Good for class- too long for the Boards 4 out of 5 stars.
7 of 7 people found this review helpful.

If you are a starting MS1 this is a good book to use for class as it has alot of good detail condensed in an outline format. It comes with a CD that has been quite helpful. However, when it comes to the Boards is just too big of a book for a subject that is not high yield- think about it- this book is just as big as BRS Path. Do you really have that much time to read a low yield subject? No. So instead for Histo- I recommend using a smaller book to review for the boards: I recommed Road Maps: Histo as opposed to High Yield Histo.

First year med student 2 out of 5 stars.

I have used many of the BRS books for class (the physio one is great!), but this one I found to be confusing and disorganized. It was not pertinent to the material covered on the USMLE or in microbio. I would probably recommend finding another book to study with (in our school we studied more hitsology than cell bio, so it depends on your curriculum).

A book that has stood the test of time. 5 out of 5 stars.
88 of 88 people found this review helpful.

Now in its 5th edition, this book has become "thee" muscle testing book to have. Who's it for? Anyone who has a need to be able to MANUAL muscle test any of the body's muscles. This would include such professionals as doctors, nurses, physical therapists, athletic trainers, personal trainers, etc.

How does the book work? Well, you look up the particular muscle you want to test, look at the picture of the test position, and then simply apply manual pressure to the limb in the instructed direction. If it sounds easy, it is the way this book shows you- included are dozens and dozens of GREAT pictures that show you precisely what to do. So, if you have a need to regularly test muscles, I highly recommend you get this book- it's a little bit more expensive than some of the other muscle testing books, but its the best I've come across so far- in fact it sits right on my desk for reference. Health professionals might also be interested in The Sixty-Second Motivator to help get clients motivated to do their home exercise programs consistently.

Editorial Review:

This renowned classic provides unparalleled coverage of manual muscle testing, plus evaluation and treatment of faulty and painful postural conditions. The thoroughly updated Fifth Edition is completely reorganized and has new, expanded treatment and exercise sections in each chapter. Other features include a new section on post-polio syndrome, additional case studies comparing Guillain-Barré to polio muscle tests, a new full-color design, and a first-of-its-kind chart of upper extremity articulations. A bonus Primal Anatomy CD-ROM contains a three-dimensional interactive model of the human body. Students can rotate the model and add or subtract layers of anatomy to strengthen their knowledge.

book's details helped me with lab and lecture 5 out of 5 stars.
0 of 0 people found this review helpful.

I don;t know why this book has low scoring reviews because each time I used it before going into lab, i learned SO much. I learned many practical tips that were presented in a more interesting way than my class outline or other books. I thought it was really helpful in understanding the material in general and in prep for the lab specifically.

Grant's Dissector 5 out of 5 stars.

Very awesome book to get for anatomy. Has helped my lab group and me a lot during the dissection of the human body.

Great seller, but 12th edition 1 out of 5 stars.
0 of 1 people found this review helpful.

The book turned out to be the 12th edition which was too old for my need, however the seller was excellent about letting me return it and promptly giving me a full refund.

Editorial Review:

The Thirteenth edition of Grant's Dissector restores this renowned anatomy lab manual to its original purpose, which is to serve as a step-by-step manual for dissection procedures. This new edition features a more streamlined approach to cadaver dissection, focusing on more accurate, specific, and clear steps. The overall number of pages and figures has been reduced, reflecting a general trend toward fewer contact hours in the gross anatomy lab.

Good book but not an easy read! 3 out of 5 stars.
1 of 1 people found this review helpful.

Even though this is a great book, it is not a great book for a beginner. Like most, I became interested in the BRS series after physiology, and I decided to use this book for neuroanatomy. This book is not as easy to read. It is extremely dense reading that is cut and dry. I found myself using the glossary in the back of the book every other sentence to look up terms used all through the book (ex: dysdiadochokinesia , ataxia, dystonia, etc). It makes reading each chapter very time consuming for a beginner. However, this book does have a good side. Using lecture materials along with this book gave me just enough information to understand it. Additionally, this book is very concise. It will cover just about everything well. I also used it extensively as a reference. In the end, I had a decent experience with this book, but I think that I would have been happier with another source that presented material in a format easier to read. So, the moral of the story is: If you are acquainted with the subject, this is a great book. Otherwise, look for an easier source to learn the material first. Just as a side note, the BRS and high yield neuroanatomy books are written by the same author, and a couple of my friends seemed happier with the high yield book.

