Editorial Review:

If you think your chubby child will outgrow his or her weight, think again. Today's world of fast food and sedentary pastimes does little to encourage physical activity and healthy eating. One in four children in this country is unhealthily overweight, and the physical and emotional costs will shorten his or her life. But there's good news: Parents can take charge -- and Trim Kids shows how.

This easy-to-use, scientifically tested plan helps children achieve a healthy weight -- and have fun doing it. Written by a team of medical experts with over fifteen years of experience helping overweight kids, this book will help you reverse the vicious circle of childhood obesity.

Trim Kids is a unique twelve-week plan that gives parents and children a positive, safe initial approach to lifetime weight management. Each week, parents and kids together will practice scientifically proven ways to increase daily activity and will set (and celebrate!) achievable eating and exercise goals. Children will learn kid-specific exercises especially designed for their weight levels, and the family will enjoy dozens of menu plans with tasty, nutritious, kid-tested recipes. You'll discover easy nutrition strategies -- including shopping lists and dining-out tips -- perfect for busy caregivers, and you'll learn how to coach your child in well-established behavioral strategies for making healthier lifestyle choices away from home.

The Trim Kids Program is based on the fifteen-year success of one of the only multidisciplinary team approaches in the world for preventing and treating childhood obesity, an approach that has been featured on Oprah, Good Morning America, CBS This Morning, and 48 Hours and in USA Today, Ladies' Home Journal, and elsewhere.

No matter why your child is overweight, this book -- and its twelve-week plan -- will provide the support you need to ensure success. Soon, the whole family will be practicing new, healthier nutrition and activity habits.

Editorial Review:

The typical American diet is a major factor in the epidemic of obesity and poor health in the country’s children. Baby Greens helps parents establish healthy eating habits in their children—and themselves—through a diet rich in raw foods. A lively mix of education, philosophy, recipes, and activities, the book adapts the living foods approach for all ages and lifestyles. The first part of the book explains the principles of bioenergetic nutrition and shows how cutting-edge nutritional practices—including nutritional individuality, pH balance, terrain testing, and homeopathy—can dramatically improve a child’s health. In addition to recipes and resources, the second part offers insights into the holistic approach to pregnancy, breastfeeding, extended breastfeeding, weaning, food experimentation, play, and other daily activities. Written in reassuring, easy to understand language, Baby Greens empowers parents to step outside the fast food box and take a proactive approach to maintaining their family’s health and well-being.

Good resource 4 out of 5 stars.

(...)I went through this book marking sections to go back over and re-read. Much of the book is geared toward explaining what A.D.D. and A.D.H.D. is, the symptoms, and possible contributing factors. I could not help but wonder WHY? Anyone looking up information on A.D.D. and/or A.D.H.D. already knows what it is. Chances are they have talked, in depth, to their doctor(s) already.

A.D.D. stands for Attention Deficit Disorder. The "H" stands for someone with A.D.D. and has hyperactivity with it. If you are looking for something with A.D.L.D. ("L" stands for a problem with "Learning" instead of a problem with "Hyperactivity".) Then this book is NOT for you. Nothing in this book even remotely touches A.D.L.D.

This book is put together to give an idea of how to treat the symptoms of A.D.D. and A.D.H.D. naturally. That does not mean you will successfully treat the disorder by what is in this book. But what parent would not want to read everything they can find on the subject and gain an idea of what else they could possibly do? This book will have you parents saying "Yeah! That is exactly what my child is like! I know exactly what you mean!" I may be a "reviewer" but I only agreed to review this book because my own son is A.D.H.D. Whether you give medication or not, this book is for you! The concerned parent! The one who does not want to miss a chance of helping your child have a better life, now and in the future!

This book has been a best seller for a long time. It is revised often, as all good medical non-fictions are. After all, scientists and doctors are learning new things every single day. The public needs to be educated. Here is your chance to BE educated. Do not let it pass!

The chapters include:

If You Want Something Different, You've Got to Do Something Different.
Going Through The Open Door
"But Why Do I Have ADD?"
The First Step Toward Changing Your Diet
What Should You Eat?
Tasty Recipes
The Importance of Detoxifying
Supplements That We Need
Nutrients That Help A.D.D. & A.D.H.D.
Non-Dietary Approaches to A.D.D. / A.D.H.D.
Resource Directory, Bibliography, Index. (...)

Editorial Review:

This book gives the latest information on what to eat, what to avoid, problems with chemicals, supplements that help, non-dietary approaches, reasons for ADD and more! It takes you through some easy steps to eliminate the triggers for ADD/ADHD that you may consider before you give your child drugs to see if the symptoms go away. It is a simple read that touches on many subjects and gives the reader an eye opener into potential causes of ADD/ADHD.

This is a gem! 5 out of 5 stars.

This is a great book. The theory that this book encourages is sometimes called *intuitive eating*. I have introduced this method of eating to my family, and I already see wonderful results. It is empowering for our children to learn to listen to their bodies. By respecting our children, and trusting them to know what their bodies need, we stop the power struggles about food in our families. In addition, we give our children a wonderful gift: a healthy relationship with food. Buy the book!

