good guideline 4 out of 5 stars.

It is an easy read with practical advise. This book basically uses examples to illustrate real life situation. For example, when kids are in the car and someone releases gas, come up with a code word (hers was safety) that alerts other of this uncomfortable situation. This book also talks about basic etiquette and how and when to illustrate it for your kids such as introduction or not correcting other peoples manners, etc. Buy either this or How to Raise A Lady. Don't buy them both, THEY ARE THE SAME BOOKS. One just uses her son for the example, the other her daughter.

Editorial Review:

How to Raise a Gentleman is an invaluable resource for parents who hope their little boys will grow up to be the kind of men who know which fork to use, how to treat others, and will generally make their parents proud. How to Raise a Gentleman focuses on real-life topics such as: being a good sport, playing the game, and - especially for boys - "personal habits: farting, belching, and scratching." The book includes: - Personal stories pertaining to each topic - Suggestions for the age at which a parent should introduce a child to certain rules - Helpful ideas in easy-to-remember phrases - And suggestions that parents can follow to "teach by example"

Protocol Procedures 5 out of 5 stars.

A "must have" book for people working with international organizations and high level military people. An excellent guide for everything from addressing VIPs to preparing invitations.

Good content, poorly organized 3 out of 5 stars.
3 of 3 people found this review helpful.

The information in this book is indispensable for anyone communicating or doing business with government officials in the U.S. and abroad. However, I must say that it needs some serious editorial attention.

As this is a reference book, I find it incomprehensible that there is no index for the section on titles and forms of address. For example, if I am preparing a letter to a foreign cabinet minister, I should be able to easily find the page number rather than flip through almost 200 pages of listings.

I recommend this book because there apparently are no alternatives on the market. However, if the publisher is reading this, PLEASE consider a more comprehensive table of contents for the next edition.

Editorial Review:

Congratulations! Your little girl is getting married! Once the initial excitement of the announcement wears off, it becomes clear that Mother of the Bride is not just a title. It's a role, with responsibilities and do's and don'ts.

The Mother-of-the-Bride Book explains that role and how it has changed over time. It details the exact responsibilities of the Mother of the Bride (MOB) from the earliest planning stages right up to waving good-bye as the newlyweds depart for their honeymoon--and even after that. The MOB may be involved in or completely responsible for: Putting together the guest list and designing a seating chart; Helping the bride and groom choose a date and location; Throwing an engagement party; Arranging lodging for out-of-town guests; Booking a band, hiring a caterer, buying favors; Countless other details that can't be overlooked.

Chock full of ideas and advice, The Mother-of-the-Bride Book is an invaluable tool for the second busiest and (admit it) second most important woman in any wedding.

Editorial Review:

Launched in 1936 in the "Sunday Post" in Scotland, The Broons are undoubtedly Scotland's first family - the Nation's favourites - with a readership covering all generations. The Broons 'annual' sells over 100,000 copies. This is a facsimile of Maw Broon's very own cookbook, which we borrowed from the sideboard at No. 10 Glebe Street - first made for her by her mother-in-law when 'Maw' married 'Paw', and added-to over the years with recipes for every day and special days, from friends and neighbours and others that simply caught Maw's eye in "The Sunday Post", or cut-out of the backof a flour bag. These are the very recipes that became the favourite dishes of the whole extended family - Maw and Paw, Granpaw, Daphne, Horace, Joe, Maggie, Hen, the Twins and 'the bairn'.The strip itself is still hugely popular, with the "Sunday Post" having a circulation of over 1,000,000 copies every week, and there are some examples of the strip from years gone by that Maw must have clipped into her Cookbook- perhaps as reminders of special days. We've just left the 'bits and pieces' that you find tucked into a cookbook, exactly as we found them - stains and all. "Maw Broon's Cookbook" is published at a time when nostalgia items are extremely popular, and although obviously firm favourites in Scotland, there will be interest nationwide, with support and endorsement from celebrity names - Gordon Ramsay, Lorraine Kelly, Ewan McGregor to name a few. The BBC's Robbie Shepherd and Tom Morton will lend a hand too! There will be promotion in DC Thomson's portfolio of newspapers and magazines - including "The Sunday Post", "The Courier", "The Scots Magazine", and "The People's Friend".

Okay, depending on what you want 3 out of 5 stars.
26 of 29 people found this review helpful.

