It is always a good idea to get enlightened about different subjects. This is a good place to start. The writing was light and entertaining as well as informative. I recommend it!

Editorial Review:

The Hidden Messages In Water explores water's susceptibility to human words, emotions and thoughts. Japanese scientist Masaru Emoto has been researching this new field of science by freezing samples of water that have been exposed to either positive or negative words, emotions and music. Through photographs Dr. Emoto has found that water exposed to positive influences produces beautiful, perfectly formed crystals, while water exposed to negativity produces ugly, malformed crystals. Because the worls and our bodies are both composed of 70per cent water, the power to change the essence of water means that humans have the power to evoke change on a global or personal scale, by way of water.

Editorial Review:

Since its original publication in 1994, North Carolina Waterfalls has been the most comprehensive guide available to one of the prime natural features of the Tar Heel State. This new edition includes over 600 waterfalls, with detailed directions and trail and beauty ratings for the major waterfalls on public land. For the first time, waterfalls located on private land will be listed, although directions won't be provided.

Visitors to western North Carolina are often surprised at the spectacular variety of waterfalls tucked among the Appalachians all the way from Murphy in the southwest to Stone Mountain in the northeast, and surprisingly, even in eastern locations such as Fayetteville and Rocky Mount. This guide features over 100 color and black-and-white photographs showing those waterfalls at their absolute best. Its special section about photographing waterfalls in general, as well as specific hints for photographing each individual waterfall, will help readers create memorable images of their own.

microhydro - Clean Power from Water 2 out of 5 stars.
12 of 12 people found this review helpful.

Not the best book I've read about Microhydro. I read one published in the 70's and it did a much better job explaining how electricity works and the problems associated with making power from water. Through out microhydro he make references to other parts of the book, it was kind of like teasers when you are watching bad tv, "in just a moment we'll find out what's in Al Capone's secret vault". It was like he didn't have enough to say so he kept stretching it out and repeating things he already said. He also kept talking about the case studies at the end of the book. They were not too informative. All and all I just wanted to let people know I was disappointed. This was supposed to be The Book on microhydro and it just didn't measure up . I more recently read a catch all book for wind, water and solar energy and it did a great job. I would recommend "[[ASIN: Power with Nature Second Edition: Alternative Energy Solutions for Homeowners Updated]]"

Editorial Review:

Hydroelectricity is the world's largest-and cleanest-source of renewable -energy. But despite lively interest in renewables generally, there is an information vacuum about the smallest version of the technology dubbed "the simplest, most reliable and least expensive way to generate power off grid."

Highly illustrated and practical, Microhydro is the first complete book on the topic in a decade. Covering both AC and DC systems, it covers principles, design and site considerations, equipment options, and legal, environmental, and economic factors.

Scott Davis has decades of experience operating, installing, designing, selling, and teaching about microhydro technology. An award-winner in the field, he currently works as a system designer and retailer with an alternative energy company for whom he has authored an on-line microhydro course.

Editorial Review:

With the Midwest under water, America had a chance to see how effectively it had "improved" its rivers. We've straightened and dredged them, revetted and rerouted them, made massive efforts to control them, yet our actions have been less than successful. Too often, physical changes made to a river conflict with natural processes, resulting in--rather than alleviating--damage. Applying available knowledge on how rivers form and act could prevent such problems. In this book, Luna Leopold seeks to organize such knowledge. Widely regarded as the most creative scholar in the field of river morphology, Leopold presents a coherent description of the river, its shape, size, organization, and action, along with a consistent theory that explains much of the observed character of channels.

The laws of physics that govern rivers allow for variations, many of them dictated by random chance. Thus, a river's adaptation, as Leopold describes it, tends toward the most probable form, the one with the least variance among hydraulic parameters. We see how this probabilistic tendency plays out as Leopold views the river as a whole from headwater to mouth, in the drainage net, in the behavior of meanders, and in aspects of sediment transport.

Grounded in hydraulics, geomorphology, and surveying, as well as in extensive fieldwork on rivers in the eastern and Rocky Mountain states, Leopold's view of a river is at once technical and personal, providing both a firm foundation for understanding the behavior of rivers--including instructions for getting started in backyard hydrology--and a wealth of firsthand observations by a thoughtful and experienced scientist. It will be of immediate interest and great use as we seek to develop, preserve, and appreciate our most fluid natural resource.

Pumping too Much 4 out of 5 stars.
10 of 10 people found this review helpful.

Glennon writes in plain English to warn Americans of the growing danger under our feet. We are pumping groundwater, the gift of fresh and wholesome well water, at an unsustainable rate across the country. Glennon ties groundwater to surface water and illustrates in terms that are as accessible as they are urgent that the United States is headed for a crisis of our own making.

