Story Behind the Book

After years of writing and teaching on the theme “God owns everything,” in 1990 Randy Alcorn was sued by an abortion clinic (for peaceful, nonviolent intervention for the unborn). Suddenly he had to resign as a pastor and was restricted to making minimum wage. Legally unable to own anything, Randy gave all his book royalties to missions work and need-meeting ministries. He and his family have experienced the reality of The Treasure Principle—that God really does own everything, takes care of us, and graciously puts assets into our hands that we might have the joy and privilege of investing in what will last for eternity.

WHAT AN AMAZING BOOK 5 out of 5 stars.
1 of 1 people found this review helpful.

To label this book as inspiring and fantastic would be an understatement. It is simply phenomenal and challenges the reader to develop a different mentality regarding prosperity. I have never in my wildest dreams imagined that the God of the universe, in whose image we are created, would rather His children live in mediocrity and suffer throughout life. It always seemed contrary to me. Although we do encounter tribulation, it is never meant to be a life long struggle.

He discuses several points but not limited to the following: Money is good for the good that it can do; and we are to be good stewards of the money that God allows us to receive and not simply squander it all away, although Anderson maintains that God would love to have us enjoy the wealth. He also maintains that we must give in order to partake in increase.

This book resonated with the very depths of my soul, as if God Himself was speaking through each page. What strengthens his book further is the fact that he includes copious amounts of scriptural references for validation. If you are looking for a refreshing idea regarding prosperity, then this book is for you. I only wish I could have given more stars.

Editorial Review:

This newly revised and expanded edition decries the myth that Christians must be poor and gives readers the keys to financial prosperity. Dr. Anderson combines biblical principles with expert financial advice, equipping readers with the tools they need to attain the riches they deserve. An invaluable resource for current or would-be investors or entrepreneurs, this book not only inspires readers to become educated about finances but also spurs them on to action and compels them to move forward confidently to achieve their financial dreams.
New content includes callouts and new chapters on how to invest safely in today's market and on understanding that Jesus wasn't poor.

IMHO, This book is second only to the Bible!! 5 out of 5 stars.
4 of 4 people found this review helpful.

Those are big words but let me explain why I truly mean them. Before I'd even gotten past the first hundred pages this book helped me change the way I manage my finances. How? By changing and enlightening my perspective. We get so caught up in the here and now that we sometimes forget what life is really about and what truly matters.

To answer the previous post, this book has NOTHING WHATSOVER to do with "buying your way into heaven". That is a gift bought by the precious blood of Jesus Christ and we can do nothing to earn it. That's why it's a gift from God. However, how we live as a reponse to that is well within our control and how we manage our money says a lot about our view of God and our relationship with Him. That's what this book helps put into perspective first and foremost. Once you have that perspective you will start to change how you spend money without going through major internal efforts. Salvation is one thing and we can only get to Heaven by Jesus Christ and not our own efforts. How we live is another thing and once we've settled the first and are secure in the fact we cannot lose it then our living is to be in gratitude for that precious gift and not an attempt to earn it because we never could. That would diminish the fact that it is a gift of God.

The author's heart-felt and sincere efforts to please the Lord in every aspect of his living have produced the fruit of this very helpful and edifying book. In turn, this book can help the rest of us to do likewise. This book had such a profound impact on me that there was no other book that could compare to it for impact other than the Bible, which of course, is second to none.

Editorial Review:

What does the Bible really say about money? This completely revised and updated version of the classic best-seller provides a Christian perspective about money and material possessions based on the author's painstaking study of the Bible. Randy Alcorn uses the Scriptures to approach this often touchy subject head-on. Thought-provoking arguments challenge readers to rethink their attitudes and use their God-given resources in ways that will have an eternal impact. Alcorn deals straightforwardly with issues of materialism, stewardship, prosperity theology, debt, and more. An excellent choice for group study as well as individual financial guidance. Includes a study guide and appendix with additional resources.

Challenging, thought provoking... and an enjoyable read! 5 out of 5 stars.
13 of 13 people found this review helpful.

