A must for all chiropractors 5 out of 5 stars.
3 of 3 people found this review helpful.

Dr. Eriksen's book is a significant contribution to the profession. Don't be misled by the title--this book is a must read for all chiropractors--not just upper cervical specialists. It provides the "intellectual ammunition" to respond to those who claim there is no scientific evidence to support subluxation.

A comprehensive resource 5 out of 5 stars.

Dr. Erickson's work is exemplary! I am a psychological researcher and have found his book invaluable. His editorial comments are very well written. The future of Chiropractic Orthospinology is in good hands - literally.

Useful Book 5 out of 5 stars.

This book would have to be the most comprehensive gathering of literature concerning Upper Cervical Specific Chiropractic (UCSC), ever. You may need to know everything that has spawned in the literature since Dr BJ Palmer's controversial assertion that the upper cervical spine is the only place chiropractors will find a subluxation. You may just want to casually look up a paper written on the upper cervical spine's influence on health. The book is designed for either type of study. In fact, the beauty of this book is that you don't have to read it so much as refer to it. And for the busy clinician, that's all we can realistically expect.

UCSC is a specialty within chiropractic. As Dr Dan Murphy, DC states in the introduction, for a third of chiropractic's century as a profession "the predominant practice of chiropractic involved primarily the upper cervical spine". Yet, as the Australian experience reflects, it is very few in this country indeed that refrain from directing forces to areas other than C1.

This book is incredible . Everything I have encountered in my own endeavour to seek out anything scientific supporting what BJ was zealously advocating all those years ago, without any apparent evidence, is here. Any low-level writing, such as that of general digest publications, is tolerated well because the reader can look at references instantly to find out how to mentally categorise each opinion. This is a unique format; you don't have to sift through a reference list at the end to see if it was written in this decade, or if your scientific nemesis wrote it! Older papers are listed first, and editorial comment is distinctly defined from abstracts and text. What an enormous gap it fills on my bookshelf.

The only thing this book has not done is to explain the extremely limited uptake of UCSC amongst chiropractors in - and outside of - the USA; which, in turn explains the aching lack of research into large populations undergoing upper cervical chiropractic care, and it's impact on public health.

Yet, does it not make far more sense to discover the intricacies of the articulations of the skull base before any other region is attempted? If you answered yes, this book is for you. If "no", you still need to own it as a complete "chirocentric" literature review of the topic.

Editorial Review:

Text is a culmination of detailed research and review of chiropractic and medical literature on the topic of the cervical spine, the occipito-atlanto-axial subluxation, and upper cervical chiropractic care. Reviews more than 1,200 research papers and features more than 400 illustrations. For chiropractors and residents. DNLM: Spinal Diseases--therapy.

Great practical book for osteopathic physicians. 4 out of 5 stars.
14 of 15 people found this review helpful.

This is a great practical book for the osteopathic physician. I use it frequently when caring for hospital patients. While it has sections on various types of diseases (upper respiratory, GI,etc.) Dr. Kuchera also has a basic outline on how to use osteopathy in any sort of disease state. This means you can take the basic philosophy and apply it in any situation. I highly recommend it to all osteopathic physicians and students of osteopathy.

Editorial Review:

This text is divided into sections in order to present an osteopathic approach to dysfunction manifesting in a particular system pertinent to a common clinical presentation. The divisions are grouped by their common autonomic and lymphatic elements. The purpose of the book is to explore selected structural and functional consideration which may produce symptoms or compromise homeostasis. It also demonstrates, by example, clinical application of the osteopathic philosophy in selected situation. Lastly, it attempts to show where osteopathic manipulative treatments can be prescribed as primary or adjunctive modalities available to the DO as they assist patients in reaching their maximum health potential.

Basic Chiropractic technique made easy... 4 out of 5 stars.
20 of 21 people found this review helpful.

This book is in use for the Chiropractic course in Odense, Denmark, as a textbook on chiropractic technique in the 5.th and 6.th semester of the 10 semester university programme. Great book with nice illustrations, allthough there are a few mistakes or typing errors. This is a great book for teaching manipulative therapy.

Editorial Review:

The first-ever book to describe the rationale behind adjustment techniques for the spine, pelvis, and extremities, this NEW 2nd edition offers thoroughly revised chapters, new illustrations, a reorganized layout, and extensive updates. The basic anatomical, biomechanical, and pathophysiological principles necessary for applying specific adjustive procedures are discussed in detail. It also offers a fundamental understanding of joint and body mechanics, as well as key evaluative tests and procedures, to help the reader evaluate, select, and utilize the most effective adjustive techniques. Coverage of chiropractic history provides a broad understanding of general concepts and practice. Theory and practice combine to make CHIROPRACTIC TECHNIQUE, 2ND EDITION a must-have for anyone seeking a solid foundation in joint examination and chiropractic adjustment.

Typical old-school bias against chiropractic 1 out of 5 stars.
20 of 40 people found this review helpful.

I couldn't help but peruse this thing. It's chapter after chapter of out-of date claims by those who simply can't accept the fact that chiropractic is here to stay and that a growing body of research supports more and more of what they do.

Usual junk. Don't buy this book unless you're part of a campaign to spread ignorance and lies about something that the author clearly has a political agenda about.

