You'll want to read it fast or you'll feel depressed!!! 2 out of 5 stars.
0 of 0 people found this review helpful.

Let me begin by saying that I loved the Mark of the Lion series and enjoyed Redeeming Love. But as I was reading this book and witnessing a realistic picture of a family falling apart I felt as though a black cloud was hovering overhead. I HAD to finish this book in one day or else I would have been scowling at my husband (of no fault of his own, merely the actions of a fictional man!!!) while feeling a darkness in my heart. For, as always, Rivers writes with such emotion that you can literally feel the pain of the character. If you want a feel good story THIS IS NOT IT!!!

I LOVE historical fiction so I thought I might enjoy this contemporary laced with a historical story. Interestingly enough, I found that the historical story bored me. It was sad but, I suppose it's because it was in a diary format, I didn't really get too into the characters... therefore I didn't get into the story. I was half tempted to skip it entirely. Instead I just scanned the journal entries to get back to the main story athand.

Boy, and that story... what a depressing story. First this Jerk of a husband makes life-changing decisions without consulting with his wife and then seems stumped by her bitterness!! He doesn't even make an effort to try and console his wife. They were both exceedingly selfish characters, neither caring a lick for the other's feelings. She continues wallowing in bitterness and resentment instead of trying to make the best of things.

Before long things spiral out of control!!! And her mom!! I don't want to spoil the story but the loss Sierra faced--all alone!!-- broke my heart.

The adultery aspect... wow. I don't want to give away the ending so I will just say this. I wouldn't blame her if she never took him back. I certainly would not be able to. And if she did she is a more gracious person than ANY of the ladies I know.

Editorial Review:

When Sierra discovers her young ancestor's handcrafted quilt and reads her journal, she finds their lives are very similar. By following her ancestor's example, she learns to surrender to God's sovereignty and unconditional love.

If you like to read about the Amish, this is a good novel to learn something about the Amish way of life. The book is a fast read. You'll want to read Book #2 and #3 to find out what happens next. Book #1 leave you hanging.

Editorial Review:

When Hannah dares to love across the boundaries of tradition, will she lose everything?

Despite being raised in a traditional Old Order Amish family, seventeen-year-old Hannah Lapp desires to break with custom, forgo baptism into the faith, and marry outside the cloistered community. She’s been in love with Mennonite Paul Waddell for three years, and before returning to college for his senior year, Paul asks Hannah to be his wife. Hannah accepts, aware that her marriage will change her relationship with her family forever.

On the evening of their engagement, tragedy strikes and in one unwelcome encounter, all that Hannah has known and believed is destroyed. As she finds herself entangled in questions that the Old Ways of her people cannot answer, Hannah faces the possibility of losing her place in her family, in her community–and in the heart of the man she loves.

A "Must-Have" Resource! 5 out of 5 stars.
6 of 7 people found this review helpful.

If you are trying to lead your church to effectiveness and impact, Church Unique: How Missional Leaders Cast Vision, Capture Culture, and Create Movement (J-B Leadership Network Series) by Will Mancini is a "must-have" resource! Like very few books of its kind, this one is not only packed with ideas, it is presented in a clear and purposeful manner with implementation in mind.

Based on Mancini's work with Auxano, Church Unique provides a carefully executed, step-by-step walk through the concepts and practices that build a "vision frame." Discovering and articulating a compelling vision is at the heart, but developing the missional mandate (mission), motives (values), map (strategy) and marks (measures) are what provide the frame. Each step in the process is presented in a way that begs to be implemented.

If you long for clarity and a laser focus, this is a book you will devour, mark up, and wear out. I'm frequently asked what's the best thing I'm reading. Church Unique is a book I'll be talking about for a long time.

Editorial Review:

Written by church consultant Will Manciniѡn expert on a new kind of visioning process to help churches develop a stunningly unique model of ministry that leads to redemptive movement. He guides churches away from an internal focus to emphasize participation in their community and surrounding culture. In this important book, Mancini offers an approach for rethinking what it means to lead with clarity as a visionary. Mancini explains that each church has a culture that reflects its particular values, thoughts, attitudes, and actions and shows how church leaders can unlock their church's individual DNA and unleash their congregation's one-of-a-kind potential.

