Not What I Expected 1 out of 5 stars.
2 of 3 people found this review helpful.

This book is not what I expected it to be. It's full of suggestions for what to do when your baby is asleep. This is a bit laughable to me. One of them suggested trying on all of your shoes, deciding which ones 'no longer fit your lifestyle,' and giving them away. I think this could cause depression as one at least wants to think that there is a future for those high heels again at some point. I expected more educational and age-appropriate suggestions for stimulation of my child, and there are some of those. But it spoke to a different demographic I think; perhaps it's right for the isolated, suburban or country-living stay home mom who feels lonely at home and has lots of time to kill. But for me, life is so busy just taking care of the basics. I wanted a book to give me ideas for creating fun for my child and this just wasn't the right thing for me. I returned it.

Editorial Review:

Bookshelves abound with activity books for babies and toddlers, but The Rookie Mom's Handbook is the first designed exclusively for first-time mothers. Here are 250 enjoyable activities to help rookie moms maintain their individuality and boost their confidence about leaving the house, socializing, and doing things they've always liked to do—either with or without baby.

Inspired by the popular Web site www.rookiemoms.com, the book offers bite-sized activities arranged according to the baby's age. Some are crafty, some are adventurous, and some simply help get a meal on the table.

Written in a lively, supportive tone and decorated with cute illustrations, The Rookie Mom's Handbook is the perfect gift or resource to remind new moms that there's more to life than dirty diapers and 3 a.m. feedings.

Good for 1st time moms for 1st few weeks 3 out of 5 stars.
1 of 1 people found this review helpful.

This is a nice book for a first time mom in those very early weeks when she is probably very nervous and unsure and might want a neutral source to refer to instead of listening to all the advice of well-meaning friends & family. After the first few months I rarely looked at it aqain though.

Revised version of "Countdown to a Miracle: The Making of Me" 5 out of 5 stars.
0 of 0 people found this review helpful.

Some of you may think that this concept of a daily pregnancy calendar 'written' from the baby's point of view sounds familiar. That's because "Countdown to My Birth" is the newest version of Countdown to a Miracle: The Making of Me (2nd ed) by Julie B. Carr. While the cover is different, the interior concept is still the same - each day your baby describes what is happening from conception to birth, complete with a due date countdown, a place to put today's date, room for notes, and bonus stickers to mark special 'firsts' - first kick, first hiccup, etc. The stand-up, spiral bound format is also the same.

If you loved 'Countdown to a Miracle', you'll love this new version!

Julie Carr, author

Editorial Review:

This day by day account of pregnancy will help expecting mothers discover captivating facts like when your baby is the length and weight of a hot dog roll, when the heart begins to beat, when their eyes open and they begin to look around, and 277 additional daily developmental facts beginning with "making me" and concluding with the "arrival."

¿This book will warm a mom's heart and soul. It's the making of a miracle and a keepsake forever¿ ¿Jodie Lynn, syndicated family columnist for Parent to Parent.

not quite what i expected 3 out of 5 stars.
2 of 2 people found this review helpful.

As I was looking for a one year calendar for my third child, I had pretty specific criteria. One such criteria was that there was space for a photo for each of the twelve months. The close-up of this calendar displayed what ended up being the LAST page- a large spae for a picture- which was not descriptive of each months page. I was a little disappointed when the calendar arrived and I realized the mistake. Just a word to the wise, for those who may be seeking the same features in a one-year calendar and may be mislead by this one.

I hate this thing 1 out of 5 stars.
0 of 1 people found this review helpful.

First let me say, it's a hassle because you have to write in the dates of every month because it is all blank. Some may say this is nice but I found it very difficult to keep up with. I need the simplicity of one already made up ready to write in. The stickers are a nice addition. The thing that was the most frustrating is that there isn't enough pages to have the final month in order to write their first birthday or anything. There are only tweleve pages. That was a little frustrating to me. If I could go back I would have just used a real calendar. It is much simpler. I will give it credit for being cute and a nice keepsake.

Editorial Review:

Charming illustrations and convenient design make it easy for parents to make a detailed keepsake of their baby's first year. With ample writing space and adorable stickers, parents can keep a month-by-month account of each and every important milestone and precious first experience they share with their new child.

Hysterical! 5 out of 5 stars.
0 of 0 people found this review helpful.

