Definitely Not The Best Guide 2 out of 5 stars.
15 of 15 people found this review helpful.

I bought this book because it has a nice layout and seemed to have all of the necessary facts on ABA-approved law schools. Having gone through the application process, I realize that this book falls flat on several levels. To start with, some of the data is incorrect. For example, almost all of the application fees listed are less that they actually are. Also, there is very little context about the schools. For example, what is a school known for? Is it a large, ultra competitive environment, does it pride itself on cooperation and close-knit atmosphere, or somewhere in-between? A prospective student can make assumptions from the data alone, but contextual information rounds out the data. Further, admissions are mostly made on GPA & LSAT scores but there are no grids or numerical breakdowns; there are only median values. My best advice is to go to the LSAC's website and review the online version of the "Official Guide to ABA-Approved Law Schools." This guide offers statistical data, school info, links to law schools, and data filtering tools so you can interactively track infomation relevant to you (e.g., your statistical chance of getting into a school based on your GPA & LSAT). Overall, it has a lot more to offer than the Barron's Guide.

Editorial Review:

This exceptionally useful directory for aspiring law students has been brought up to date with the latest information on more than 190 ABA-approved law schools across the United States. Profiles present details on admission requirements, academic programs, the school calendar, a capsule description of the faculty, library facilities, tuition and fees, available financial aid, graduation requirements, professional organizations, and student body composition. Several non-ABA schools get brief summary profiles in a section of their own. The book also offers advice on choosing a law school, getting career counseling, taking the Law School Admission Test (LSAT), and applying to a law school. A sample LSAT with answers and explanations is a bonus feature in this directory.

Editorial Review:

When you read the Amazon reviews for LSAT prep books, you will see that many make the same recommendation. They recommend that you buy real LSAT tests-specifically "10 More Actual Official LSAT PrepTests."

Unfortunately, there is a dilemma if you use real LSATs. As all the reviewers will caution you, "10 More Actual Official LSAT PrepTests" contains NO explanations for why the correct answers are correct and why the wrong answers are wrong. So, if the answer key says (C) is correct, and you don’t understand why, then expect to be very frustrated. Also, the "10 More" book gives no advice for how to solve the problems, how to diagram the games, how to eliminate wrong answers, or how to use simple strategies and shortcuts to find the correct answers.

"LSAT Answers" solves this problem. It explains all 1010 question in "10 More Actual Official LSAT PrepTests." It has detailed analysis and contains the vital strategies, techniques, tricks, and tips you need to achieve an excellent score. It reveals the testing patterns that are repeated year after year.

Use LSAT Answers and learn how to:

Analytical Reasoning Puzzle Games –
Choose and execute the correct diagram (hint, there are only four common diagrams).
Skip the diagramming step for many questions. You will save time, yet still answer them correctly 100% of the time.
Significantly and quickly improve your score in the puzzle games.

Logical Reasoning –
Find the correct answer, faster, by identifying the key issues.
Avoid the "red-flag words" that fool most test takers.
Master the three question types that account for 65% of your logical reasoning score.

Reading Comprehension –
Read for the only three issues that are tested.
Maximize your efficiency if you are a slow reader.

Thousands of Get Prepped classroom students have used "LSAT Answers" to raise their scores. Now you can obtain the same time-tested strategies and techniques for the price of this book.

If you buy only two LSAT prep books, buy "LSAT Answers" and "10 More Actual Official LSAT PrepTests."

Worst LSAT book out there 1 out of 5 stars.
14 of 14 people found this review helpful.

In preparing for the LSAT, I have used a wide variety of study guides--10 Actual, Official LSAT PrepTests, 10 More Actual Official PrepTests, Kaplan's LSAT 2004, Kaplan's LSAT 180, Princeton Review's Cracking the LSAT 2004, and this one. In comparison, this book offers you NOTHING. The practice tests are not in the same format as on the LSAT, the questions are often nothing like the ones you see on the real tests, and, as everyone who has reviewed it has said, there are basic editorial errors throughout. Don't waste your money on this book. If you want to do well on the LSAT, this is the way to study:

Your first two purchases should be Kaplan's (or Princeton's, if you prefer) most current LSAT guide and 10 More Actual, Official LSAT PrepTests. Kaplan's book will give you a good intro to the test, along with 3 full tests with a detailed analysis for each question. The PrepTest book will give you plenty of real, recently-administered LSATs to take, though without question analysis. Just getting used to taking the test is the most important part of the preparation process, and between the two books, 13 full tests should be plenty.

If, after 4 or 5 tests, you're noticing your scores plateau around 165, and you want to bump them up, get Kaplan's LSAT 180. It is full of the toughest questions that Kaplan's crew could come up with (along with a few nasty ones you might see adapted from real questions on LSAC's PrepTests), and strategies on how to approach them. The regular, yearly guides are a great way to start studying, but they will only take you so far. LSAT 180 can take you the rest of the way, as its name implies. You should be warned beforehand though--these are THE TOUGHEST questions you will find anywhere. If you can handle these, most of the actual test will seem like cake.

