I am astounded at the review that is listed below me. Talk about nit-picking!
This is the only pocket dictionary that is sturdy enough to carry around in your pocket without falling apart in days. The Oxford dictionary is held together with cheap glue. This is just fine for my purposes. If I need to look up an obscure word I just wait until I get home to my bigger dictionary.

I found this Dictionary very helpful as a quick reference while traveling within The Dominican Republic. It was easy to move through and would recommend it as a reference guide for anyone learning Spanish.

Great reference! I purchased this dictionary to use while brushing up on my Spanish thru a conversational Spanish class. Every time I have needed to reference a word, this book has allowed me to get the appropriate word quickly!

THE more I read it the more I enjoy my everydays life, people is getting used to complain and to get anxious about the future and they forget to live their beautiful lives, everybody's life is beautiful...and I have learned to enjoy life more since I read this book, highly recommended for those who keep worrying and never enjoy life.

Much better than a generic ESL book. 5 out of 5 stars.

I teach English to adult Latinos, and the generic ESL text (i.e., a book not designed for speakers of a specific foreign language) we were using earlier was just awful. My students really love using this book, and I can absolutely notice a marked improvement in their English. One caveat is that if you are an ESL tutor or teacher, you need to have a good knowledge of Spanish in order to make proper use of this text.

This book is a great place to start if you are interested in learning about the life of someone less priviledged than yourself. Perhaps it will help you appreciate the simple pleasures in life and everything that you've got. When you reach the end of the book, you'll be glad Jimenez wrote a sequel (Breaking Through).
Written in a language that is accessible to everyone from grade school to adulthood, Jimenez doesn't exaggerate details or go into a lot of long desriptions. It's simply his memories of his childhood in a migrant family. As all memories go, the book does not flow smoothly from chapter to chapter, but rather gives you snapshots of his life, so take it for what it is and don't worry about the chronology.
As a teacher, this book really helped me appreciate the lives and struggles of many of my students (who lead lives similar to Jimenez in his childhood).

I have tried numerous language programs each with different approaches to learning. Each of these have their pros and cons. Speak in a week, if you can dedicate time everyday, does just that. It got me up and conversational quickly. I liked the format and the conversation focus. The first week was easily completed in a week and provided some necessary basics. Each subsequent week was a little more challenging and therefore a little difficult to complete in a week. If you have the necessary time this would also be obtainable. The content of each week is useful and I always felt like I was making good progress and learning useful aspects of the language for use in day to day conversation.