OMG--Andrea Sarvady is hysterical! I don't even have a baby anymore--and LOVED this book. The entertaining copy is coupled with beautiful photos of adorable babies. I can't wait to try a "burrito roll" on the next baby I'm with.

Perfect gift for a new parent! When will you translate this into other languages--everyone can appreciate this book!

Editorial Review:

Origami meets the age-old art of swaddling in Baby-Gami and no longer does baby wrapping have to be an intimidating undertaking. Easy-to-follow instructions illustrated with step-by-step diagrams and unbearably cute photographs make it a cinch to execute flawless wraps. The first part of the book offers a variety of cocoon-like styles for newborns; the second shows parents how to create slings for "wearing" older babies. Once new parents master the basic swaddles and slings, they can branch out into more pizazzy terrain. Try the Picnic Wrap, the Glamour Sling, or the satin and tulle Gift Wrap. With advice from experts and real parents, tips on baby-carrying, baby-soothing, and a rundown of items not to wrap your baby in, Baby-Gami is a must-have for any new parent.

mixed feelings 2 out of 5 stars.
3 of 3 people found this review helpful.

This is a bizarre book in that some chapters made perfect sense and others completely missed the mark. For example, her ideas about cribs and diapers were very rigid and traditional in a bad way. She actually called the family bed a fad. That's one of the many places she totally lost me; that's ridiculous. Also, she assumes that parents will be diapering the baby for 3 years, not taking into account that most of the world does not diaper in the western way, but instead practices EC. Therefore her views on toilet training were very limited and underestimated the infant's capabilities. There's also a LOT of leaving the babies alone in this book, it was excessive. Other separate chapters, for example about taking your baby outside, or observing baby carefully were beautiful. I have never disagreed more and agreed more with ideas in the same book before. I think the ideas about letting child develop naturally at his/her own pace can be found better (without the bizarro stuff in between) in "You are your child's first teacher" which explains the good ideas in this book, such as avoiding battery operated toys and television for children and creating a peaceful environment.

Good all-around baby book 5 out of 5 stars.
1 of 1 people found this review helpful.

I bought this baby book based on the reviews and the fact that Guess How Much I Love You is one of my favorite children's books. The book does a nice job of asking enough questions to make a complete record for your baby without being overly burdensome. Some of the other books I looked at seriously asked what the weather was on the day you found out your were pregnant. Seriously, who would care about that? This baby book also gives great suggestions for a few pictures which is helpful--like the place to put a picture of you pregnant. I am very pleased.

Great gift! 5 out of 5 stars.

I bought this item for a friend. She absolutely loved it. There is a great deal of room available for family history and before pregnancy info. There was even space for pictures during the pregnancy and some pre-pregnancy photo space. The images in the book and written taglines are in keeping with the actual "Guess How Much I Love You" book. It comes highly recommended. My sister received quite a few baby books at her baby shower and found they were all too basic or didn't leave enough room for adding comments. This is perfect and totally gender neutral. I would suggest buying the little stuffed bunny and book as well! Enjoy!

Editorial Review:

Here's a baby book that begins before baby is even born! From the names Mom and Dad dreamed up for their baby-to-be to the games they played with him or her as a toddler, this endearing — and enduring — keepsake has room to record milestones and show photographs of a child's early years. Guess how much it will be treasured when baby grows up!

Editorial Review:

Any parent who's been through the rigors of an infant invasion knows that the real poop, er, scoop, rarely gets recorded in those precious little keepsake books. After all, those books don't cover all the really gross and fascinating stuff that makes parents laugh, scream, and scratch their heads. The Inappropriate Baby Book, however, has the good stuff covered. A real baby book for real parents, The Inappropriate Baby Book offers a unique and hysterical way to commemorate those decidedly non-Kodak moments that compose the better part of the newborn experience. Herein, you'll find room to record such facts as:You were introduced to a rectal thermometer on this day: _______.The first person you peed on was _______.Your mom was embarrassed by breast leakage in the following places: _________.Your first poop happened on this day: _______, and was this color: _________.Now, that's the kind of information that should not be lost to posterity!Sure, babies are cute, but they are also stinky, sticky, soggy, and otherwise inappropriate. So don't sugarcoat the story-let The Inappropriate Baby Book help you tell it like it really is.The book includes an envelope affixed to the last page so that an inappropriate memento can be saved forever. (Or at least until the little angel's prom night!)
