mind! 4 out of 5 stars.

When my then 5 1/2 year old was behaving much differently than he had at age 5, my mother pulled out an old hardcover version of the Gesell Institute Books and - oh my! - much of the changes seemed to be quite common among 5 1/2 year olds!

These are 'old' books (I'm one of the earliest of the baby boomers, though my child is now nearly 9), but they are still useful.

This book and all in the series are little paperbacks, quick to read. Our society has changed since they were written, so a bit of the book may seem dated if you don't like 'traditional roles. However, there is much good information and wisdom in here, unencumbered by the modern day concerns about ADD and such. In expensive, a good investment to ease a parent's mind. A nice gift from grandparents to their own children, and for young parents, just nice to have on the shelf for those days when we forget that kids behaviors and interests change as they grow up.

Editorial Review:

Following the successful series that includes Your One, Two, Three, Four, Five, and Six Year Old, this look at seven-year-olds is filled with valuable insights and advice essential for parents of children this age.

These books were recommended to me by our pediatrician and I am so glad they were. A perfect reference book for anything you can think of in regards to your child. I have read both volumes from cover to cover and refer to them whenever I am curious as to what is going on! These are written in a very entertaining way and are quickly read. Great Shower gift!

Best resource for new moms! 5 out of 5 stars.

My first copy of Baby 411 was a gift from a girlfriend. I have referenced the book countless times since our little girl was born 2 months ago. I truly appreciate that the questions are relevant, the answers simple, yet informative, and never condescending. I purchased this set as a gift for a girlfriend who recently delivered a baby. This set is my new "go-to" gift for new and expectant moms.

Great approach, encouraging, do read critically though. 4 out of 5 stars.
1 of 1 people found this review helpful.

Very interesting book. Great to reinforce things we already know and suggest ways to enact our ideals as parents. I especially liked the specific suggestions for kinds of toys and for activities. Gentle, realistic, and encouraging suggestions regarding discipline. Good citations of studies to back up concepts. Those new to Steiner, Waldorf, and Anthroposophy should be aware it is very "Stainer oriented" and the realities within this "spiritual science" are considered a given, though not pushed aggresively. For example, the ideas about the incarnation process and life forces are used as part of explainations. Read carefully and critically and accept only what you like, study the rest objectively. Spiritual ideas aside, it's a good look at interacting with children in developmentally appropriate ways and nurturing their holistic (all around) growth.

Editorial Review:

Details what parents can do with and for their children, from birth to age six. This resource book offers new ways for parents to understand their children and provide opportunities to increase their confidence in what they are doing while making the most of the early years. 384 pages.

Editorial Review:

Who says your baby can’t “talk” about his or her feelings? In fact, babies’ actions often speak louder than words! Understanding those actions–and responding appropriately to them–is the key to giving your child a head start to a healthy and happy future. Now the authors of the bestselling Baby Minds and Baby Signs translate the latest research on the rich inner life of babies into practical, fun activities that will foster your child’s emotional skills during the most critical period–between birth and age three. This comprehensive guide will help you help your child express emotions effectively, develop empathy, form healthy friendships, and cope with specific challenges. Learn how to:

•Talk with your child about emotions in order to help him recognize and control his own
•Use face-to-face interaction, tone of voice, song, and touch to make your infant feel safe and secure
•Start a gratitude journal to help your child appreciate the good things in life
•Nurture self-esteem with “try, try again” activities and simple chores
•Create a “What are they feeling” deck of cards to help your child understand and practice emotions
•Use games and songs to help your child practice self-control
•Overcome temper tantrums, aggression, shyness, separation anxiety, and other challenges

Whether your child is as easy to raise as a sunflower, as difficult as the prickly holly bush, requires the patience of the delicate orchid, or is as active as the exuberant dandelion, Baby Hearts helps you provide the
emotional support that may be the most important gift a parent can give.

A lifesaver.... 5 out of 5 stars.
1 of 1 people found this review helpful.

I'm not well schooled in herbs or home remedies, but this book was a tremendous help to me during my last two pregnancies. There are not just herbal concoctions, but simple, common-sense solutions for everything from pain to depression to lactation issues. When I was struggling with what might have been a premature birth, I consulted this book and was able to halt my contractions, and afterwards continued a healthy, full-term pregnancy. The knowledge you'll find in these pages is priceless.

Great book 5 out of 5 stars.

I work in a health food store and pregnant women, and women with small children ask me all the time about herbal advice for them- something impossible to find.(Usually at the advice of their doctor) I always remind them that I'm not a doctor and anything they do is at their own risk. That said, what I am is someone who researches herbs and vitamins constantly, and obsessively reads about the side effects and interactions of natural medicine. Because of this book's warnings about herbs, I have informed hundreds of pregnant women about herbs they should be careful with- saffron, parsley, etc. Susun Weed will recommend mild herbs scientifically known for their gentle effectiveness. Also, her advice tends to actually work and have the advantage of thousands of years of experience concerning side effects under its' belt.(And real science- real research done by doctors/scientists- search the herbs recommended in studies done by "The Lancet" for example) Do you want to take ginger tea for your nausea or a prescription?? Well, they're both potentially dangerous-not just the herb. And that's a fact-yeah, herbs can kill you-everyone knows this-and so can drugs-so people should educate themselves about the side effects of EVERYTHING they put into their bodies. When a doctor says a drug is "safe", they don't mean harmless, they mean that the good outweighs the bad or the drug is "relatively safe'. Eating licorice everyday is dangerous...saffron could kill you...