Using a number of case studies, Glennon gives us a glimpse of the American approach to ground water. Throughout much of the US, ground water is considered legally separate from surface water. Within this legal framework, there are few restrictions placed on the use (and abuse) of a critical resource that respects neither property lines nor political boundaries. Indeed, the law encourages abuse with a use-it-or-lose it philosophy to ownership of ground water. Whoever pumps the most wins. Unfortunately, we are pumping so much ground water that rivers, lakes, and ponds across the nation are running dry--ruining many local ecosystems in the process and setting ourselves up for major economic ramifications. With the studies Glennon has chosen, he shows us the consequences of unrestricted ground water pumping for lawns, for agricultural uses, and in support of mining. In every case, Glennon demonstrates that we are doing grave damage to ourselves with our profligate pumping.

This book belongs on the reading list of all high school and college students, regardless of major or course of study.

A guide to how water can prevent and treat disease as well as rejuvenate the body and mind

• Shows the role water deficiency plays in a large number of diseases and other health disorders

• Explains how to determine the quality and quantity of water that is best for you and the time during the day it is best to drink

• Includes 10 water cures for profound physical rehydration, toxin removal, and remineralization

Drinking sufficient quantities of water is a necessity for optimal physical functioning, but it can also play a major role in the prevention and treatment of many diseases. Chronic fatigue, depression, eczema, rheumatism, gastric disorders, high or low blood pressure, high cholesterol, obesity, and urinary infections are but a few of the many disorders that can result from not drinking enough water--and which can be treated by raising our intake of this vital liquid.

The physical assaults that our bodies endure from pollution, stress, overly rich and processed foods (often containing too much salt), and alcohol and tobacco have dramatically increased our daily need for water over what our ancestors required. Christopher Vasey explains not only why water is so essential to our health but also what quantities we should drink and when. He also discusses the qualities of different types of water and demonstrates which will best address certain conditions. In addition, he provides 10 water cures that will rehydrate the deepest levels of the body, remove toxins, and restore vital minerals.

way too simple 1 out of 5 stars.
4 of 5 people found this review helpful.

This book is far too basic. Almost all of the book is
about very simple electrical concepts; the "hydronic
controls" portions are only examples of these general
concepts. I was greatly disappointed with the book --
most manufacturer's web sites have much better and
more understandable descriptions.

Excellent for the novice 5 out of 5 stars.

I am a complete novice when it comes to hydronic controls. Basically, I'm an owner-builder who decided to install radiant heat. Since I know nothing about setting it up, I rely on elementary books and materials from the internet to gain knowledge.

Installing the PEX tubing in the slab was easy enough as was attaching the tubing to the underside of the second floor. I had intended to hire someone to finish the set-up but when finances became tight I decided to have a go at it.

I'm not done yet but this book has given me confidence to continue on.

Editorial Review:

This short book explains hot water heating (hydronic) controls and circuits from the perspective of power suppy, switch, and load. The book starts with a simple control circuit and builds to multiple zone circuits. It explains that adding a control panel simplifies a job rather than making it more complex. The book then looks at various panels, building from an aquastat relay to multiple-zone and multiple-purpose panels.

What a beautiful book! 5 out of 5 stars.
3 of 3 people found this review helpful.

The amazing thing about this beautiful book, to me, is the fact that these two guys (Brooks and Cook) wrote this book while they were still students at Clemson University. When I was a student, my weekends were never this productive. Heck, I couldn't even afford food. Any one who was able to produce such beautiful pictures on a student's budget merits my greatest admiration. Great directions, too. I really liked the inclusion of GPS coordinates for waypoints.

Moonshine Falls featured on Turner South 5 out of 5 stars.

If you haven't had a chance to view Turner South's "Three Day Weekend," make sure to tune in to the Greenville, SC "Three Day Weekend," featuring Moonshine Falls, one of the falls included in this book. This episode ran in early August, and provides an excellent testimonial for the beauty of upstate South Carolina.

Great Photos! 5 out of 5 stars.

As a photographer, I found the photography to be spectacular! Ihe commentary was equally well done. I highly recommend this guide.

Editorial Review:

This follow up to Dr. Emoto’s international bestseller The Hidden Messages in Water is the result of his latest scientific research into the healing properties of water. Building upon his previous work, which proved that water and water molecules are affected by our thoughts, words, and emotions, in The True Power of Water, Dr. Emoto makes the case that water literally holds the key to good health and shows how we can interact with it with our thoughts, intentions, and prayer to reverse illness.

Accompanied by numerous compelling photographs showing that water crystals are transformed according to the positive and negative thoughts they are exposed to, this book provides practical steps that anyone can use to improve their own well-being by learning how to consciously interact with water, the primary component of our bodies. Also discussed is Dr. Emoto’s research into the effects of prayer to purify rain water, helping to bring healing to the earth, as well as the mechanistic limitations of Western medicine and its understanding of both healing and disease. No one who reads Dr. Emoto’s works will ever take water for granted again.
