Absolutely the best Beginners Book on Ceremonial Magick. 5 out of 5 stars.

I first read Modern Magick about 20 years ago. I had been studying books by Israel Regardie and Aleister Crowley and was getting nowhere fast. This book is a key that opens up many doors of understanding and will easily take a complete novice to advanced levels of practice with minimal fluff, with heavy emphisis on the practical aspects of Magick.

This book was written by an expierenced magician and all instructions are clearly presented. Working through this book will make just about any other book on the subject of Magick considerably more accessable.

It is my serious belief that this is perhaps the most important book on Magick written in the last fifty years.

At first glance, The Power of Kabbalah seems like an overly simplistic spiritual instruction manual. The language and anecdotes are rabbi-style cozy and the format is exceptionally approachable: one-to-two-page essays. But read a few pages and you're hooked into an experience that immediately promises enlightenment (and eventually delivers it). Although the Kabbalah has its roots in Jewish mysticism, this non-dogmatic manual is applicable to all spiritual seekers. Like Wayne Dyer's bestselling book The Power of Intention, this is actually a book about manifesting the life you want through understanding the laws of spiritual energy and attraction. One copy is at my bedside. One copy is in my study scrawled with notes, quotes and notations! I found the second copy at a bookstore bargain table! I didn't even blink, it was bought by me. I knew a second copy would give me one to share. This book is what Kabbalah is. An amazing book. Simply, amazing.

Rabbi Kaplan does a wonderful job (as he does in all of his works) of explaining the primary text says and of opening the way for further study (through his copious footnotes).

The diagrams are extremely helpful, as are the recommendations concerning the "practical" use of Sefer Yetzirah.

However, even for those grounded in Jewish studies (as a spiritual path, not as an academic field), this work is NOT recommended as a "first step" in the esoteric. Try Rabbi Kaplan's "Innerspace."

What if you had the chance for all of your dreams, as easy as A-B-C, or should I say A-B-D, to come true? Read above the pages - this book is worth it. If you want to learn Hebrew, this book will give you such a closeness to the letters, the hard parts of learning this language will remove the blockage. If you want greater insight into the secrets of life, and how to make life doable - PURCHASE THIS BOOK! If you are a serious scholar related to this area, read and make this book a part of your library.

In the book of Jeremiah the prophet said that his experience of God was just like Fire Shut up in his bones. Author Daniel Matt, nails some interesting Jewish content that reveals how the Kabbalists were touched by Fire and moved by exuberance. Their love for deep spiritual experience is unlike anything I've ever seen or read about before.

"The Essential Kabbalah" is wonderfully written with great foundational principles and some strong historical references pointing to the Torah. The section of the book I really enjoyed was at the beginning under Ein Sof where it talks in depth about the qualities of God. The symbolisim is quite amazing as it talks in depth about the Shekinah Glory of God. The kabbalist were very radical, motivated by a passion that touches the soul deep with in. If you're interested in learning about some of the hidden secrets of ancient Rabbis then let Daniel Matt show you how to unfold that history and the complex symbols that are present. I really enjoyed the book and it was very well written too.

A wonderful connection between the teachings of Kabbalah and a modern love story. The book makes the complex easier to understand. Our book group has decided to make this book our topic of discussion at our next meeting.

All the nuts and bolts data needed to create any magical ceremony for any purpose may be found in this book. Crowley's insights into the inner meanings of the various subjects of Qabalah will greatly help any magician work with the literary aspect of the magical tradition. This book is a must for any magical library of any tradition.

...for any Thelemite or serious high magician. Inside are all the tools required to devise ceremonies of any type. Want to do a love spell? Look at all the correspondences for Netzach, including colors, scents, and goddesses, and then use your imagination and decorate and prepare your altar! (That might be a rather physical form of love, though. Want love on a higher plane? Then try the correspondences for path 14. It will be more nurturing and loving, untainted by the corruption of Netzach.)

There is also a lot on Gematria which can be useful for some magicians, I suppose. To be truthful, I feel Gematria is somewhat overrated in modern magick, due in part to Crowley. Certainly it has its place, but I've seen too many magicians put way too much credence in the way numbers add up to the point they become silly numerologists. Either way though, here is a good place to start for making your own Gematric encyclopedia.
