Editorial Review:

Inside the pages of The Everyday Life Bible", readers will experience the opportunity to study Scripture as if Joyce were sitting next to them, chapter by chapter and verse by verse. This Speciality Bible contains five standing features: * Book Introductions--Joyce's thoughts on why each book of the Bible is important and how it relates to practical living, as well as background for better understanding the Bible. * Everyday Life Articles--Highlights of the many principles Joyce has taught over the course of her ministry, each tied to a specific verse or passage to help the reader apply that specific biblical truth to his or her life. * Life Points--Short quotes and comments from Joyce offering readers encouragement and wisdom during challenging times.* Putting the Word to Work--Questions that enable readers to evaluate their lives and apply the Scriptures in their everyday situations. * Speak the Word--Verses adapted to be first-person confessions or prayers (placed near the corresponding verse), bringing the promises of the Bible to a new, personal level. The Everyday Life Bible" takes the wealth of Joyce's teaching and weaves it into the Amplified version of the Bible--the same version she uses on her programme, the same version all her readers can now use at home.

Editorial Review:

This new book argues that the four Gospels are closely based on eyewitness testimony of those who knew Jesus. Noted New Testament scholar Richard Bauckham challenges the prevailing assumption that the accounts of Jesus circulated as "anonymous community traditions," asserting instead that they were transmitted in the name of the original eyewitnesses. To drive home this controversial point, Bauckham draws on internal literary evidence, study of personal names in the first century, and recent developments in the understanding of oral traditions.

Jesus and the Eyewitnesses also taps into the rich resources of modern study of memory and cognitive psychology, refuting the conclusions of the form critics and calling New Testament scholarship to make a clean break with this long-dominant tradition. Finally, Bauckham challenges readers to end the classic division between the "historical Jesus" and the "Christ of faith," proposing instead the "Jesus of testimony." Sure to ignite heated debate on the precise character of the testimony about Jesus, Jesus and the Eyewitnesses will be valued by scholars, students, and all who seek to understand the origins of the Gospels.

Excellent simple translation 5 out of 5 stars.
1 of 1 people found this review helpful.

"The Message" is a great bible for new believers (even to offer as a gift), especially for those who want to see the "big picture" of the Bible. I wouldn't make this a primary study bible--it is a paraphrase.

The most beautiful, inspirational book EVER written. 5 out of 5 stars.
1 of 1 people found this review helpful.

The Message, especially The Message Remix 2.0, is incredible. It's simply the Bible in modern language. BUT there is so much more to this. It's poetic, it's well explained, and it's written in such a way that the context of the pages are easily comprehendable. Each book starts out with Eugene Peterson explaining the whole book, to put it in perfect context. So when you read the book, it makes complete sense! The Bible finally makes sense!!! Each chapter has this heading sentence that explains the main point of the chapter. There are these neat little maps and such, but I can't explain enough the importance of how well written it is. It's to the point, and it explains exactly what the Bible means rather than what the Bible says. That said, you should supplement this "Study Paraphrase Bible" with the NIV, and other translations. You will cherish this wonderful hardbound book. It's truly changed my life and got me and my friends to connect with Jesus Christ on a whole new level. i like to sit down and underline parts that are especially meaningful to me, and then I type those things onto my "men's ministry" website www.roycebarber.com so I really would like to thank Eugene H. Peterson for being a light to help guide my way through this world. God Bless you all. The message can be found for free on BibleGateway.Com but its not the latest one. Thats ok though. Either version is highly articulate.

Great for Tweens & Teens 5 out of 5 stars.

This book is very well written for young, independent readers. I really like the information printed on the margins as well as the content, maps, etc. I highly recommend this study Bible to anyone who wants a deeper understand of God's word.

Very Insightful 5 out of 5 stars.

In the past I have often been confused by the parables and some of the teachings spoken by Jesus Christ in the four gospels. The NIV Bible explains them very carefully by asking questions which allow the reader to understand what Jesus means. For example, in the book of Matthew Jesus teaches by saying "Blessed are the poor in spirit for theirs is the Kingdom of Heaven." I had always been confused by this, but this bible gives this explanation "The Kingdom of Heaven belongs to those who are poor in spirit. Those who recognize their spiritual poverty and see their need for God's help"

This is only one example of the many ways in which the Quest Bible helped to make God's word easier to comprehend for me. I trust that it will do the same for you :)

Editorial Review:

The pace-setting Quest question-and-answer Bible is like no other—and now this revised and expanded edition assists your journey to the meaning and heart of the Scripture even more effectively.

Nonacademic, Storytelling Approach to Explain Book of Revelation.... 4 out of 5 stars.
6 of 6 people found this review helpful.

