A compilation of bits and pieces of Thomas Merton's deeply spiritual and sometimes probing social commentaries published previously under other titles, this little book looks nice but reads with great difficulty. Unless one has a previous knowledge of, and an affinity to, things such as antiphons, canticles, and so (which I do not), you may ask yourself as I did "Why not just read his original works and forget this archaic, affected format?" Worse is that Merton's most poignant pieces are not found in this book. Formerly a writer and a literature critic for some of the most popular journals of his day, I strongly believe that the learned Thomas Merton would not have enjoyed A Book of Hours.

In clear and concise terms, Frangipane explains the basics of spiritual warfare. Not as entertaining as The Screwtape Letters by C.S. Lewis, but as cognizant of the human vulnerabilities that make us want to blame the Enemy for what our own thoughts and attitudes prevoke. Pithy, not wordy. Will make you think, and possibly make some changes.

For the intercessor who is fresh on the scene this is a must read. This book is very informative and presents the scenario that the prayer warrior has to face in serious intercession. It is so full of information you want to read it and read it again. Each time you get deeper tidbits of great tips for life in the spiritual warfare arena.

These short daily writings are insightful and profound. It is amazing how on many days, what is written for that day is exactly what I need to hear. I recommend this very highly. I have both books and jump between them. They both compliment each other completely. Good whether you have a lot of time in your day, or if you are rushed.

I bought this book and I'm so glad I did! I'm using it every day, speaking God's Word for my life and the positive changes are really remarkable. This is the most useful book I've ever seen by Joyce Meyer and I just can't say enough about it. I'd rate it 10 stars if that were possible. Besides the content itself, this is a really well-made book, very sturdy and small enough to take along in my purse.

Many times when people are praying, they are just speaking to God about their problems. This is faithless prayer and God cannot change anything in your life when you don't ask with faith. God already knows about the situation and think about it this way...God says His Word will never go void, but that He watches over His Word to bring it to pass. When you speak God's Word over situations in your life, situations are guaranteed to improve. Speaking God's Word has caused my faith to grow enormously.

The book is broken down into different topics like courage, health, depression, finance and so many more. Get this book and start using it today!!! God will bless you like never before. Also get "God's Master Plan For Your Life" by Gloria Copeland. It's awesome! I pray that God begins to bless you in every area of your life as you put this foundational principle to work!

I have read this book on a daily basis for over 10 years. Ms. Beattie's thoughts and feelings about life has helped me to live life in more thoughtful and meaningful ways. On rare occasions (twice), I have bought the book again to share with very special people in my life. That is why I ordered 2 books recently. One Journey to the Heart: Daily Meditations on the Path to Freeing Your Soul for my friend and one for me (my original copy is wearing out!).

The entries are inspiring and thought-provoking and encourage us to slow down and take time to enjoy each moment.
