Editorial Review:

Choosing to Live, Love, and Laugh Again
When He Leaves
Encouragement that will be like fresh water to a thirsty soul ...
Barbara Johnson, author

Kari West & Noelle Quinn

He promised, as you did, "till death do us part."
You did not want the marriage to end; now you are hurting, angry.
You wonder, "Will I ever love or laugh again?"

You are not alone. Kari West and Noelle Quinn have both gone through unwanted divorces. They emerged from the pain, and with God, created new lives for themselves and their families.

When He Leaves is warm and transparent, offering a woman-to-woman feel for kindred souls abandoned within a Christian marriage. Raw emotion blends with weathered perspective to fuel hope. The authors challenge you, in the journey through divorce, to risk turning every scary corner. You, too, can find the courage to take steps back into life, love, and laughter.

Kari West is a writer and speaker living on a sun-splashed hilltop in California. She is remarried and the mother of a grown daughter. Kari enjoys her "English" country garden and likes to scuba dive.

Noelle Quinn is an editor and book developer living among ponderosa pines in Oregon. The mother of three teenage daughters, Noelle likes to hike, camp, and play on the beach.

Both authors have chosen to write under pen names.

This text provides a good example of how one can be a mentor no matter what stage of life you are at or your giftedness. Encourages you to get involved in another's life and be a godly influence. Great for women's study groups/discussion.

Inspires you both to seek and offer spiritual mothering 5 out of 5 stars.

The command in Titus 2 for older women to teach younger women has long been on my heart and I have desired to reach out beyond my own daughters, but have not often had the opportunity to develop such a relationship with others. I wish older women had reached out to me when I was younger and did not realize how much I needed their help and encouragement. This book is great for women of all ages. It encourages the younger to seek the wisdom of the older, and the older to share what God has taught them. We are starting group studies of this book in our church.

Editorial Review:

The Apostle Paul in his letter to Titus assigns older women the task of ministering to the younger women in the Christian community. this book provides an understanding of this "mothering mandate" for contemporary times.

Excellent Healing Advice 4 out of 5 stars.
31 of 33 people found this review helpful.

Dr. Stoop combines teachings from the Bible with psychology to demonstrate how principles of good mental health can enable a person to create a better life. This book gets to the practical application of these principles. It literally tells you what to do to put them into practice. Readers are taught how to change self-defeating thoughts into thoughts leading to positive behaviors.
Even people who are already familiar with the value of positive self-talk can reap the benefits of this book by being reminded of the power of this potential which is available to everyone.
He gives examples of how it has worked successfully in the lives of various people from differenct backgrounds.
Unlike a lot of other books in this genre, he devotes a chapter to the abuse of positive self-talk by putting it into a broader context than most authors. Stoop addresses the issue of the sovereignty of God in the matter of faith and positive confession. He goes on to point out that self-talk isn't something we create, it already is going on, the issue is learning how to use this reality to one's advantage.

Editorial Review:

"Attitude is everything." It's what makes the difference between those who succeed and those who fail. And it's easy to see-in other people. It's not as easy to recognize when our own attitude needs adjustment, or to know how to change it. In You Are What You Think, David Stoop shows readers how to use self-talk to make positive changes in their attitudes and beliefs. Self-talk can be private speech, thoughts, or external speech, all of which shape emotions and behavior for good or bad. This popular book, previously published as Self-Talk, will help readers overcome stress, guilt, depression, anxiety, and anger; release the power of faith; choose healthy, positive thoughts; and more.

Finishing Strong . . . must read for any man 5 out of 5 stars.
1 of 1 people found this review helpful.