Dr. Jeremiah in this book, as in his Turning Point television broadcast, uses anecdoctes in explaining scriptural truth, in this case the book of Revelation. Even though Jeremiah is right on theologically, his story-telling style might be frustrating for readers who want to get straight to the verses, word study, context, and just a more academic approach to understanding Revelation. On the other hand, people who enjoy Bible-based fiction or those who just don't want to strain their brain with study, might appreciate being introduced to Revelation through this book. If you like this book, I'd recommend Jeremiah's HANDWRITING ON THE WALL, which is a similar style commentary on the Old Testament book of Daniel, and which would actually be helpful to read first, since some of Revelation is based on Daniel. For those wanting a more academic approach to Revelation, I recommend Ryrie's more academic REVELATION as accessible to the beginner, and still more detailed would be the commentaries of Walvoord, Robert Thomas, or even Newell. All of these, like Jeremiah, hold to the conservative, evangelical "pre-trib, pre-mil" endtimes view that the rapture will take place before ("pre") a 7-year tribulation before a literal millial (i.e., 1000 years) reign of Messiah on Earth.

Editorial Review:

No one can deny that the world is in trouble. Tragedy stalks our streets. Violence and bloodshed fill the news. How do we explain so much chaos? Is there any hope for peace in our time? Dr. David Jeremiah's dramatic narrative on the Book of Revelation answers these and many more challenging questions, by unraveling the imagery and explaining the significance of the events described in the last book of the Bible. Within its pages are the hope and encouragement we need to lift us from the gloom of present events to the promise of a brilliant future.

Not great for a quick read 2 out of 5 stars.
7 of 15 people found this review helpful.

The book is too long, bleak and unappealing. The constant reminder of this so called "god" character was repeated too much and got old. It wasn't a good read. I suggest The Lord of the Rings.

Trippiest Read in a Long Time 5 out of 5 stars.

Reading this book is basically the same thing as taking a LOT of shrooms. Don't try doing both at the same time.

Warning: Reading this book may cause life-long irrationality.

Not For the Fainthearted Christian...What's More Important? "Worshiping" Jesus or Living the Life Jesus Said to Live? 5 out of 5 stars.
10 of 12 people found this review helpful.

Orthodox believers, the strictly Orthodox, don't need to go here. Or maybe you should--if you are willing to think--to do what the Bible said do, "Worship the Lord Thy God with all thy heart, MIND, and strength.

For those who want to think and aren't afraid to delve into new areas of thought in an effort to make the faith come alive, truly alive, this is a good book, a very good book. But for those who want to read more of what they already believe, for those who want to stay in the cocoon of their faith, never asking or considering the tough questions, this is not the book for you. For Job, yes; for you, no.

The premise of this book is simply this: Is the church--Christians of today--"worshiping" Jesus to the point that they ignore or forget His message, what He said do, the lives He said to lead?

Most likely Christians of today really don't want to hear what Jesus said, they would prefer to worship him as Christ and Lord without letting him really be Christ and Lord. For many Christians--I hope not most--the message of Jesus would be as scandalous today as it was when he first spoke it. It caused him to be put to death before and it would cause many church people, good, well meaning church people, to want to put him to death again today. The church might well lead the charge for his second death as the church led the charge for his first death...

It is a lot easier and a lot more comfortable to worship Jesus on a pedestal as "Christ and Lord" than it is to hear his message and lead the lives He said live.

It brings to mind words from an old country gospel song, "Sorry, I never knew you..." Most Christians "know" who Jesus is, but they don't want to really know him. It would be too difficult on their lives of comfort and ease..." It would be scandalous...

Perhaps we should remember what Jesus said about being "lukewarm...."

Editorial Review:

New York Times bestselling author and renowned Harvard preacher Peter J. Gomes takes on the hot-button issues in the world today by returning to Jesus's message.

Important reference work 5 out of 5 stars.
9 of 9 people found this review helpful.

How People Grow is an easily accessible, Biblically-centered, psychologically-deep, and thorough overview of the growth process. I have read through this book twice and refer to it sporadically to refresh my memory on various parts of the growth process and, in my work with college students, urge them to read the book. I have found that living out and sharing its insights has helped me in every area of life, from becoming a more effective evangelist to developing stronger work habits. My main challenge in reading it is owning up to how misguided my understanding of the growth process has been, how I have subsequently misled others, repenting of these mistakes, and seeking to think and live differently in the future. It is a book that speaks to deep issues in a grace-filled but challenging way.

Editorial Review:

This audio edition shows how the Bible relates to growth; how growth is not about actualization, but about sanctification; what has to happen for growth to occur; and what the Bible teaches about the responsibilities of the church and the responsibilities of the individual.  This audio edition gives gatekeepers (pastors, recovery leaders, lay leaders, paraprofessionals) tools to help people resolve issues of relationships, maturity, emotional problems, and overall spiritual growth.  Read by Dr. Henry Cloud and Dr. John Townsend.