If you burn through all of Kaplan's Tests--including the free online one--and all 10 Actual tests (Like I did), you can always get the older 10 Actual, Official LSAT PrepTests. It's still good prep; the only difference is that the tests are older--December '92 is the oldest; September '95 is the most recent. Some minor things have changed: the older tests are a little harder, which means a lower raw score here translates into a higher scaled score; the wording of questions is different; and some of the types of logic games that are on the newer tests aren't on these. However, if you've taken all the tests in the more recent book, and you know what to expect to see on the actual test, taking the PrepTests in this book is a good way to keep your practice going.

Also, both LSAC.org and Amazon have individual PrepTests available for $8 apiece. You can get all the most recent tests--sometimes right up to the one most recently administered. These aren't as good a deal as the books of 10, but seeing the most recent material--even if it's just 1 or 2 tests--is worth it. Though I haven't taken it, I've heard that PrepTest 31 (June 2000) has the most difficult Logic Game ever on it... that might be worth checking out.

Anyway, that's about it. If you want to prepare for the LSAT as thoroughly and effectively as possible, this is the way to do it. As for REA's book, don't bother.

Editorial Review:

This test preparation book includes six full-length exams with detailed explanations based on official LSAT exams released by the test administrators. Logical and analytical reasoning, reading comprehension, and writing skills retested. Includes the complete LSAT Test Prep book plus interactive software. The software offers two complete exams under actual exam conditions with controlled timing and question order. It automatically scores test performance, provides analysis, and directions for further study. Includes Windows and Macintosh disks. Suitable for any PC with 4 MB of RAM minimum, Windows 98 or later. Any Macintosh with a 68020 or higher processor, 4 MB of RAM minimum, System 7.1 or later. For undergraduate students bound for law school.

Go with Powerscore instead 3 out of 5 stars.
10 of 11 people found this review helpful.

Despite reading many reviews saying that Powerscore had the best materials available, I decided to start with the Princeton Review book. I've taken the GRE and the GMAT already, and Princeton Review study materials has served me well for both. After doing a few chapters of this book, I put in away and moved on to Powerscore.

I think that Powerscore offers superior strategies for tackling each section, but that's probably just a matter of personal choice.

I also appreciate the tone of the Powerscore books. It's hard to explain the difference, but Princeton Review's LSAT books have the same tone as their SAT books. They just seem a bit unprofessional.

But the one unquestionable reason to go with Powerscore is the real LSAT questions. I saw that mentioned in so many reviews when I was shopping for my prep books but never really understood how it could make much difference. Having practiced with real LSAT questions and Princeton Review questions, I can say without a doubt that the real questions are better. LSAT questions have to be reviewed thoroughly before being included in the test; they don't include questions that people could argue about. Accordingly, when I practiced with real LSAT questions, I always understood the reasoning... even if I missed the question and had to go back to reconsider. When I studied with Princeton Review, however, I frequently questioned their logic. Several times, I found myself moving on to the nest question thinking "I don't really buy it; let's hope the LSAT has better questions than that."

Don't bother second-guessing. Buy a book that uses real LSAT questions instead.

Flawed, yet it's a must have for LSAT preparation 4 out of 5 stars.
0 of 0 people found this review helpful.

This book has been helpful for 2 reasons:
1. The problems are the same style as the ones on the LSAT, but MUCH harder. The scenarios and rules are more convoluted. Therefore they are great practice material.
2. There's 100 of them. You won't find more problems in any other single book.

I would recommend reading the Logic Games Bible first, then using this as practice. And DO NOT WORRY ABOUT TIME on these games, since they are way harder than real LSAT logic games.

BTW, there are some errors, but I don't think as many as other people have suggested. Specifically the answers of Game 15 I believe are wrong, but I haven't found other mistakes so far. But what you really need to get better at logic games is hard practice through deep thinking, and this book will provide that.

nothing like the real thing 5 out of 5 stars.
60 of 75 people found this review helpful.

This book gives you several real tests and the corect instructions on how to simulate the real enviroment. You can either prepare for the test in two different ways. One is to take a prep class and that will cost you a ton of money. Or two, you could buy the books and teach yourself. This book gives you several previously given test, with answers and explinations at the end of each one. ITS WORTH IT.

Explanations are Very Basic! 3 out of 5 stars.
29 of 29 people found this review helpful.

I had to reconsider my review after evaluating the explanations on the games section. On this section, the explanations are not as helpful because there are no illustrated diagrams. Instead, there are short mini-paragraphs that require a bit more effort and time reading into.

On the other sections however, there are explanations for every question. A downside though is that you have to flip back at the beginning of the book for the question -- the explanations do not restate the question at all. Also, the explanations are pretty basic; you get very few special insights or "insider" strategies.

Overall, the book was more like a regular LSAT Testprep. If you require explanations, perhaps you should try Nova's "Master the LSAT" where you also get plenty of strategies.

At the cover price, this book is not worth it. I recommend getting Nova's "Master the LSAT" and/or "10 Actual, Official LSATs" instead of this book.

** Please note, the TriplePrep Plus does not contain explanations at all. Currently, this is the only book by the LSAT makers that contains explanations for one WHOLE test. Unfortunately, the explanations here do not compensate for the extra cost above a regular LSAT Testprep.

Editorial Review:

This great preparation tool includes a previously undisclosed official LSAT (February 1997), with explanations for each and every question in all four multiple-choice sections.

I thought this was an extremely helpful guide during my law school admissions process. I received quite a few tips on narrowing down my selections, essays and other factors involved in the process.
