Great, but type is microscopic! 4 out of 5 stars.

This is an invaluable resource in terms of content. It is the pocket size, which is convenient. Understand that the small size means that the type is incredibly small. You might need a microscope to read this!

Great Clinical Reference! 5 out of 5 stars.

For all medical practitioners this Sanford Guide is the definitive pocket guide for infectious disease treatment. Updated annually with the latest treatment recommendations from professional groups. I use it nearly daily when considering antibiotic selection and disease treatment.

Not convenient to use 2 out of 5 stars.

The book had all the information I wanted but the print was totally unreadable due to size...I opted for the more expensive spiral bound version.

best pocketbook for clinicians 5 out of 5 stars.

for medical doctors who work in a busy health unit and need at any time a handy book to review antibiotics, bugs and side effects.
very-very helpfull for clinicians with a subspesialty (rheumatology, nephrology, hematology etc) who need fast to have access on information such as the appropriate antibiotic and the first in line medication.

must be in your pocket for inpatient/outpatient care! 4 out of 5 stars.

We all need this pocket book to stay current on Abx. Rx and Tx.--period. Dosing, too, and specific infective regimens are also noted. My only complaint is that sometimes it is confusing and tedious to FIND what you need. An updated charting system, and easier to find categories would be nice in the next edition.

Editorial Review:

Always a student favorite, Pharmacology for Nursing Care offers a clear approach explaining drug prototypes and how they work. It provides the background needed to understand related drugs currently on the market, as well as drugs yet to be released. In simplifying a complex subject, this text focuses on the essentials of pharmacology. Large print is used to show "need-to-know" information, and small print is used for "nice to know" material. At the end of each chapter, a summary of major nursing implications helps in applying the material to real-world situations. This edition includes a new companion CD-ROM featuring NCLEX® examination-style review questions, a variety of electronic calculators, and animations depicting drug mechanisms and effects.

  • Uses a prototype drug approach that places a strong emphasis on understanding over memorization equipping students with the knowledge to learn not only about related drugs currently on the market, but also about those drugs that will be released once the student begins practice.
  • Summaries of Major Nursing Implications at the end of each chapter provide an in-depth look at assessment, implementation, and ongoing evaluations.
  • Utilizes large print for essential information and small print for "nice-to-know" information to help both faculty and students focus their limited classroom and study time on understanding the essentials.
  • Concise drug summary tables present detailed information on individual drugs, including class, generic and trade names, dosages, routes, and indications.
  • Key Points at the end of each chapter summarize content in a bulleted format to help students review important concepts.
  • Prototype drug discussions employ a clear and consistent format with separate headings for Mechanism of Action; Pharmacologic Effects; Pharmacokinetics; Therapeutic Uses; Adverse Effects; Drug Interactions; and Preparations, Dosage, and Administration.
  • An attractive full-color design adds visual interest, highlights key information, and facilitates student learning.

  • Drugs for Multiple Sclerosis and Drugs for Hemophilia chapters.
  • Drugs for Erectile Dysfunction and Benign Prostatic Hyperplasia chapter covers newsworthy drugs such as Viagra and Levitra.
  • Special Interest Topics boxes on current issues in pharmacology, such as Medication-Overuse Headache: Too Much of a Good Thing and Face Time with Botox.
  • Adult Immunization appendix summarizes the latest information on immunizations.
  • Numerous new illustrations show drug mechanisms and effects, and depict topics such as histologic changes in Alzheimer's disease and the movement of drugs following GI absorption.

    From a pharmacist's perspective 5 out of 5 stars.
5 of 5 people found this review helpful.

This is by far the finest, most comprehensive text book on pharmaceutical calculations available. This is the text by which all others are judged. It is great for the student who is unfamiliar with this topic as well as for the pharmacist who could use a refresher course. It makes a great reference text for the pharmacy.

    Editorial Review:

The gold standard textbook in its area for sixty years, Pharmaceutical Calculations is now in its Twelfth Edition. Every chapter has been revised and updated to reflect the basic calculations applicable to the contemporary practice of pharmacy.
This edition provides expanded coverage of enteral and parenteral nutrition. New features include "Calculations Capsules" -boxed summaries of the type of calculation presented in each chapter, and "A Case in Point" -practical cases with step-by-step solutions to demonstrate each type of calculation.
Review exercises at the end of the book are completely updated. This edition includes answers to all practice and review problems.

Life changing 5 out of 5 stars.
0 of 0 people found this review helpful.

After listening to Pete Egoscue on the radio, and trying some e-cises, we decided to order the book. We have used specific e-cises to relieve hip, leg and back pain. They are easy to do, but work like a miracle to alleviate pain.

    Editorial Review:

Pete Egoscue learned a lot about pain when, as a Marine officer, he was wounded in Vietnam. He segued from patient to physical therapist, and now runs a famous clinic in San Diego, where he claims he's helped 95 percent of his patients cure chronic pain--including Jack Nicklaus and Charles Barkley, whose athletic careers he helped prolong. At the heart of his program are stretches and motion exercises to restore proper function to muscles and joints. His methods are often surprising and counterintuitive. For example, for foot pain, he suggests a series of hip exercises. In fact, this is one of the most startling books you'll read about the human organism. Egoscue has strong opinions about how modern life is changing the way our bodies function, reducing the tasks we must perform and thus reducing the functional range of motion of our muscles and joints. Fortunately, he offers movement exercises to restore what nature meant us to have.

I used this book to prepare for my Pharmacology exam in university,it's a great book, my pharmacology course based on this book so it was very helpful.Afcourse it's not enough, for a med.student who is looking for pharmokinetic's,that's why i bought 2 books in one time: Lippincott's "Pharmacology 3th" and Katzung "Clinical pharmacology".

    Editorial Review:

Lippincott's Illustrated Reviews: Pharmacology, Fourth Edition enables rapid review and assimilation of large amounts of complex information about the essentials of medical pharmacology. Clear, sequential pictures of mechanisms of action actually show students how drugs work, instead of just telling them. As in previous editions, the book features an outline format, over 500 full-color illustrations, cross-references to other volumes in the series, and over 125 review questions. Content has been thoroughly updated, and a new chapter covers toxicology. New to this edition will be a companion Website containing all of the illustrations, fully searchable text, and an interactive question bank.
