Writing Romantic Fiction 5 out of 5 stars.
0 of 0 people found this review helpful.

What a truly user friendly book! The lay-out and easy language is perfect for want-to-be writers. All the important points are set out with a view to being easy on the eye; I didn't have to wade through pages of information without a break. Having the nitty-gritty explained and exampled has made my belief, that I can write a book and have it published, even stronger. The fact that I have read countless books by Daphne Clair and Robyn Donald also gave me an added sense of confidence in what I was reading was going to help me a great deal. I thoroughly recommend this book to any budding writers of Romance.

Editorial Review:

A handbook for writers that includes chapters on fiction techniques, heroes and heroines, plot and subplots, emotional impact, tension, focus, pace, setting, and language. Combining two writers' styles, this book follows the premise that there is no one way to write.

Editorial Review:

Malory's stories of King Arthur and the Round Table have been widely read for centuries, but their author's own life has been as variously reported as that of any Arthurian knight. The first serious attempts to identify him were made in the 1890s, but the man who then seemed most likely to have written the book was later found to have been accused of attempted murder, rape, extortion, and sacrilegious robbery and to have spent ten years or more in prison. Could this be reconciled with the authorship of the most famous chivalric romance in English? Other candidates for authorship were proposed but there was little consensus. This book gives the most comprehensive consideration of the competing arguments yet undertaken. It is a fascinating piece of detective work followed by a full account of the life of the man identified as theMalory. Close consideration of individual documents, many of which were entirely unknown in 1966, when the last book on Malory's life appeared, makes possible a fuller and more convincing story than has ever been told before.Professor P.J.C. FIELD teaches in the Department of English at the University of Wales, Bangor.

Immensely Enjoyable 5 out of 5 stars.
0 of 0 people found this review helpful.

Prior to reading Plains Folk I & II, I had only driven through the Kansas plains region. However, after reading both books, I feel as though I pulled over and spent years there. The authors lack pretentiousness or the annoying desire of most to over "scholar-ize" the content. True to the context from which they write, Hoy and Isern remain down-to-earth and accessible in their approach. They manage to entertain as they present tons of information.
Most importantly, both authors are candid and authentic as they share not only folklore, but their own experiences as well. Both Plains Folk I & II are fun and informative.

Editorial Review:

Love is something quite different in Provence, as Yvone Lenard discovers when she chaperones 50 red-blooded American college students for a year at California State University’s study abroad program in Aix-en-Provence. Proclaiming themselves on their applications to the program to be “ambassadors of culture,” their thoughts and senses turn to romance and sex upon arrival. As Resident Director of the program Lenard soon has her hands full, but her sense of humor prevails and she stays to form affectionate relationships with the students and a love affair with Provence. When not counseling her charges, Lenard finds a “safe” escort in the charming and eccentric Bill Hope, an American expatriate with whom she probes ancient villages and ruins and dines at sunset on the terraces of elegant restaurants. The ten stories in this collection are set in some of the region’s most romantic locales. Each story concludes with advice on where to go to experience romance and a menu for a dinner for two with simple recipes to recreate the sensual flavors of Provence.
