Wonderful! Nice to see feelings in print! 5 out of 5 stars.
1 of 1 people found this review helpful.

Our first child, our son Wyatt, was stillborn and it has been the most devastating event of our entire lives. I bought this book after a fellow angel parent recommended it and absolutely loved it. It is so "nice" to see all the thoughts and feelings you have after losing a child right there in print. It makes you realize you're not going crazy, that those thoughts and feelings are legitimate, and that you are not alone. I carried this book everywhere with me and would highlight phrases that were personal to me. It really helped me understand the loss of our son and give me strength and courage to go on with our lives while still keeping his memory alive. I'm so sorry to those of you having to look at this book, but I hope it can help you as much as it has helped me.

Editorial Review:

The heartache of miscarriage, stillbirth, or infant death affects thousands of U.S. families every year. Empty Cradle, Broken Heart offers reassurance to parents who struggle with anger, guilt, and despair after such tragedy. Deborah Davis encourages grieving and makes suggestions for coping. The book includes information on issues such as the death of one or more babies from a multiple birth, pregnancy interruption, and the questioning of aggressive medical intervention. There is also a special chapter for fathers as well as a chapter on "protective parenting" to help anxious parents enjoy their precious living children. Doctors, nurses, relatives, friends, and other support persons can gain special insight. Most importantly, parents facing the death of a baby will find necessary support in this gentle guide. If reading this book moves you to cry, try to accept this reaction. Your tears merge with those of other grieving parents. You are not alon! e.

Best Parenting Book there is 5 out of 5 stars.
1 of 1 people found this review helpful.

I have spent five years reading parenting books and this is the best one by far. I have read this book probably 5 times...and review it all the time. My husband took a master's level parenting class for a related field and this was his textbook. This book takes the pain out of parenting and the pain out of your children when we try to parent. This is a no-hit, no-yell, effective, kind way to parent. I often have people tell me they can't believe how well behaved my kids are. I tell ya it isn't luck, it is using the information from this book! It is worth every penny you pay and more. You, your kids and your spouse will be happier from reading this. Parenting and family life are fun thanks to this, just as it should be. By the way, this book isn't magic, it isn't always easy to keep your temper down but if you work at it you will love being a parent!

Repetitive... counterintuitive... and absolutely spot on. 5 out of 5 stars.
1 of 1 people found this review helpful.

This is a book I wish had been around when my kids were young. Thank heavens I found it while they were teenagers. I picked it up on the recommendation of a friend, when my kids were heading for social, educational and emotional disaster. When I hit the page where the author says that insanity is doing the same things you have always done and expecting different results, I decided his concepts were worth a try. My kids responded immediately, just as Dr. Latham predicted, and so positively that I was astounded.

Don't expect to be too entertained by this book. It's repetitive and many of the things the author tells you to do are so counterintuitive you may be tempted (as I was) to think they'll never work. However, don't let the repetitive nature of his instructions put you off. There's a good reason for all the repetition--we don't get it the first time, or the second, or the third, or... Give his principles a try and watch the absolute miracles start to happen.

Editorial Review:

Why do some families have fewer sleep problems than others? What works for most parents most of the time and why?

Parenting is a full-time, twenty-four-hour-a-day job. Nighttime Parenting was written to make that job easier and to help the whole family--mother, father, baby--sleep better. It helps parents understand why babies sleep differently than adults, offers solutions to nighttime problems, and even describes how certain styles of nighttime parenting can aid in child spacing and lower the risks of Sudden Infant Death Syndrome (SIDS).

Renowned pediatrician Dr. William Sears helps you find a solution to your baby's sleepless nights and offers comprehensive, caring advice on issues such as:

* Where babies should sleep
* What foods help children sleep
* Tips for single parents
* Getting children to bed without a struggle

This newly-revised edition incorporates the latest research on SIDS and its prevention, and is truly a must-have volume for all parents.

"This book belongs on the shelf right next to The Womanly Art of Breastfeeding. It will help all new parents raise happier and more secure children."--Mary White, founding mother, La Leche League (r) International

Excellent step-by-step 5 out of 5 stars.
5 of 5 people found this review helpful.

