I HAVE PROOF! 5 out of 5 stars.

When I was pregnant with my daughter - there was a lot of worry since this was my first child. Obviously, children do not come with a manual! I bought and read this book and used it constantly as a referral. Our daughter is happy, polite, shares, intelligent, kind, etc. She is constantly invited to parties and restaraunts that other childdren are not invited to. After meals at restaraunts, the managers/owners come and comment on what a well-behaved child she is. She does have many friends and can get along with varied personalities. We purchase this book for all new parents - and they read it stating they would like a child that is as polite and respectful (of others and their properties) as our daughter is. You really cannot go wrong in purchasing this book!!

Great Info for those who have preemies 4 out of 5 stars.
0 of 0 people found this review helpful.

This book was very helpful in understanding what was happening with my baby while he was in the hospital and after I brought him home. None of my friends had preemies so they could offer advice because its a little different. I would highly reccomend this book to anyone who wants a reference guide or information on premature babies.

Positive Book 5 out of 5 stars.

I was admitted to the hospital and prepared for the birth of my little girl at 28 weeks, at that time I ordered quite a few books on premature babies. The baby waited another 5 and 1/2 weeks to arrive, but since the doctors kept me in the hospital on my side, I got plenty of time to read ALL of the books.
I found this book to be the most postive and reassuring. I was scared out of my mind, and many of the other books only gave worst case scenarios, whereas this book always gave the best possible outlook and postive ways to deal with things.
My baby is now 16 months old (14 months corrected age) and doing fine :-)and I am a BIG believer in Dr. Sears.

Practical, helpful information. 5 out of 5 stars.
16 of 16 people found this review helpful.

When you know what behaviors are "normal" for your child's age you can relax, stop the worry, and focus on appropriate solutions. This whole series of books accurately defines the ages and stages of children. These books keep your expectations realistic and allow you to avoid anger caused by a lack of understanding of your child's developmental stages.

Editorial Review:

What happened to that sunny outgoing child of eight?  As parents of nine-year-olds often discover, nine is a tricky age.  Children are more distant from Mother and Father; they're more independant and rely on friends for companionship, or they have a tendency to spend time alone.  Some nines are boisterous and wild, others thoughtful and withdrawn.  Helping parents learn how to cope with the unpredictable nine-year-old is the aim of this practical guide from the Gesell Institute.

Nine-year-olds are hovering on the brink of adolescence, and this in part contributes to their up-and-down nature.  Dr. Louis Bates Ames and Carol Chase Haber paint a vivid picture of the child at this age and offer useful advice to make life easier for parents and children alike.

Editorial Review:

Kids with sensory processing disorder SPD may seem unduly sensitive to physical sensations, light, and sound, and they may react strongly to sensory events that adult and other children take in stride or totally ignore. SPD can make it hard for kids to do well in school, participate in social events, and live peaceably with other family members. Until now there have been only limited resources for parents of kids with this condition, but in this book a child advocate and child psychologist offer this comprehensive guide to parenting a child with SPD and integrating his or her care with the needs of the whole family.

The book introduces SPD and offers an overview of what it means to advocate for a child with the condition. It describes a range of activities that help strengthen family relationships, improve communication about the disorder, and deal with problem situations and conditions a child with SPD may encounter. Throughout, the book stresses the importance of whole-family involvement in the care of a child with SPD, especially the roles fathers play in care-giving. Many of the book’s ideas are illustrated with case stories that demonstrate how the book’s ideas can play out in daily life.

Editorial Review:

The number of children taking prescription drugs for every type of ailment has reached epidemic proportions. Child Health Guide offers sensible alternatives to this disturbing trend, providing the information parents need to make informed decisions about natural healing for their children and the integration of natural treatments into their children's medical care. The book covers the prenatal period through infancy, toddlerhood, and into middle childhood, with emphasis on extended breastfeeding, co-sleeping, a natural foods diet, avoidance of toxic chemicals, limited use of vaccines, and treatment of health problems with homeopathic medicines and herbs. Child Health Guide respects parents' choices while providing persuasive arguments for building a healthy immune system by avoiding conventional drugs and stressing natural methods. Using an educational and informative tone, the book discusses preventive medicine, the causes of poor health in children, and common foods and chemical exposures that can contribute to chronic illness. It also provides nutritional interventions that strengthen immunity and promote healing.

Don't buy this paperback version! 1 out of 5 stars.
2 of 2 people found this review helpful.

This paperback version published by www.bnpublishing.com (ISBN 9562915824) excludes most of the original illustrations/pictures/photos without indication in the product description, which, I think, has largely lowered the quality and damaged contents of this book. So, this book is not what it was supposed to be. Reading experience of it is terrible! My zero start for it.

