This books is important not only for providing examples of the various types of logic games on the LSAT, but because it demonstrates the best ways to tackle them and helps improve time on what is arguably the most difficult portion of the LSAT. The LSAT taker needs to look at a logic game and not hesitate to break it down and complete it. This book will vastly improve the ability to accomplish that.

Editorial Review:

Kaplan's LSAT Logic Games Workbook features:

·  Only real, official LSAT questions used throughout the book

·  More than 40 Logic Games—10 from tests as recent as 2003 - 2007

Kaplan prepares you for failure 2 out of 5 stars.
1 of 1 people found this review helpful.

I am taking the LSAT in less than 2 weeks. As you can imagine, I have been studying hard for the last month. I have completed two programs so far, the one offered by Kaplan and the one offered by Princeton Review.

I did the Kaplan one first, and though I did not find the "tips" useful (such as, "use scratch work", "slow down to speed up"), I thought it was a fair preparation course and was pleased with my results on the practice tests included.

Then I got to the Princeton book and was blown away by the difference. Less fluff, more serious analysis, more detailed break down and strategies. It is really beyond compare. And, the drill questions in the Princeton book were MUCH harder. This is to your benefit.

You can compare the books yourself.

Princeton spends 98 pages on analysis of logical reasoning, Kaplan spends 17 pages.

(I am only counting advice, analysis and tips, not practice questions.)

Games, 96 pages in Princeton, 21 in Kaplan.

Reading Comprehension, 33 Princeton, 15 in Kaplan.

The difference really is that dramatic.

Kaplan has a "better score guarantee" -- well I guarantee, you will not be prepared if you use Kaplan's program.

It would almost be impossible to not increase your score at least marginally by the time your next test rolls around because you will at least be aware that scratch paper is not allowed (mentioned in Princeton, not Kaplan) and other reality checks that will come from actually taking the test.

I do not work for any of these companies, I am just a student. I feel like Kaplan's program is borderline sabotage and will only give a false sense of security. Kaplan gets 2 stars from me because I am giving them the benefit of the doubt, regarding malicious intent.

If you are preparing for the LSATs, buy the Princeton book. Buy 10 actual previously administered tests from LSAC (this is the most accurate way to assess your progress). Give yourself at least 4 weeks to study. Set a calendar and stick to it, and also take advantage of all online resources available for additional practice.

You should also buy a digital kitchen timer to help with pacing.

Only if you've run out of other prep material 3 out of 5 stars.
0 of 0 people found this review helpful.

This book is supposed to contain the most difficult questions to prepare a LSAT taker for the toughest LSAT questions.

Logic Games - The 20 logic games in the book are difficult, but aren't really like real games you are likely to encounter on test day, especially in the current LSAT era. There are some other books with good practice games. The games included in the book are rather clunky, confusing you weird rules and game types rather than challenging you to make key inferences. The games are ok if you just want a mental workout, but I'm not convinced it's good LSAT prep.

Logical Reasoning - The LR questions included in the book are actually not that hard. I've encountered much more difficult questions on actual preptests. The questions here I'd say are similar to the medium difficulty LSAT questions. If you are getting 2-3 wrong on LR sections, the questions in this book will be a piece of cake for you.

Reading Comprehension - The 12 passages are not really like what you will encounter on an LSAT. LSAT passages have a particular structure to them in terms of argumentation style and flow. But if you just want some hard to read passages just to get your brain used to reading, then doing these passages is not worse than reading the Economist, which is what most people who want extra practice at RC recommend.

Overall, I'd say that if you've exhausted all of your other preptests and still want some work to do, go ahead. But I didn't find these questions that representative nor did it really prepare me for getting a top percentile score.

Useful, but not priority #1 4 out of 5 stars.
25 of 26 people found this review helpful.

There is some question of the utility of this book. All of these tests were created in whole or in part before the current LSAT test producer (ACT) took over from LSAS. PrepTests before 11 (including 18 & 16) were made entirely by LSAS. Tests 12-15 were partly written by ACT but they had to use some of LSAS's questions. After December 1995 all the tests were made wholy by ACT (Preptest 17, the "Official LSAT PrepTest with Explanations", the SuperPrep tests, and PrepTests 19+).

I took every PrepTest available and I can say that the October 2005 and more recent tests are different than tests in this book. That doesn't mean the book lacks utility. It's a great study tool but you'll see some question types that are no longer used or are used rarely (for instance, there haven't been logical reasoning questions that have two questions for a single prompt for awhile). The games in this book will also be more difficult than what you'll probably experience on the LSAT. If you only had 10 LSAT PrepTests to take I would recommend the most recent tests you can get. If you're going to take more tests then, by all means, get this book. Just realize it's a little different and don't freak out if your scores change when you begin to take more recent tests.

