A MUST for All Wiccans and Pagans 5 out of 5 stars.

This book is just simply wonderful. Scott Cunningham was a truly wonderful man and fellow Wiccan, no matter if you are new to Wicca or have been practicing for many years, this and all of his books are a must!!! )O(

Excellent book for beginners........ 5 out of 5 stars.

I did some research online before purchasing Scott Cunningham's book and found that it came highly recommended. As someone who is just learning about Wicca I have found this book to be informative, reassuring, and very straightforward. I would recommend it to anyone who wants to follow the Wiccan path, or is researching the Old Ways, especially if, like me, you live somewhere where it is just about impossible to find anyone to teach you.

Editorial Review:

Cunningham’s classic introduction to Wicca is about how to live life magically, spiritually, and wholly attuned with nature. It is a book of sense and common sense, not only about magick, but about religion and one of the most critical issues of today: how to achieve the much needed and wholesome relationship with our Earth. Cunningham presents Wicca as it is today: a gentle, Earth-oriented religion dedicated to the Goddess and God. Wicca also includes Scott Cunningham’s own Book of Shadows and updated appendices of periodicals and occult suppliers.

Perfect for the true fan of Charmed... 5 out of 5 stars.
0 of 0 people found this review helpful.

I gave this to my daughter (she's 20 yrs. old) who is a fan of Charmed. This was a perfect gift for her. She collects all kinds of Charmed memorabilia. She was really excited when she saw it and poured over it to read all the spells. So for anyone out there who is a true fan of Charmed....it's the perfect gift.

Editorial Review:

The ultimate guide to the hit program Charmed, this is both a book of spells and a key to the mysteries of the show. The Book of Shadows celebrates the best of Charmed, from its roots in the ancient tradition of Wicca to insider information on the show's stars.  N.E. Genge not only provides fascinating background details for the show's Wiccan elements, but also guides readers in performing their own magic. Fans with a witchy bent will learn about the tools of magic and divination and the casting of spells. Recipes and rituals -- from those that beckon love or bless a new business venture to those that bequeath strength or bestow fortune -- are all included.  The Book of Shadows is a sassy celebration of witches, sisterhood, and magic.

This book has not been prepared, approved, licensed, endorsed, or in any way authorized by any entity that created or produced Charmed.

There once was a big, blue book... 2 out of 5 stars.
1 of 1 people found this review helpful.

I think this book is great if you want a how-to book on creating things, or a book about how much Mr. Buckland adores himself. In the beginning of the book he said that it was a non-denominational guide, but to be honest, it was closest to Gardnarian or of course, Seax-Wica. He also said that anyone who reads it fully will be a Third Degree. That's all we need is a bunch of 16 year olds telling me how they're Third Degree in Seax-Wicca.
The book was bland and filled with much of "Do whatever feels right to you", but then is countered with "you must not purchase something from a store" or "You must put your altar in the east" in the next sentence. He also gives you a how-to manual on how to create magickal items, but not many of us have circular saws or power sanders, not to mention engravers or etchers. To me, this book was not helpful, and I throughly recommend to anyone that despairs when they read this book to drop it and head to the closest copy of Wicca: A Guide for the Solitary Practitioner.

Love and Light,
Chicory

Editorial Review:

Here is the most complete self-study course in modern Wicca available, written by the person who first went public with "The Old Religion" in the United States. For group or solitary use, it includes rituals; exercises for developing psychic talents; information on all major "sects" of the Craft; sections on tools, beliefs, dreams, meditations, divination, herbal lore, healing, ritual clothing; and much, much more.

Even those who have practiced Wicca for years find useful information in Buckland's Complete Book of Witchcraft, and many covens are using it as their textbook. Profusely illustrated and full of music and chants.

Editorial Review:

Do you work magic with herbs? Do you use them in spells, for talismans or simply use their innate powers? If you don't have Cunningham's Encyclopedia of Magical Herbs, you need to get it right away. This book has become a classic in its field. Paul Beyerl, a respected author on herbs calls it "…an essential reference book by students of herbalism and magick alike … Scott's personable charm touches every page… I highly recommend this book." And Jeanne Rose, famous author of books on herbs and developer of an herbal course says "I love books like this … It is accessible, easy to read, and with its encompassing index (all too often neglected), simple to use as well." Over 200,000 people already have this book and use it frequently.
In this edition of the book (it's expanded and revised on the 15th anniversary of original publication) you will find the magical properties and folklore of over 400 herbs! You'll also find lists of herbs based on their magical powers, their genders, their planetary rulers, and more. Perhaps the most important list is the folk name cross-reference. With that information, when a recipe calls for "bramble, " you'll know it needs blackberry. Or if the magic calls for "enebro," you'll know you that is juniper.
The main part of this book is the listings of the herbs. Each one includes names, associations, and magical attributions. Violets can be used for protection, luck, love, and more. Primrose is for protection and love. Garlic is for protection, healing, exorcism, lust, and prevention of theft.
This book is considered a classic. It is probably consulted more than any other book on this subject. If you want to learn the secrets of magical herbs, this book is a must!