Editorial Review:

Canadians visit chiropractors about thirty million times a year, and surveys show that patients are generally satisfied with their treatment. But studies also show that as many as two hundred Canadians a year suffer strokes brought on by neck manipulation. Spin Doctors takes a hard, dramatic, and spinechilling look into the world of chiropractic medicine. You will be surprised to learn what chiropractors treat and why and how much it costs you as a taxpayer. Most importantly, you'll learn how to protect yourself and your family from dangerous adjustments, practicebuilding tactics, bogus treatments, and misleading information.

Clinical Application of Neuromuscular Techniques - Vol. I 5 out of 5 stars.
26 of 29 people found this review helpful.

This is a really clearly written, concise book, with drawings and pictures of muscle positions, trigger points, etc. I bought the Jane Travell Myofascial Pain and Dysfunction Books before this one came out, and for the money wish I had bought the Clinical Application of Neuromuscular Tech. Book. Unless you are a Physician, who wants to inject the patient's trigger points with a saline solution, and then you better be very exact in your aim with the needle, I think the Clinical Application of Neurom. Tech. Book is a much more practical, useful, hands on, straight forward book that addresses all the trigger points, origins and insertions of the muscles in a very user friendly way. Until this book came out, Jane Travell's was the only great reference guide; but what patient really likes injections? Now this book surpasses Dr. Travells, in that all the material in it is useful and usable. Can't wait for Vol. II, Lower Body, to come out.

Editorial Review:

This volume presents the theories, validation and techniques of manual treatment for both chronic and acute neuromuscular pain and somatic dysfunction. The book takes a regional approach to treatment, providing a structural review of each area including ligaments and functional anatomy. It then examines each muscle and joint for a particular region, and includes step-by-step protocols for each muscle to be treated, giving particular reference to the treatment of trigger points. This text ensures the safe and effective application of soft tissue techniques and provides an invaluable source of reference to all manual therapy students and practitioners.

Simply Outstanding 5 out of 5 stars.
9 of 9 people found this review helpful.

I often shake my head in disbelief to think that many of my fellow chiropractors will shell out thousands of dollars in practice management seminars when a book such as this exists for a fraction of the cost, and in truth, is much better.

Ivan Delman has managed to take important universal truths of business success and apply it to chiropractic in a simple but powerful way. Passion, wisdom, humor, and compassion are the hallmarks of his writing style that walks you through essential steps in creating the practice of your dreams.

Just as in chiropractic we tell our patients to please try chiropractic first before doing expensive, needless surgery, I suggest that D.C.'s read this gem of a book first before attending an expensive seminar.

You won't be sorry.

Editorial Review:

At last! Discover the management secrets for building a profitable practice.

To stay competitive in this current health care marketplace, the modern chiropractor must know how to use the proven business principles essential for successful practice management.

Without this knowledge, managing your practice could be a nightmare.

Good book for medically-based chiropractors. 4 out of 5 stars.
6 of 9 people found this review helpful.

Written by DC's and PhD's at National College of Chiropractic. Red ruled sections give relevant clinical information, which is nice, and chapter 11 (pain of spinal origin)is very helpful, but it can sometimes read like stereo instructions.

Editorial Review:

This one-of-a-kind text describes the specific anatomy and neuromusculoskeletal relationships of the human spine, with special emphasis on structures affected by manual spinal techniques. A comprehensive review of the literature explores current research of spinal anatomy and neuroanatomy, bringing practical applications to basic science. * A full chapter on surface anatomy includes tables for identifying vertebral levels of deeper anatomic structures, designed to assist with physical diagnosis and treatment of pathologies of the spine, as well as evaluation of MRI and CT scans. * High-quality, full-color illustrations show fine anatomic detail. * Red lines in the margins draw attention to items of clinical relevance, clearly relating anatomy to clinical care. * Spinal dissection photographs, as well as MRIs and CTs, reinforce important anatomy concepts in a clinical context.

Spectacular book for Part IV Boards 5 out of 5 stars.
4 of 4 people found this review helpful.

This is a great book for the Part IV chiropractic boards. The questions helped me to prepare for the type of questions on this exam. The questions in this study guide were of the type encountered on the boards. I would also highly recommend getting volume 1 because the x-ray portion is a big percentage on this exam. This book helped me to get ready for what would be asked in the patient history rooms and the adjustment rooms. Also, it showed me which orthopedic tests were heavily tested along with neuro packages. This is a must book, many of my chiropractic friends have used this book and also found it very helpful! I wouldn't go into the part 4 board without reviewing this book first.

Editorial Review:

This is Volume 2 of 2 for the Part IV Exam. Volume 1 covers Diagnostic Imaging for the Part IV Exam. This is the most specific and thorough study guide for the National Board of Chiropractic Part IV Exam. This test preparation study guide consists of the following sections: Case Management & Technique Practical. This is a must for every chiropractic student or doctor of chiropractic taking the Part IV Exam.

Are you suffering from M.E.? Are you caring for someone with M.E.? Does someone close to you have M.E.? Almost certainly it will have taken your doctor some time to arrive at the diagnosis of M.E. and once there you may have been offered little more than antidepressants to help with the condition.