Editorial Review:

As seen on the Oprah Winfrey show!

This book offers a common-sense, relaxed approach to healthy eating for children of all ages. The authors present evidence that children will naturally self-regulate their eating if rigid rules are not imposed upon them. They also address parents' most common concerns such as when, what, and how much kids should be eating, how to handle peer pressure, the sugar controversy, body-image problems, special situations, and eating disorders. This book will help both parents and children make peace with food.

Clear, informative, and easily read 5 out of 5 stars.

As the first-time parent of a 17 month old child, I'm no stranger to nutritional eating for adults, but absolutely clueless as to the same for children... especially for the most finicky child (MINE!). This book helped to explain methodology of eating, essential childhood vitamins and nutrients, and age by age explanations of eating behavior and nutrition. I bought a few other children's nutrition books along with this one (such as the one from American Academy of Pediatrics), and I definitely found this one the most helpful. The chapter format allows you to read only the chapters that pertain to your child. Complete with recipes! I have yet to try them, but they look delicious.

Editorial Review:

Editorial Review:

Childhood is a pivotal time for good nutrition. Organs and blood streams nurtured with junk food cannot build a foundation for good health and longevity as an adult. Drs. Joseph Mercola and Ben Lerner believe profound inactivity, addiction to electronic media, and diets of super-sized fast food and sugar-laden beverages have created a national emergency. Generation XL is a clarion call and a detailed guide to giving your child a vibrant, successful future and a healthy, wholesome, invigorating youth.

As children riddled with pain, illness, learning disorders, and even depression begin to show up everywhere, rather than looking at brain development, nutrition, and lack of movement as the culprits, concerned parents are turning to more and more medications. Think about that. Is that how we were designed? To make medication a way of life and to be drugged early on a consistent basis?

What does the future hold for us when kids are overweight, out of shape, and taking medications for the effects? What kind of children are we creating?

This is not a diet book-far, far from it. Dropping another diet book into the same culture will do nothing but take up more room on your shelf. Generation XL shows you how kids were created to eat, breathe, sleep, run, and live. At the same time, Drs. Mercola and Lerner help you change your family culture and recognize where the culture around you isn't working so you can avoid it or help to change it.

Since prevention is always easier (and wiser) than cure, incorporating the lifestyle changes suggested in Generation XL gives your child a realistic way to reach and maintain a healthy weight; dramatically reduce the risk of developing type 2 diabetes, cardiovascular disease, and other health risks; and build a strong body and positive mental attitude, maximizing his or her IQ and giving the best chance for success.

Editorial Review:

After writing several award-winning health and nutrition titles that have had great success in the UK, Nicola Graimes makes her debut in the US market with the first book to focus on children and brain power and the foods that truly can improve intelligence and those that can hinder it. With her exciting positive twist on the link between the food that children eat and their mental development, Graimes offers parents new ways and reasons to give their children (from pregnancy through primary school) and the essential foods and nutrients they require.

BRAIN FOODS FOR KIDS includes:

-A clear and easy-to-follow introduction to the principles of good childhood nutrition and information on all the latest science on brain-boosting foods

-Practical, kid-tested advice on incorporating the essential foods into a child-friendly diet

-Special "brain-box" features to explain the health-giving, mind-boosting properties of each of the featured dishes

-Teaches how to recognize foods containing additives and pesticides, and how to choose healthy, nutritious ingredients

-Advice on using diet to control and avoid behavioral problems such as ADHD

Graimes divides the book into two sections. The first is full of advice, bursting with color photographs and helpful scientific facts as palatable for adult readers as the recipes are for their children. The second part covers more than 100 recipes for every meal of the day, parties, picnics, and plenty of delicious snacks. And the perforated at-a-glance weekly menu planner can be torn out for posting on the fridge.

Editorial Review:

This book tastes great and it's good for you, too. Feeding Your Child for Lifelong Health: Birth Through Age Six is based on the principle of "metabolic programming," the scientifically rooted idea that foods eaten in early childhood directly affect the function of individual cells that control strength, intelligence, the immune system, and other vital functions. Think of it as a convoluted molecular take on the old maxim "You are what you eat." Genetics and other external factors also play a role, of course, but those factors are beyond our control. What goes on the dinner table, however, is not. The point of this book is to help parents teach their kids to like healthful foods, thus getting them into a lifelong habit of eating well and staying healthy.

There is a fair amount of science in this book, but the clear writing and good organization make it go down easy. Particularly helpful are the numerous graphs and boxes that highlight such topics as the best sources of calcium and iron (and why too much iron is dangerous), the differences between breast milk and formula, the eight key nutrients for different ages, and how to identify and even prevent allergies and intolerance to certain foods. The recipes, sample meals, healthy snacks, and tips for dealing with finicky eaters are alone worth the price of the book. Feeding Your Child for Lifelong Health is an invaluable guide to ensuring that not only will your kids eat their vegetables, they'll even ask for seconds. --Shawn Carkonen
