The books reminds me of the Biblical saying "even the prince of darkness appears as the angel of light". The author of this silly book proposes that we believe the Cinderella story is true--that wishing and hoping will cause desired items and events to materialize.

I learned this magical thinking was not true when I was a young child. The baby of a neighbor died and our whole village of 100 in rural Minnesota sank into grief. Grown men and women wept and I, a young child, believed that if I prayed, the baby would come once again to life. I knelt on my little knees and I prayed but, of course, even the sincerity of my prayers did not yield the desired result.

Now that I am an adult, I realize that the magical thinking of fairy tales needs to be left behind and that instead of believing in magic we need to believe in principles. Instead of magical materialization and the "law of attraction", we need to believe in love for our neighbors, justice, freedom, service and sometimes even sacrifice.

Indeed, the greatest among us have always believed in these great principles and not in the "law of attraction". Instead of magic, the greatest among us have always believed in hard work.

For almost 20 years Jerry and Esther Hicks have been presenting workshops, producing tapes and writing books to help people create the life they desire. And desire is no small word in this agenda. According to the teachings of "Abraham"--a collective name for the spiritual entities that are channeled through Esther--desire is a good and natural force within us. In fact, we are all here to fulfill our desires, according to Abraham. Yet the reason so much of us feel frustrated, is that we have difficulty knowing how to ask and receive whatever we want to be, do or have.

Although Jerry and Esther are listed as the authors, Ask and It Is Given is actually a collection of channeled messages from Abraham. Fans of Abraham and the Hicks may not find new information, but will probably be delighted to have an inspiring, updated book that speaks to the familiar conversation of attracting the life we want. Newcomers may also be intrigued by this excellent, in-depth discussion on how to change one's life by matching the vibrational energy of one's desires--taking the power of positive thinking to a whole new level.

Because this material is channeled, it often reads like The Power of Now or A Course in Miracles--not a fast food book to be devoured in one sitting. Friday the 13th - The luckiest day of my life! 5 out of 5 stars.

Nothing else in the world has resonated with me so profoundly and powerfully as the works of Esther and Jerry Hicks have. I received this collection a few weeks ago and I have listed to it in its entirety twice. I am ready to manifest one of their cruise workshops into my life for next year.

I would like to expand on the first reviewer's comments. Abraham is loving and does have a whimsical sense of humor. Abraham takes you on a guided tour of how to raise your vibrations to the higher levels. This is also called "the emotional journey."

The basic message in this collection is to always be reaching for better feeling thoughts with regards to the situations that are most important to you. Rather than focusing your attention on the lack of something, you always want to be moving toward what it is you want. Look at it this way, does feeling rotten get you anywhere? You might as well reach for thought that will help you feel better rather than dwell upon what you do not like or want. The side effect of being more positive is everything you ever dreamed or hoped for yourself from monetary abundance to relationships to healthy body weight and good health in general.

Today, Friday the 13th of all days, I finally "get it." This could be the luckiest day of my life! I think I have finally moved into the vibrations of positive expectation and knowing. This means that my manifestations are not far off. It's kinda strange to feel and KNOW inside that everything is going to work out the way I want. My affirmations have changed for the positive. I have people at work calling me Suzie Cream Cheese and telling me to shut up because they believe I'm too positive! WOW! What a difference and what a blessing Abraham-Hicks has made in my life. It will be interesting to see what unfolds for me over the next couple of months. I also believe that I can actually HEAR the higher vibration in my ear and I have been able to for the last week!

I wish you much love and success in your lives and I know that you will enjoy listening to Esther as she channels Abraham.

Good to read, bad as scientific proof 2 out of 5 stars.

Definitely NOT a book for science readers.
This book has been written for the spiritual, for faithful believers in healing, clairvoyance, psychokinesis and other spiritual gifts; the reason is because the book says what these people would like to read: scientific evidence of what they believe in.

Many times throughout the book, the author claims experiments' results as scientific proof for a given fact, when the truth is that the author doesn't have a clue on the meaning of scientific proof. She mentions tons of experiments supporting certain theories but there are no specific details to really grasp the reliability of those experiments, and they essentially reflect the experimenters tendency to interpret the results in a way that support their theories.
Just to give you an exaggerated example of her style, she writes things like, "I won five times in a row in a dice game, much more that I could have by chance, so that's scientific evidence of the power of my conciousness and my special future-guessing talents".

On the other hand the author talks about quantum physics throughout the book, as if she had a PhD on the subject, but no one that has spent less that 5 years studying physics full time can claim to really understand what all those quantum and relativistic theories really mean. This is very misleading because people usually think there's a link between quantum physics and conciousness, when all these links are just theories and, so far in history, none of them has proven a solid argument.

A good thing about the book is the fact that it summarizes pretty well many areas of research of paranormal activities, and it provides accurate historical data about personalities that have been involved in such studies, furthermore it's an great start off for those who would like to find out more about specific topics.