Most of this book was irrelevant for what I wanted. I was looking for a source for religiously-oriented vows, prayers, and blessings which I could use to create an ecumenical wedding service. This book DOES have a section of such things --and I did find it useful for comparison purposes-- but the main emphasis is on contemporary vows, addresses, etc., most of which seemed just too fluffy for me. If you do want very emotionally-laden, "unique to you" and non-traditional wedding, go for this. If you seriously want to compare weddings from different Judeo-Christian traditions, I highly recommend _Weddings: A Complete Guide to All Religious and Interfaith Marriage Services_ instead.

More than words can say ... Kingma is king of vows! 5 out of 5 stars.

I plan to elope and have never wanted to say the standard religious vows from my Roman Catholic childhood. Kingma is a master of words. Capturing love is not easy. Saying the most with the least is the magic. Bring illumination into your personal ceremony with Daphne's wisdom. Better yet, consider having her as your marriage officiant.

Editorial Review:

The author of True Love and Coming Apart offers a combination of contemporary and traditional ceremonies, poetry, and practical advice to help couples make their wedding day unique and understand the meaning behind the wedding ceremony. Original. IP.

Gorgeous photography, inspiring and delightful to view 5 out of 5 stars.

I am astounded at the creativity displayed in the pages of this book. Some of the food show within its pages are indeed "to lovely to eat". I never cease to be amazed at the creativity that some people have in preparing a dish and having the level of artistry to make it look so beautiful, whimsical and appealing!

A picture is worth a thousand words? I think not... 4 out of 5 stars.
1 of 1 people found this review helpful.

Pretty pictures...lots of them. (Though I did expect them to be in high gloss, not just printed on the page - The colors seem muted.)
Not practical for actually reconstructing said Bentos, there are no directions (other than for some cheesy "beginner" ones in the appendix.) Under a picture of your desired character it will simply say "ham, eggs, nori, fishcake, rice, cucumber. . ." you have to figure out what made what. Amazing pictures, though! Enough so that I don't own this book yet (sat in Barnes and Noble and perused it for 30 minutes) but I intend to make it one of my next purchases.

Editorial Review:

All across Japan, parents come up with unique ways to bring attention to their children's lunch boxes. And what better way to make children eat than to turn their midday meals into a cartoon? With Face Food, Christopher D Salyers documents the very real phenomenon of crafting food into visually creative and appealing forms, such as Pikachu, Daraemon and Cindarella, bringing health, heart and imagination to the bento box. How-to guides and articles by designers and chefs accompany photographs, all of which illuminate the dynamic reasons behind this wholly Japanese pursuit.

Book is good my wife likes it. (Martha Fan)
However I paid for fast delivery and it took a week to get the book! I missed my wifes birthday because of slow delivery.

My 18 year old copy is still an inspiration! 5 out of 5 stars.

This is NOT A COOKBOOK! This book is more a guide to throwing a great party that includes recipes as a bonus.
The guide to setting up a bar alone makes it worth having.
There are so many excellent ideas in here, beautiful photos, an emphasis on presentation and beautiful food....that never goes out of style.

Takes the Think out of planning a party 5 out of 5 stars.

I love her book because she thought of everything so you don't have to reinvent the wheel. She has menus for parties of 25 and 50 guests so you know how much and step by step instructions on how to organize it, cook it and present it. Great book if you entertain and want an easy process!

With 500 glorious full-color photographs, 300 original recipes, and hundreds of innovative ideas, Entertaining is the book that revolutionized the way people entertain today. 500 full-color photographs.

Editorial Review:

There's a social aspect to golf that's unique to the sport. It's the only sport where you're building relationships at the same time that you're trying to play your best and win—and maybe close a business deal. While the rules of golf are clearly defined, the etiquette of golf is less codified. Making the wrong move can cause annoyance, errors in play, or even injury—all things your fellow golfers won't forget.

Now bestselling etiquette authority and passionate golfer Peter Post explains what seasoned golfers and newcomers need to know to handle every situation with total confidence. Based on Emily Post Institute surveys on golfers' most annoying incidents on the course, Peter addresses:

  • How to deal with the biggest frustration in golf—slow play.
  • What to do if you break the cardinal rule of never being late.
  • When is a "gimme" acceptable?
  • The difference between friendly play and tournament play.
  • Dealing with sandbaggers and other cheats.
  • Do's and don'ts when playing for "a little something."

Peter Post's useful tips on the subtleties of the game—such as how and when to offer advice, strategies for speeding up play, and "piniquette"—will help longtime golfers be better companions on the course. New golfers unsure of the unwritten social rules of golf will find all the information they need to avoid embarrassment. Packed with true stories from golfers about best moments and worst behavioral blunders on the course—ranging from the sandbagger who cheated himself out of an eagle to a wardrobe malfunction that gave new meaning to the term "You're out"—this book is for anyone who appreciates the spirit of the game.
