This is my favorite bible for giving away to people who are not bible readers. the study notes, bible land map, and other helps really help them apply scriptures to there lives.

I've read through many different study bibles in my work as a youth minister. I haven't found any to be easier to understand or have more useful information than the Life Application Study Bibles. The NIV version works well as it tracks with the Episcopal denomination, to which I belong. In general the commentary does a great job giving very useful information right on the page regarding the historical activities going on during the time of the verse being referenced.

If you're looking for a Bible for the Kindle for regular structured reading, this one is a winner.

The translation is very readable. It is a devotional translation, not a "Study Bible" or scholarly translation.

For a Kindle book, the format is excellent. It is laid out with daily readings by date. Each day has an Old Testament and New Testament selection, followed by a Psalm and a Proverb or two.

The selections provide a sequential Genesis through Revelation trip through the Bible in one year plus the books of Psalms & Proverbs in digestible hunks. (One of my problems with most "Bible in a Year" schemes is that they insist on reading Proverbs in huge unrelieved daily hunks, guaranteed to give you mental and spiritual indigestion).

The readings are footnoted in Kindle hyperlinks for alternate readings and explanations of where the reader friendly translation substitutes a modern equivalent for such things as ancient Hebrew dates and the like.

I only wish that where the New Testament quotes the Old Testament the hyperlink gave not only the citation in the footnote (which it does), but also hyperlinked the actual OT passage cited. (The New International Version Kindle edition does both, which is very handy.)

I only wish there were a Catholic edition of this One Year Bible, with the pseudographical/apochryphal books of the Catholic canon included. Alas, so far the only Catholic Bible of any type available for the Kindle is the dated (and terribly formated) Rheims/Douay.

I ordered a leather bound bible, what I received was a two tone, light blue and brown, imitation leather bible. This is not the way it was advertised. I did call they offered for me to send it back, but said when I receive the replacement one, they could not guarantee that it wouldn't be the same as I already received. So then I said well it don't make sense to send it back, just to receive the same thing yet again, so how about some credit. He gave me $5.00 back from my purchase price, so was resolved. So if ordering this bible, be careful and ask all questions beforehand, so you aren't disappointed. I am good with the outcome.

Finding a lost treasure 5 out of 5 stars.

I was given this book as a Christmas gift back in 1987. Somewhere down the line I lost it while traveling. I have been trying for years to obtain another copy and finally, because of Amazon, I have. This book is what really got me diligently studying the bible and sparked my growth in my walk with Christ. I like the structure of the book and the small commentaries before each day's lesson. The publisher should really consider publishing this book again.

Since I was given this book I have brought several one year bibles for people, they are great gifts. The value of such a gift is beyond measure.

I can't believe that this is the only review that doesn't give five stars! (I'm not counting the violently anti-Christian idiot who had problems with the actual Bible, not the translation.) This is absolutely the most stupid-sounding translation of the Bible that I have ever read; they went way too far in their attempts to make it readable. It's full of unnecessary exclamation points, for one thing. (Example: "Don't be afraid!" he said. "I bring you good news of great joy for everyone! The Savior-yes, the Messiah, the Lord-has been born tonight in Bethlehem the city of David! And this is how you will recognize him: You will find a baby lying in a manger, wrapped snugly in strips of cloth!-Luke 2:10-12)
See what I mean? That passage also demonstrates how thorougly this translation strips the Bible of its literary beauty. (If you watch "A Charlie Brown Christmas," you can hear how this passage was treated in the King James Version; it's absolutely beautiful! Of course, if you have a King James Bible, you could just read that.) If you want a contemporary-language bible, get The Message. It's not quite as gorgeous as the KJV, but it is way more readable, and it conveys more emotion than any other translation I know.
Oh, and if the violently anti-Christian idiot that I mentioned is reading this, I want to say something to them: If the best thing that you can think of doing is to go online and tell a bunch of Christians, Jews, and Muslims that they're all psycho murderers, maybe you need a therapist.