Our daughter has DS and is having some GMS issues. However, this book provides instruction on how to progress to each step toward walking. The therpist we use has began to instruct us on some of these steps, but our daughter has already been through them, so it is keeping her ahead of the game. I've heard a lot about Patricia Winders, and I wouldn't hesitate to buy other books of hers as well.

Great book! 5 out of 5 stars.

This is a great book for learning about gross motor development. As with the other books like it, this book follows stages rather than ages, so the user can focus on the particular child and his/her development.

Editorial Review:

Children with Down syndrome master gross motor skills -- everything from rolling over to running but need additional help and encouragement to maximise development. In this book the author, a physical therapist, shares her experience gained from sixteen years specialising in the motor development of children with Down Syndrome. This book provides parents and professionals with essential information about motor development including the impact of temperament and the effect of physical and medical conditions associated with Down syndrome.

Editorial Review:

A cutting-edge handbook for parents, from a pioneer in infant brain development, that bridges the gap between the most current neuroscience and practical parenting techniques

Dr. Jill Stamm’s daughter was born almost four months premature, and doctors insisted she would never walk or talk. Now, thirty-two years later, her daughter is living proof that nearly every baby’s brain has the potential to adapt and flourish given the right attention. A leading authority in infant brain development, she makes new, remarkable findings accessible to everyone in Bright from the Start. What babies need is as simple as A, B, C:
• ATTENTION: including how to increase a child’s attention span, and how to balance stimulation with down time
• BONDING: illustrating the importance of developing emotional attachment between a child and a consistent caregiver—and why this is key to cognitive development
• COMMUNICATION: with breakthrough advice for tapping the correlation between verbal engagement with parents and higher IQ rates among children

She also discusses what kind of childcare environment to select, why learning toys don’t teach as much as you think, why reading to a baby is critical, and how you can help your child learn how to pay attention. By working with Dr. Stamm’s ABCs in Bright from the Start, all parents can help to build a radiant future for their precious little ones.

Editorial Review:

Becoming a stepmother is a life-altering event in any woman's life. The issues are extraordinarily complex and women are overwhelmingly unprepared. Yet concerns usually focus on the effect remarriage has on the children. The Enlightened Stepmother approaches the subject from a totally new perspective -- that of the stepmother. Based on information -- sometimes controversial -- from stepmoms of all ages, occupations and lifestyles, who know from experience what works, what doesn't and why --

  • What you need to know about your new family before you become part of it.

  • How to get off to the right start. (It's hard to change a relationship once you've taken the path of least resistance.)

  • How to prevent, rather than cure, the stepmom's classic pitfalls.

  • What you need to recognize about your relationship with your husband's children.

  • How to handle relationships between your kids and his.

  • Why you need to give your marriage top priority.

  • How to make sure others are aware that this is your life too.

  • Why you need to develop a working relationship with your stepchildren's mother.

  • How to understand the inevitable stages every stepfamily passes through.

  • How to overcome the guilt of not loving -- or even liking -- your stepchildren.

  • How to avoid feeling guilty in circumstances over which you have no control.

  • Why a successful stepfamily is as unique as every stepmom.

The calendar has a page of stickers with major milestones and is made to be personalized for your child. It also comes with a height cart for the wall. The beginning of the calendar has space for a photo and a page for a family tree (to grandparents).

Cute and easy to use 5 out of 5 stars.

The stickers peel and place easily and have a lot of "firsts" covered. Very cute.

I like the Baby's First Year calendar (Guess How Much I Love You)... probably because I LOVE the story itself. However I was disappointed that EACH MONTH did NOT have a SPOT for a PICTURE taken that month. I always give a 'first year calendar' for new babies or babies to be and overall, I would recommend this calendar.

Very cute, classic, good for girl or boy 5 out of 5 stars.
1 of 1 people found this review helpful.

This calendar is perfect for either a baby boy or girl. We have a boy, & the pictures in the calendar are straight out of the book, so if you love the book, you'll love the calendar. The stickers are cute & still leave a little room in the day to add a little note to it if you want.
