Verbal OK, Aweful Math 2 out of 5 stars.

This book's verbal section is well organized and will definitely help you in the real GRE's. However, Mr. Barron clearly has no understanding of the GRE Math. The graph questions are simply aweful and do not reflect the real GRE questions whatsoever. Moreover, the grammer on Math questions is extremely sloppy, often leading to obvious confusions about what the questions ask. If you are trying to score perfect on the math like I am, this book will only frustrate you with its consistenly aweful graph questions and grammer ambiguities.

De-mystifies the GRE writing section. 5 out of 5 stars.

This book helped me score a 5.5 out of 6 on the writing portion. When I first began studying fot the GRE, I was intimidated by all the elements of the writing section: a vast pool of vague topics, impossible time limits, and my own cluttered opinions. I found Peterson's guide to be a practical refresher on rhetoric, fine tuned for maximum performance on the 45 minute and 30 minute essays.

My first few practice essays were rushed and unclear. On the day of the exam, I found myself with EXTRA time to edit and even add an extra paragraph. This could not have happened without Peterson.

I located this book at the public library a few days before the GRE- one of the best preparation decisions I made. It prompted me how to use supporting examples without letting them become cumbersome, develop a nuanced but clear line of reasoning, and skillfully deconstruct the arguments given in the argument-analysis portion.

This book might be a few years old, but its contents far outperform Barron's 2006/7 section on the GRE writing portion. I recommend using Barron's for everything else (verbal, quantitative tips and review, and the practice tests)- but complement your study with Peterson's book.

Also, I would recommend checking out the A&E video series "Biography of the Millennium: 100 People, 1000 Years" for an overview of western culture and history. It supplies some great examples to use in your essay.

This test prep book is designed to help build up one's vocabulary in preparation for the GRE. The math on the GRE is of the same level as the SATs, but, as the book explains, the creators of the GRE figure you should have been working on your vocabulary during your undergraduate years.

The book offers several helpful tools for learning new words, and picks a list of words that are most often employed on the test. This is much better than studying a dictionary. It also provides sentences to give examples of how the words are used, etc.

This is a great book, and has been very helpful for me.

Small book, but don't judge it by, well you know... 4 out of 5 stars.

So far, using the Barron's guide has been beneficial. Since the book is not 30 pounds like other GRE study guides, I feel less intimidated about studying. Also, even though it's a small book, I don't feel like it's missing anything. I've got just a little more confidence about standardized tests now.

I bought this as a supplement to the thicker Barron's GRE Review and I could have done with one or the other. If you just want a quick review, then this is a great option. It is FULL of information and tips and everything that can be found in the thicker book but in a lot less detail. I personally preferred the larger book because I wanted more review problems and such but if you just want to brush up on a few skills and grab a few REALLY helpful pointers, then get this book. My only complaint was that it didn't have enough review problems but it's not even a true negative. Helpful study guide.

I bought this book prior to my taking the ACT for the first time and I must say it was helpful. The great advantage is that this book is written by the test makers and you know that the sample tests are similar to the actual test. This way, you really get the best practice and you are "surprised" on the day of the test with questions you've never seen before. Another great advantage is the sample tests (something you can not get in any other ACT preparation book). Unfortunately, there are only 2 sample tests. The explanations (for the sample tests and also for the other sample questions) are thorough but you can't really get enough practice with this book.

Also, if you are looking for a book that will "teach" you the material, this isn't it. The book contains mainly strategies.

In conclusion, if you are looking for general information in regards to the ACT and some sample question, just to get familiar with the test - this is the book for you. If you are looking for more than that, you should buy this book and another one with the math/science material.

If you plan on taking the chemistry GRE, you should probably get this book. It is fairly inexpensive. However, it isn't as good as it should be and isn't worth much more. The book explain the test and goes over almost all the key material on the exam. It includes one full length practice exam that is unavailable online. It also has a few other practice problems. These are the key reasons to get the book.

The downsides are numerous. They basically mean that you need additional preparation. If you have your old text books and notes, they'd help a lot, but I didn't save mine. The book has maybe a dozen errors in it, which can be quite confusing. It really should have been through another printing by now to fix those. It contains only one practice test which i find inadequate. I'd like 5 in total and only two are available online, the offical ETS practice book, and one of the old ETS practice books. This book should have maybe 2 more practice exams in it.

Basically, get the book, be careful of the errors, but don't be foolish and think you can rely on this book alone.