Not a good story for a South American Indian 1 out of 5 stars.
3 of 3 people found this review helpful.

This is not a good book. This Bruchko character ruined the Motilones Indians lives in Colombia to build up his own ego under the guise of helping spread Christianity. Maybe he thought he was doing a good thing, but really all he did was try and assimilate a people in a culture they wanted nothing to do with. He should have left them alone. My Grandmother, a Motilon Indian, and I do not recommend this book except to show how European explorers, and missionaries have helped to ruin countless cultures by trying to "help" them to not be "savages".

Bruchko 5 out of 5 stars.

This is an interesting missionary biography. Everyone I know that has read it (people of all ages), has enjoyed it.

Editorial Review:

What happens when a nineteen-year-old boy and heads into the jungles to evangelize a murderous tribe of South American Indians? For Bruce Olson it meant capture and torture, but what he discovered revolutionized the world of missions.

Editorial Review:

When Anna decides it's time to leave her abusive boyfriend, she doesn't know where to turn. Rob has completely won over her parents, and the entire community, with his good looks and smooth charm. Only Anna has seen his dark side.

Desperate, she runs to the only place she's ever felt completely safe—the Amish Brenneman Bed and Breakfast, where Anna met life-long friend Katie Brenneman. The family welcomes her in, and with few questions asked allows her to stay, dressed in Plain clothing, and help around the inn.

Katie's older brother Henry is the only one who doesn't take too kindly to the intrusion. He tries to ignore Anna, knowing no good would ever come from caring for an Englisher like her. But as he gets to know Anna, he discovers her good heart and is surprised with her readiness to accept their lifestyle.

The more time Anna spends with the Amish, the more she feels she's found a true home. But how can she deny the life she left behind? And will her chance for happiness be stolen away by the man from her past?

A GUIDE TO LIFE-TO HAPPINESS-TO GOD 5 out of 5 stars.

MOTHER TERESA'S WAY OF LIFE IS A DIRECT PATH TO INNER PEACE ,JOY &HAPPINESS. THIS BOOK IS INSPIRATIONAL!! SHE TRULY IS "A SAINT FOR OUR TIMES" B.C.

Pearls of Wisdom from one who Spoke with the Authority of Service 5 out of 5 stars.
0 of 0 people found this review helpful.

This book is a treasury of wisdom from one who lived a radical life of poverty and service so that she could be more effective at bringing Jesus to "the poorest of the poor in their holes on the streets."

Easily read, and with pictures from her life, this book is well organized. While "Mother Teresa: Come Be my Light" would be a much more complete and in-depth book on this (probable) saint, that one is also a much heavier read.

This book, "In My Own Words," is much more easily digested and serves as both a good introduction to this saintly life, and as a source of pithy pearls of wisdom in readily grasped and inspirational morsels.

This book belongs on the shelf of all Christians to serve as inspiration and guide in our treatment of others, and indeed, of any who desire, no matter their religious affiliation (or lack thereof), to serve their fellow human beings.

Editorial Review:

The collection of quotes, stories, and prayers in this book are all her own words and experiences. They were compiled from various sources. Her undying faith and concern of the human spirit is reflected in these passages. In her years of work, Mother Teresa has brought God to millions in places of darkness. Let her share her hope, faith, and love with you.

It was pretty good... 4 out of 5 stars.
0 of 0 people found this review helpful.

After reading the 1st book in this new series, Cassidy, I was really disappointed. So, I didn't expect much from Sabrina. But it was a pleasant surprise. It was a really good story. I got to know and love the characters and right of the bat I was able to bond with them and care about them. It was a really good read and I felt like I certainly learned a lot from it and got a lot out of it. The only thing is I'm not terribly fond of the multiple unrelated conversations style of writing, but other than that, it was excellent.

Editorial Review:

From bestselling author Lori Wick comes the moving second book in the Big Sky Dreams series. Sabrina Matthews, a young prostitute in the rough frontier city of Denver, is befriended by a police officer and his wife. Because of their kindness, she listens to what they have to say about Jesus and believes in Him.