Montessori method 5 out of 5 stars.
1 of 2 people found this review helpful.

The Montessori method is an educational method for children, based on theories of child development originated by Italian educator Maria Montessori in the late 19th and early 20th century.

It is applied primarily in preschool and elementary school settings, though some Montessori high schools exist.

The method is characterized by an emphasis on self-directed activity on the part of the child and clinical observation on the part of the teacher (often called a "director", "directress", or "guide").

It stresses the importance of adapting the child's learning environment to his or her developmental level, and of the role of physical activity in absorbing academic concepts and practical skills.

It is also characterized by the use of autodidactic (self-correcting) equipment to introduce various concepts.

Although there are many schools which use the name "Montessori," the word itself is not recognized as a trademark, nor is it associated with a single specific organization

Editorial Review:

1912. Montessori, the first Italian woman M.D., was one of the great pioneers in studying the intellectual development of the young child. Only through movement and manipulation, through thinking with the senses, does the child proceed to later abstract thinking. The doctor carried her insight; that children learned through all their senses, to its logical conclusion. On their way to cleanliness, order, poise, and conversation, children use the Montessori materials-inherently logical and aesthetically pleasing-to develop a sense for order and logical thought, and a firm foundation for success in learning.

Editorial Review:

Dr. Sal Severe maintains that "children learn what they live...your children do as you do." How to Behave So Your Children Will, Too! is based on his belief that a child's behavior is often a reflection of the parents' behavior. Instead of focusing on what children do wrong, this book teaches parents what they can do right, by focusing on the positive--reinforcing the good behavior instead of criticizing the child, being consistent--not giving in to misbehavior just to placate the child, and being more patient--recognizing that children operate on a different time schedule. Based on stories, ideas, and solutions from the more than 20,000 parents who have attended Dr. Severe's workshops, How to Behave So Your Children Will, Too! is a book that will entertain, comfort, and make parenting simpler and more enjoyable.

Dr. Severe has spent the last 25 years working with behavior disordered children, as a teacher, counselor, principal, school psychologist, and director of special education. In How to Behave So Your Children Will,Too!, he combines expertise with his own brand of practical, easy-to-follow advice that teaches parents how to be consistent, manage their anger, prevent arguments and power struggles, and make discipline simple, making their lives easier. In the 1960s, Dr. Spock revolutionized the way parents raised their children. Now, Dr. Sal Severe is destined to become the next guru of child-rearing for parents, grandchildren, and children.

How to Behave So Your Children Will, Too! was honored and recommended by the Parents Choice Foundation, the Parent Council Ltd., and the National Parenting Center

"This book speaks to the heart of the family system--the parents. Parents must behave so their children will too!"-- John Bradshaw, author of Bradshaw On: The Family

"This book gives parents the confidence they need to practice self-discipline, patience, and constancy in order to raise well-behaved children."--The New York Daily News

"I found this to be a very valuable book. It has helped me immensely with my children."--Jack Canfield, author of Chicken Soup for the Soul

Good information but sexist 2 out of 5 stars.
0 of 0 people found this review helpful.

I enjoyed the information in the book, extremely helpful for getting your family on track nutritionally. I was very disappointed in a book written in 2006 reinforcing such rigid gender stereotypes. In the food shopping with your kids section, Dr. Sears tells his son that "the dark green one will help you run really fast." he then tells his daughter that "it will give you prettier hair and sharper eyes." Come on! This is ridiculous! It's the 21st century and we still have people telling our boys to be strong and our girls to be pretty?! I would expect better from Dr. Sears.

Best for you & Your Family / Healthiest Kid in the Neighborhood... 5 out of 5 stars.

I first read this book from our local library. Loved it so much - I bought it as a reference. It is packed with life changing easy to read information to improve your and your family's food habits. A good portion of American health problems stems from our use of processed and trans fat laden foods. What can we do to make changes to give our families a better chance at life? We do not have to buy and feed our families this junk! Read the book to learn how to reverse damage and improve your and your family's health. Your gut will thank you. Behaviors will improve or will be eliminated in ADD children by improving nutrition. Read for scientific basis.
Debunking fad diets Dr. Sears (with support from many other Dr. Sears), informs reader of a healthy life change of eating. This does not mean removing the joy of eating. But it does offer ways to reduce risk of cancer, diabetes etc. This book also includes 11 ways to feed growing brains - a must for all parents! Very good informative reading!! Thank you Dr. Sears and family! Happy reading.