This book contains:
PrepTest 18; December 1992
PrepTest 7; February 1993
PrepTest 9; October 1993
PrepTest 10; February 1994
PrepTest 11; June 1994
PrepTest 12; October 1994
PrepTest 13; December 1994
PrepTest 14; February 1995
PrepTest 15; June 1995
PrepTest 16; September 1995

Editorial Review:

LSAT PrepTests are actual, previously administered LSATs. For pure practice at an unbelievable price, you can't beat 10 PrepTests for $29-purchased individually, these 10 practice tests would cost $80. Each test includes an answer key, writing sample, and score-conversion table.

Teaches how to structure an answer. 5 out of 5 stars.

I took BarBri and PMBR. However, neither taught a SYSTEM for writing essay responses. So, I searched for a system and found this book. After practicing the author's "Under Here Therefor" method, and her question-outlining method, I felt much more prepared.

I just passed Nevada's bar exam...one of the more difficult exams. I used the system. I credit this book for making the exam manageable.

Spend the fifty bucks now, and avoid failing!

Editorial Review:

Essay-writing can account for fifty per cent or more of your bar exam score, yet even the best bar review courses often don't teach how to write lawyer-like essays. Packed with expert essay-writing systems and confidence-building practice, it features: Quick Key Outlining system for hitting the issues, focusing on the law, and scoring high with less writing Model Paragraph system for "writing like a lawyer"--even though you don't know your conclusion when you start writing 80 actual bar exam practice questions on the most frequently tested areas of law, including crucial state law subjects, with sample answers A review of how state bar examiners have graded actual essays--and real examples of the best and worst ways to respond to essay questions

You're Better Off With Other Books Than This One 1 out of 5 stars.
0 of 0 people found this review helpful.

As a professional LSAT tutor/blogger in NYC, I would not suggest this book for any of my students. I've seen students literally go from only 10 or 11 right to 20+ per section, and above, after working with me using books of real LSAT exams. The drills and the diagramming techniques that this book provides are useless. LSAC's books of real exams, and the Powerscore Bibles, blow Kaplan's books out of the water.

Finally! 5 out of 5 stars.
2 of 3 people found this review helpful.

I've never been able to understand why there was no book out there that just focuses on LSAT reading comp. I mean, this section actually has more questions than the games. I've been studying for the LSAT for a few months now and always wished there was something that could help me in this section. So I was really happy when I discovered this book.

I like how they broke things down by logical structure instead of topic (why didn't anyone else think of this?) There is a good treatment of all the different passage types and question types, and a lot of examples, including dozens of real passages. The writing style is clear and doesn't dumb things down. I recommend getting the Examkrackers complete study package and some official tests, and that's all you need.

Will it really help boost your RC score? Maybe. 4 out of 5 stars.
2 of 2 people found this review helpful.

I'm going to review this book from the perspective of someone who has already done some LSAT prep and has trouble with reading comprehension because I think that's the kind of person this book appeals to primarily.

There are many reasons why a person may be doing poorly in reading comprehension.

If you had no time limit, would you be able to answer the question? Did you misread the passage? Did you misread the question? Did you comprehend the passage? The answer to these questions will determine where you will be able to gain improvement.

If you are getting questions wrong because you don't really understand what the questions are asking you, then this book will help. This book lays out the question types and helps you understand how to answer them.

However, I find that usually, this isn't most people's problem. For the most part, the difficulty of RC is time management. After the fact, a question like "the passage mentions each of the following EXCEPT" is pretty easy. You have to scan through the passage to see what it mentions and what it doesn't. Pretty easy right?

Well, when you are trying to read the passage AND answer everything in under 9 minutes, it becomes a lot tougher. A lot of gains come from learning to be more efficient in the way you recall information and spend less time going back and forth from passage to questions.

This book isn't bad. But if your primary problem is time management, I think your results with this book will be limited because this isn't what the book focuses on.

I mention that because if you're someone who has been having problems with RC and see this book and think "Yes! This will solve all of my problems", I think you might be disappointed.

Again, that is not to say it's a bad book, but if you're getting 5-6 wrong and want to get it down to 2-3, I'm not convinced this book will get you there. If you are getting 10+ wrong, this book will probably help you.