This book has changed the way I look at and the way I carry myself day in and day out. The bible is still the authority on how a man should live, but Finishing Strong delivers the message in terms relative to today's christian man. It also can be understood by the non-christian also. I think that is the best feature behind this book is that whether or not you believe that God has outlined the way you should live, this book breaks it down to you in terms anyone can relate to and follow

Editorial Review:

Bestselling author Steve Farrar has good news for the average man: it doesn't matter if you've had a great start in the Christian life, or a rough one. It doesn't matter if you've stumbled time and again, or even fallen flat on your face. What matters most in this all-important race of life is how you finish. According to Farrar, the man who hangs in there for the long haul with his wife, his kids, and his Lord is an exception these days. Finishing Strong, now in trade paperback, offers lively use of Scripture, contemporary illustrations, and study questions to equip every reader to be that exception. For the man who wants to climb the character ladder more than the corporate one, this is an essential tool.

Breaking Fear...Living Strong 5 out of 5 stars.
7 of 8 people found this review helpful.

Rising With The Son: A Diary Of A Growing Soul

At the core John addresses many issues we all share that keep us from living a full and complete life in Christ. We do fear! Rejection, Judgment, Death, Loss and Failure...all just part of what could hold us back. Yet, how many of us think about fearing the same from our God. This book doesn't intimidate but does tell us like it is. We CAN fall forward and truly live in the power and grace of our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ. This book is LIFE GIVING.

Great Book! 5 out of 5 stars.
7 of 7 people found this review helpful.

Absolutely true what the other reviewers are saying! This is a life-giving and changing book that is difficult to put down. I was a bit surprised on what the one negative review stated. No where does John Bevere suggest one stays in authority (hid in Christ) by striving or being unkind. And actually he does give many Biblical precidents where one can lose authority by giving into intimidation. Bevere is speaking about losing authority and the ability to excercise gifts for the benefit of the body of Christ--not about losing one's salvation and certainly not about relying on ourselves for power or answers. Depression, broken families, split churches, lack of joy--most of us have seen it, experienced it. This book shows the roots of it. And the basic root, Bevere explains, is NOT doing what we are told to do--which is lay down our self life. This book isn't an easy read by any means. Thank God. I've recently read most of Bevere's books. Balance. Root causes and the truth in all of them. I'm also recommending several other books and authors that I feel all work together. Different messages--but all in unity, that have helped me immensely see clearer the word of God. The True Nature of God by Andrew Wommack. Why I Left the Prophetic Movement by Andrew Strom. I have found all books by Wommack, Bevere, Strom and also Ray Comfort to be balanced and working the same good things I believe God wants us to know to come into unity, power and godly authority.

Editorial Review:

John Bevere has taken the Wod of God and his own personal battles and given us another superb book.--Oral Roberts.

Excellent Read! Better Than "Margin". 5 out of 5 stars.
43 of 43 people found this review helpful.

In my humble opinion, "Overload Syndrome" is better than Swenson's first book, "Margin", mainly because the author gets to the prescription sooner and spends less time defining the problem.

For example, in "Margin", you are over 1/3 into the book before Swenson gives a clear and comprehensive definition of the term "margin". In "Overload Syndrome", Swenson spends the first 50 pages describing overload syndrome and the last 150 giving prescriptions for the problems. Therefore, more text in "Overload Syndrome" is spent giving solutions. Granted, in our time and age we want a quick fix to our problems without delving deeply into the problem. However, Swenson's prescriptions are not the quick fixes we may have grown accustomed to and are profound in their simplicity.

For example, some of Swenson's excellent prescriptions include how to:

1. Make solitude a priority for resting and thinking.
2. Deal correctly with possesions so they do not
possess you.
3. Combat media overload.
4. Deal with information overload.
5. Make wise choices.
6. Lower expectations.
7. Slow down and enjoy life.

Practically everyone who reads the book struggles with one or more of the above areas and will greatly benefit from reading "Overload Syndrome"!

Editorial Review:

DO YOU DREAD GOING TO WORK? ARE YOUR RELATIONSHIPS STRAINED FROM STRESS? DO YOU WISH YOU COULD CHECK INTO A HOSPITAL JUST TO GET SOME SLEEP?

Busyness. Stress. Overload. Anyone living in today's society knows the struggle of trying to handle the load of life at the turn of the millennium. You don't have enough time to do the things you have to-let alone those things you'd like to do. You feel tired, worn out, and burned out.