MANY books today cover the topic of responsible media consumption. But few do it with the insight and depth of Communicating for Life. Schultze takes the reader beyond consumption of media to look at what it truly means to live as a disciple of Jesus Christ in our technology rich world. Not only was I prodded to transform the ways I use media in my life, but I was encouraged to become a whole member of the human community. Schultze weaves these two concepts of community and media into a beautiful tapestry that can hint to us what true peace, true justice, and true community ought to look like. This is a must read for all who seek to live as authentic followers of Jesus.

Editorial Review:

Offers a holistic Christian view of communication, showing the vast array of implications for using this gift to responsibly work toward peace and justice.

This is a religious based book 3 out of 5 stars.
39 of 57 people found this review helpful.

I think it is important to point out a fact that Amazon leaves off in their description of the book. The author, Larry Burkett, is the founder and president of Christian Financial Concepts, Inc., a ministry dedicated to teaching God's principles for financial management.

This is obviously a big selling point of the book to a great many people.

However, it is something that people just browsing for a good financial book and workbook for their teens might not realize. For some of those people, it would not be what they are looking for.

I think Amazon is doing a great disservice to not make this very clear.

Sending teens out into the world with a clear understanding of finances and financial responsibility is very important.

If a biblical bent to finances suits your beliefs and lifestyles, take a look at this book.

If this aspect does not appeal to you, you would be better off looking elsewhere.

Editorial Review:

If you don't take control of your money, someone else will. Why learn to manage your money? You don't have that much anyway, right? Wrong! The average American teenager spends $3,000 per year. And at the end of your teenage years, will you know what happened to that $21,000? While $3,000 per year is most likely a lot less money than your parents spend, you should still be able to: Pay fair prices for quality items. Avoid being ripped off by misleading ads and salespeople. Stay out of debt. Save up for a car, college, or your own business. Give money that will make a difference in the world. Have money to do fun things with your friends.Larry Burkett and Todd Temple will show you how to take back the control of your money. You'll learn skills that will help you right now and prepare you for a successful financial future.

Excellent Resource 5 out of 5 stars.
4 of 4 people found this review helpful.

I am a pastor of a congregation and we are using this as a congregational-wide discussion on the theology of stewardship. What I treasure about this book is that it starts with a good theological background before getting into nuts and bolts sorts of issues. Because Powell argues that all of life is about stewardship, this book is an excellent read for those who are tired of seeing people who only associate stewardship with church fundraising.

Editorial Review:

We all know that everything we have is a gift from God. But sometimes it's hard to know just how to give back to God. How much is enough? What does the Bible really say? What should giving look like in our everyday lives? Filled with good news for followers of Jesus, Mark Allan Powell's Giving to God shows Christians the way to a better life and a better relationship with their money — and with God.

Powell presents stewardship as an act of worship, an expression of faith, and a discipline for spiritual growth. Faithful use of our time, talents, and money starts with a deep, satisfying relationship with the God to whom we belong. We can then learn, says Powell, to give gladly and generously out of our heartfelt connection with God. Informative, concise, and eminently practical (including discussion questions), Giving to God gives us resources for best using the treasures, material and otherwise, that God has given us.

Good Basic Principles 4 out of 5 stars.

Wow...so simple!! I am only about halfway through this book and find the principles easy to apply to your life. The authors suggest making adjustments in dealing with your finances God's way and watching how God will bless with good stewardship. Excellent examples are given...I'm so impressed with this little book that I plan to give it to a number of my friends and family members for Christmas.

This is a very good and informative must read. If you have or are currently struggling with finances. Read this book then apply "The Storehouse Principle". In 3 short weeks I can already see a difference in how I relate to and react to finances.

Want to live in financial 'overflow' ? Read this 5 out of 5 stars.

I brought this book on account of the great reviews, but deep down I was cynical that it would work..well - I'm a believer!. This book is very very easy to read, and the author testifies from being broke to coming into abundance. Yes I know you've heard that many times before, but this 'storehouse principal' works.

After reading this book I went and opened up a 'Storehouse' account. I even named it that (much to the amusement of the bank teller)and deposited $1.40 into it (to much greater amusment from the teller!!). In the FIRST MONTH I had $7500 come in from unexpected sources.

This is based on scriptual foundations. They are sooo simple and clear.

Buy this book!! Incidently I gave mine to a couple who were struggling with finance..now he's got work coming from everywhere and a big smile on his face.