Sabrina stays with Danny and Callie until she’s ready to make a fresh start in a new town. She boards the train for the long trip to Token Creek in Montana Territory, where she meets Jeanette Fulbright and is befriended by the church family and many of the townsfolk there.

All is well until she finds herself falling for Pastor Rylan Jarvik, who has begun to care for her as well. Will she be able to tell him about her past? How will Rylan respond? A moving novel about past mistakes and forgiveness—both from God and people.

Editorial Review:

There have been thousands of books written about prayer and millions of sermons preached about it, yet people continue to wonder: Why doesn't God answer me when I cry out to him?

Anthony DeStefano, author of the bestselling A Travel Guide to Heaven, knew there had to be an answer, so he set out to find prayers that God says yes to all the time. The result is an extraordinary new book that has the ability to dramatically change the lives of readers of all faiths.

Each short, powerful prayer in Ten Prayers God Always Says Yes To addresses a particular problem people commonly face in life—from accepting the existence of God to trying to make ends meet; from getting through terrible suffering to coping with everyday stress; from overcoming fear to finding your God-given destiny. Presented with certainty and vigor, these prayers will help readers find solutions to life's most difficult situations and provide meaningful and inspiring answers to the vexing questions we have about the purpose of our time on earth.

In a world awash with superficial self-help books and deceptive gimmicks, Ten Prayers God Always Says Yes To is the real thing. Using hundreds of scriptural references to support his claims, DeStefano writes in a simple, straightforward, and uplifting manner that makes the most profound theological matters understandable to all. In the words of the author, "This is a spiritual treasure chest that is available to everyone. This book is about prayers that work—really, truly work."

Editorial Review:

Since its publication a decade ago, Let the Nations Be Glad! has provided thousands of seminary students, missionaries, and pastors with a sound theological foundation for missions. Piper now offers a revised and expanded edition of this theological and biblical defense of God's supremacy in all things.

Drawing on texts from the Old and New Testaments, Piper demonstrates that worship is the ultimate goal of the church and that proper worship drives missionary outreach. He describes prayer as the fuel of missions work because of its focus on a relationship with God rather than the needs of the world. He goes on to illustrate that while suffering is the price of missions, God is worthy of any sacrifice. He examines whether Jesus is the only way to salvation and discusses the extent of the missionary enterprise, seeking to define the scope of the task and the means to reaching "all nations."

This revised and expanded edition contains updated references to contemporary literature and debates and new illustrations and quotations. This edition also boasts a new preface and a final section devoted to the practical outworking of compassion and worship. Included in this new section is a chapter encouraging passion for God's supremacy and compassion for man's soul, based on Jonathan Edwards's musings on the unity of motives for world missions. Concluding this section is a chapter containing Piper's reflections on New Testament worship as an inner reality more than an external form.

Let the Nations Be Glad! is essential reading for all those involved in or preparing for missions work and provides inspiring theological reflection for college and seminary students. This book also offers enlightenment for pastors, youth workers, those involved in campus ministries, and all who want to connect their labors to God's global purposes.

Bjorklund series continued 4 out of 5 stars.
0 of 0 people found this review helpful.

The Red River story of Ingeborg Bjorklund continues with the Daughters of Blessing series. Andrew, Ingborg's second son, is a main character in this novel. After years of protecting and being best friends with Ellie since a child, their impending wedding is postponed and may never happen. This series fits right in with the other Red River books and I enjoyed reading the continuing saga of Ingborg and her family.

Editorial Review:

Return to Blessing, North Dakota, with the story of Andrew Bjorklund and Ellie Wold. After graduating in May of 1900, the two make plans to marry once the harvest is over and their new house is finished. They spend the summer working hard, and the Lord seems to shine on and in them in a special way. Everyone rejoices in their happiness. Everyone except for Toby Valders, who is determined to get even for all the drubbings he has taken from Andrew through the years. Andrew, however, has promised Ellie there will be no more fistfights. But when their new barn burns—and many of their possessions and dreams with it—Andrew throws his vows of nonviolence aside, reaping bitter consequences. Why is the life he has so looked forward to now unraveling so quickly? (Daughters of Blessing Book 1)