You're not alone. These symptoms are not a figment of your imagination. They're signs that you're suffering from a virulent new disease that affects millions of people-The Overload Syndrome.

Where does overload come from? What does it look like? What will it lead to? Most importantly, what can you do about it? The Overload Syndrome examines these questions and offers prescriptions to counteract its effects and restore time to rest and space to heal.

Concise Collection of Familiar Ideas 3 out of 5 stars.
6 of 9 people found this review helpful.

There's nothing really new or insightful in this book for anyone who has had some training in Christian relational and marital dynamics. Wright here offers a good definition of Christian marriage, pointers on communication, and a lengthy explanation of personality types. He concludes his work by providing some advice on anger and how to resolve conflict. This book isn't bad, but I've read far better and much more stimulating titles.

I have enjoyed reading 5 out of 5 stars.

Love for a Lifetime is a great gift 4 out of 5 stars.

We think this book has a lot of good advice and thoughts for engaged or newly married couples - or really anyone. We give it as a gift at bridal showers and weddings often. Commitment, Communication and Christ are 3 of the things Dobson stresses as essential to a loving, lifelong marriage.

Great book!! 5 out of 5 stars.

I cannot recommend this book highly enough. Dr. Dobson is insightful and shares his wisdom with a gentle sense of humor that makes the book wonderful to read and reread!! Loved it!!! It was a great resouce for our marriage!

Love for a Lifetime: Building a Marriage That Will Go the Distance 1 out of 5 stars.
2 of 18 people found this review helpful.

I found this book to not only be shallow and poorly written, but also insidiously demeaning to women. Rather than focusing on the individual strengths and weaknesses men and women bring to relationships, the author focused on the weakness and instability of women. In addition, his examples and analogies were often misplaced and poorly devised... certainly not illustrative of his points or of a healthy marriage. I found the content much too general with overuse of stereotypes. My fiancee and I have read Chapman's Five Love Languages and got a great deal more out of that exercise.

Editorial Review:

This perfect gift for any couple who wants to strengthen their marriage relationship. With Bible based insights taught by today's foremost family advocate, this beautiful gift edition of the modern classic.

Married to a new man 4 out of 5 stars.
22 of 22 people found this review helpful.

This was the greatest wedding gift that I was given. I am really learning my husbands language. It gives specific advice on how to build your husband up in his role as leader. It's principles are biblically sound and backed with scripture. An excellent source for wives on building your husband into the leader you always knew he was. This book is an awesome tool to get your marriage back on the right track with your husband feeling confident as the head of the wife/household.

Fairly good discussion guide for Christian married couples. 3 out of 5 stars.
17 of 25 people found this review helpful.

This is the Group Leader's Guide which contains the participant study guide plus discussion leader notes. This series of lessons is aimed at Christian married couples. The back cover starts... Why marriage is God's workshop for self-esteem. Part of God's plan for marriage is for you to help your mate become all that He intended. While that may sound like a big job, all it takes is letting your mate know that you accept them and are committed to meeting their needs. ... A large part of this book is examining Biblical teachings in light of the marriage relationship and the marriage partners' personal faith. The copyright page says "FamilyLife is a part of Campus Crusade for Christ International, an evangelical Christian organization founded in 1951 by Bill Bright. FamilyLife was started in 1976 to help fulfill the Great Commission by strengthening marriages and families and then equipping them to go to the world with the gospel of Jesus Christ." If your personal beliefs do not coincide with the evangelical approach, you may find some material to be wrong or offensive. Given this context, this course seems to be fairly good.

Editorial Review:

Self-esteem is either the crippler or the completer of the marriage relationship, says Dennis Rainey. From their personal and seminar experiences with thousands of couples, Dennis and Barbara Rainey have found that one of the most vital, yet most often missing, ingredients in a marriage today is the diligent effort on the part of each spouse to build the other's self-esteem.