This book was purchased for a high-school course.
Class hasn't started yet so can't rate the book
properly. I presume that it is good because the
school chose it.

College student 5 out of 5 stars.
2 of 2 people found this review helpful.

I love this book because it is extremely thourough. When I was in anatomy class I had to teach the course to myself because the professor never taught anatomy. So I studied from this book and I got an A in the course. It gets in depth about the macroscopic AND microscopic anatomy and describes the anatomy/physiology/functions/and detailed pictures.

Well written. 5 out of 5 stars.

The text is well written. The study guide is extremely helpful. The ADAM interactive CD set is a MUST. It is awsome at explaining visually what the book and study guide put in writing.

I purchased this book as a requirement for a human anatomy class.

The book is very detailed, but flows well and the concepts are easily understood. It is one of the better science book I have used.

Excellent Review for a low yield subject on the Boards 5 out of 5 stars.
3 of 3 people found this review helpful.

This is much more concise than the new version. This little book helps you put the H.Y. facts of embryo together not just as a subject on its own but in conjunction to pathology. I would specially recommend the first 3 chapters to get a quick idea of embryo genesis and the cardio, respiratory, GI sections for quick kill on the congenital abnormalities that are extensively talked about in Pathology. I particularly recommend to read the latter chapters alongside with Goljan's Rapid Review Pathology.

Editorial Review:

High-Yield(TM) Embryology, Third Edition provides a concise, focused review of the most important embryology information needed for the USMLE Step 1. Chapters cover prefertilization events and the embryonic period, embryologic development of each organ system, chromosomal abnormalities, inherited diseases, teratology and more. To prepare students for the clinical vignettes on the USMLE, the book includes numerous clinical cases with words and phrases that patients use. A mini-atlas at the end of each chapter presents photographs, MRIs, CT scans, and radiographs of various congenital malformations.

Woman to Woman 4 out of 5 stars.
5 of 5 people found this review helpful.

It's a great resource for me. I am a woman who goes to the gym for fitness and strength training. Even though the gym provides a trainer, who has explained these things to me, the great illustrations in this book really help me to visualize how the muscles work and I now understand and can work them even better.

Editorial Review:

Perfect for beginning and advanced fitness practitioners alike, this is an in-depth look into the most magnificent machine ever created--the human body. Editorial Review:

Designed to provide students with essential concepts of disease processes and altered health states, Essentials of Pathophysiology is ideal for both discrete and integrated pathophysiology courses. This abundantly illustrated text is extremely readable and filled with learning tools to highlight important ideas for the reader. Key concept boxes draw attention to important facts, color-coded summaries clarify complex processes discussed throughout the chapters, and icons appear throughout the text highlighting appropriate considerations for children, the elderly, and pregnant women. The free CD-ROM contains 3-D animations, and also contains more than 500 multiple-choice questions to test the reader's knowledge of difficult concepts. In keeping with the author's philosophy, Essentials of Pathophysiology relates normal body functioning to the physiologic changes that participate in disease production and occur as a result of the disease. Content is arranged so that concepts build upon one another, thus promoting conceptual understanding as opposed to memorization. Loved the text but didn't get to color 4 out of 5 stars.
0 of 0 people found this review helpful.

The panes of information were an excellent complement to my neuroanatomy instruction. However, anyone in medical school can attest to the fact that time is of the essence. As I look through my book, I notice that I only had time to color in 14 pictures (some weren't complete). Many of my classmates fared worse as they purchased "Neuroanatomy Primer: Color to Learn" and used it even less. If you struggle with anatomy, this will definetly help! If you do well with structures and locations, then you probably won't take the time to utilize this tool.

useful tool 5 out of 5 stars.

I used this for a Neurology class as an additional study guide and I found it to be very beneficial tool for the learning process and who does not love to color! Yes, buy it if you need the extra help. It gets detailed in the later chapters (our brains are complex :) ,but I find if you go over the things you need the work on the most, it will help.