Editorial Review:

One of the secrets of real magic is that it is controlled by the mind. The more things in your ritual to help your mind associate with your goal, the more powerful your ritual may be. Colored candles, scented oils, natural incenses, and more all add to the impact of the magic you wish to do.
But how do you know which incense to burn? Is it possible to add scented oils together to get a more powerful oil? And how do you make your own, appropriately-scented tools?
The answers to questions like these and hundreds more can be found in The Complete Book of Incense, Oils & Brews by world-famous author Scott Cunningham. This is a greatly expanded and rewritten version of The Magic of Incenses, Oils and Brews. It includes over 100 new formulas, proportions for each element of the recipes (the most requested feature from his previous book), how to substitute ingredients, and much more. Besides the formulas, it also includes the exact methods of making all of these scented tools, including how to extract the essences from the herbs.
Each one of the formulas is precise and easy to make. Do you need luck? Take 2 parts vetivert, 2 parts allspice, 1 part nutmeg, and 1 part calamus, grind them together as finely as possible, then sprinkle the powder in a circle around you, beginning and ending in the East and moving clockwise. Sit within this circle and absorb the powder's energies. Also included are other ways to use magical powders that will have you coming up with your own ideas for them, too.
There is a legion of recipes for incenses. There are three for the sun and two for consecrating talismans. There are incenses for each of the astrological signs and ones to help you study better and gain success. You'll also find incenses for each of the planetary influences. There are four for Saturn alone!
This compendium of magical lore is a vital tool for every magical person on any magical path, whether you are a beginner or an expert.

Better than Cunningham 5 out of 5 stars.
0 of 1 people found this review helpful.

Nothing personal against Scott Cunningham; I'm just not a big fan of his writing style--I got through three of his books in just under twenty minutes; there was nothing to hold my attention or call for deeper reading. I liked this one mch better--well enough, in fact, to loan it to friends. The writing is clear, concise, and informative; this is the best beginners' book I've picked up on the Craft thus far.

Editorial Review:

Due to the sheer number of Wicca 101 books on the market, many newcomers to the Craft find themselves piecing together their Wiccan education by reading a chapter from one book, a few pages from another. Rather than depending on snippets of wisdom to build a new faith, Wicca for Beginners provides a solid foundation to Wicca without limiting the reader to one tradition or path.
Embracing both the spiritual and the practical, Wicca for Beginners is a primer on the philosophies, culture, and beliefs behind the religion, without losing the mystery that draws many students to want to learn. Detailing practices such as grounding, raising energy, visualization, and meditation, this book offers exercises for core techniques before launching into more complicated rituals and spellwork.

An easy to understand book of knowledge for the beginner or a long time practicing witch and pagans alike. Covers almost every topic, has black and white pictures ( some nudity ). This book is a must have for every witch looking for more knowledge.

This is the definitive book on witchcraft 5 out of 5 stars.

just ok 3 out of 5 stars.

I was looking for a potential Xmas gift for my occult-loving cousin. However, this book spends a lot of time on plants, plalnts throughout history, and plant uses; so it's perhaps less intriguing if you aren't really a practicing Wiccan (which I'm not). On the upside, this is apparently published annually so there's always a chance the next one will have more engaging content.

Editorial Review:

The Witches' Almanac is an annual source for thousands of readers, Wiccan and non-Wiccan alike, that includes information on the lunar calendar, pagan legends, spells, interviews.

how-to guide for shamanism 5 out of 5 stars.
3 of 3 people found this review helpful.

Shamanism is not a religion.

A shamanic journey is something you can do, rather easily, if only you try.

you do not need anything other than this book.

Mr. Harner is not in the business of lying to you. He has no time for telling you "truths."

This is a "For Dummies" guide to shamanic practice.

Do not be afraid. If you are interested, buy the book. Do the excercises. See what happens.

Excelent 5 out of 5 stars.
0 of 0 people found this review helpful.

This is a very good book .It is well written and you can see that the Author did some good research.

A reading pleasure. 4 out of 5 stars.
0 of 0 people found this review helpful.

Michael Harner is a pioneer in revitalizing the teachings of Shamanism in North America. This book is interesting, well written, and has very practical information from cover to cover about Shamanism. Anyone wanting to learn about Shamanism should get this book, but you should also seek out a class/workshop in your area to get a real-feel for the teachings. A good place to start would be on the Foundation for Shamanic Studies (FSS) website where you can find workshops being held all over the country. Shamanism dot org.

Although I enjoyed this book, I held back one star due to some vagueness in parts I wish Michael had spent more time on.

Editorial Review:

The phenomenal bestseller, with more than 500,000 copies sold worldwide, now with a new epilogue from the author--The Chalice and the Blade has inspired a generation of women and men to envision a truly egalitarian society by exploring the legacy of the peaceful, goddess-worshipping cultures from our prehistoric past.

not as good as "Earth Power" but still good 4 out of 5 stars.
5 of 6 people found this review helpful.

while I consider myself a christian and not pagan, some would argue that I practice some so-called pagan arts. For centuries my ancestors have practiced a sort of combination, if you will, of Catholic and native traditions. anyway, long story short ~ I like this book and while it doesn't really have any traditions my family would have practiced and mostly focuses on Old World (European) rites/traditions, I still find it interesting. it's not nearly as good as "Earth power" but a good read anyway. take it from me, Scott Cunningham is the perfect author for non-wiccans/pagans looking for good books on invoking the earth: nothing that offends unlike many others on the genre.

Editorial Review:

Selling over 200,000 copies, Earth, Air, Fire & Water features more than 75 spells, rituals, and ceremonies. Cunningham reveals the secrets of the four magical elements, in addition to the fifth one: spirit. He explores their basic nature and the types of rituals associated with each element. Herbs, stones, metals, musical instruments, colors, seasons, direction, and symbols corresponding with each element are also discussed. This bestselling guide to natural magic also introduces the basics of magic-concepts, techniques, and tools-to those who are new to the practice.
