Editorial Review:

Comprehensive, Rigorous Prep for the LSAT (Includes 4 official LSATs) To prepare properly for the LSAT, you must study problems that reflect the true LSAT format. The best way to do that is to study actual LSAT tests. Now, you can do that with this book! Master The LSAT contains detailed solutions to numerous actual LSAT questions, carefully selected to illustrate every type of question that has appeared on the test in the past several years, including thorough analysis of 4 official LSATs! These solutions will introduce you to numerous analytic techniques that will help you immensely not only on the LSAT but in law school as well. The LSAT is an aptitude test. Like all aptitude tests, it must choose a medium in which to measure intellectual ability. The LSAT has chosen logic. Although this makes the LSAT hard, it also makes the test predictable--it is based on fundamental principles of logic. Master The LSAT analyzes and codifies these basic principles: the contrapositive, the if-then, pivotal words, etc. Armed with this knowledge, you will have the ability to greatly increase your score. Features:
* Analytical Reasoning: Learn powerful diagramming techniques and step-by-step strategies to solve every type of game question that has appeared on the LSAT.
* Logical Reasoning: Discover the underlying simplicity of these problems and learn the principles of logic these questions are based on.
* Reading Comprehension: Develop the ability to spot places from which questions are likely to be drawn as you read a passage (pivotal words, counter-premises, etc.).
* Mentor Exercises: These exercises provide hints, insight, and partial solutions to ease your transition from seeing LSAT problems solved to solving them on your own.
* Complete analysis of 4 official LSATs.
* Official score conversion charts and writing samples for each test.
* The average LSAT scores of 153 ABA approved law schools.
Also includes LSAT test prep software Software features:
Mentor Mode: In Mentor Mode, you are immediately told whether you answered a problem correctly, and you can immediately view a detailed solution of the problem.
Test Mode: In Test Mode, you can take a test timed and scored by the program.

Actual, Official, Older(?) 3 out of 5 stars.
3 of 3 people found this review helpful.

I bought this book after using the LSAC's The Official LSAT SuperPrep and The Next 10 Actual, Official LSAT PrepTest (Lsat Series). These older tests, though roughly identical in format, have very different questions from those found on newer tests. I began to notice the difference after having taken two tests with remarkably poor performance on the logic games. I then completed the most recent test I owned, The Official LSAT PrepTest 51 and earned a score more in line with what I had projected.
The simple LSAT prep advice of taking as many tests as possible holds true, but I strongly recommend using more current materials.

Best of a Bad Bunch 5 out of 5 stars.
1 of 1 people found this review helpful.

This book is very good. It does contain errors. It is also the case that these errors are really just lazy editing, which is annoying. It is further the case that in many instances, the explaination for which answer is the correct answer is just bad or misses the point. But this is true of all such prep books--incl. the other big one in this area, Powerscore's LSAT Logic Games Bible. But given that they all suck, you mught as well go with the one that sucks the least. I give it 5 stars because it is the best there is, not because it could not be better, and I think that is probably what is most relevant to LSAT students.

And, dispite these problems, the book really does give you good stratergies and lots of good practice. I used both this book and the bible, and together they helped me turn the games section from my most feared into my most productive. I got a perfect in this section on the June 2008 LSAT. It was a pretty easy logic games section, admittedly, but I certainly would not have aced it without these books.

One last word of advice: If you are going to use this book, WORK your way through it, don't just meander through it. That means even when you get an answer right, read their set-up and explaination. See how they approched it, and (if it was different to your approach) if you would have done better answering it their way. Time is obviously a HUGE factor in the LSAT, and even when you get it right, others might have a better (quicker) way to get there. At least this was often the case for me.

A Must-Have 4 out of 5 stars.
1 of 1 people found this review helpful.

Contrary to what another reviewer said, this book doesn't have two full-length exams, or at least not the edition I have (2005). It has the AM and PM sections of a full-length exam.

Other reviews also mention the tips in this book, but the real value in this book is all the actual MBE questions from past exams as well as the explanation to those questions (including the full-length exam). I have found that the barbri and PMBR questions and answer choices are noticeably different much of the time from these past questions and their answer choices. Both companies make their questions long, and barbri's are unnecessarily long. But most actual questions are short. Barbri's explanations are also long and repetitive, whereas the explanations in this book are more concise. Most importantly, these questions are harder than the ones you're doing from barbri and even PMBR. Even the majority of the questions in the one barbri book that has past MBE questions in it are easier in comparison. If you can understand the questions/explanations in this book, you will be prepared for the bar.

As for the tips, I have found around two or three extremely valuable ones in each section that I've read so far. This is not to say the majority of the tips/writing in the book is helpful or that you can use this book without barbri/subject outlines. But the helpful tips that I got out of this book are ones that barbri doesn't spell out and I wouldn't have figured out on my own. Those tips alone really will raise your score, because you will get at least a few more questions right in every single subject from them.

I agree that this book is pricey, but if you can find a cheaper copy somewhere then that's your best bet because you need this book.

If you use the Powerscore Logic Games Bible, this book is a must-have companion.

Inadequate 3 out of 5 stars.
4 of 4 people found this review helpful.

I bought this book about a month ago to help me understand some of the past games. The fact is I thought the book's set-ups were quite inadequate. Each set-up only contained a few sentences. In addition, the solution to some of the questions aren't even included with the set-ups, which coincidentally were always the ones I had problem solving. So while the book is better that nothing, don't expect to understand all the games given in the time period by just reading this book.

Editorial Review:
