Helped me a lot in my neonatal resuscitation licensure. The CD was a good source by itself.

Easy to READ, easy to understand! 5 out of 5 stars.

Make sure you get this book, its the most updated and is very user friendly!

Good study tool 5 out of 5 stars.

I used this book to study for NRP, and reading through it and doing the tests definitely prepared me for the class. Others I know used the disc to study and liked it as well. It's nice that there are 2 different types of study tools for people since not everyone learns the same way.

Editorial Review:

The new fifth edition provides students with a complete self-study program, including case scenarios for each major resuscitation technique; Medication Performance Checklist; required megacode; review modules, and more. Also, included with the text is the new interactive DVD, which includes video of actual resuscitations, laryngoscopic camera footage, interactive scenarios, plus 3-D demonstrations and other visuals not found in the book.

Olds' lacking index 2 out of 5 stars.
1 of 1 people found this review helpful.

While this text is a core for many parent-child health nursing courses and does have some great information, it's greatest drawback is the index. Yes, the index. The index is poorly designed such that students often cannot find the particular subject matter they are searching for. Although this appears to be a minor concern, after wasted hours at failed attempts to locate many different items, this issue is both frustrating and a drain on nursing students' precious resource - time.

    Editorial Review:

Nurses working with childbearing families face a variety new challenges, including shortened lengths of hospital stay, the trend toward greater use of community-based and home care, and downsizing and mergers of health-care systems. This book is not only important reading for maternity nurses, but also can be used as an invaluable reference tool.

The Eighth Edition of this popular book not only continues to emphasize the central role played by maternity nurses working with today's childbearing families, but also includes a global perspective, covering culture as a factor in relating to the woman's childbirth experience. It also includes a comprehensive, accessible segment on women's health issues.

For nurses in the fields of women's health, maternity, and newborn care

    Editorial Review:

The number of children taking prescription drugs for every type of ailment has reached epidemic proportions. Child Health Guide offers sensible alternatives to this disturbing trend, providing the information parents need to make informed decisions about natural healing for their children and the integration of natural treatments into their children's medical care. The book covers the prenatal period through infancy, toddlerhood, and into middle childhood, with emphasis on extended breastfeeding, co-sleeping, a natural foods diet, avoidance of toxic chemicals, limited use of vaccines, and treatment of health problems with homeopathic medicines and herbs. Child Health Guide respects parents' choices while providing persuasive arguments for building a healthy immune system by avoiding conventional drugs and stressing natural methods. Using an educational and informative tone, the book discusses preventive medicine, the causes of poor health in children, and common foods and chemical exposures that can contribute to chronic illness. It also provides nutritional interventions that strengthen immunity and promote healing.

GREAT Breastfeeding book!! 5 out of 5 stars.
0 of 0 people found this review helpful.

This book is awesome for any parent (men included) trying to decide whether or not to breastfeed their baby! Very educational, but interesting and funny at the same time. Even if you think you know all you need to know about breastfeeding, read this book!!

The BEST book on breastfeeding EVER! 5 out of 5 stars.
0 of 0 people found this review helpful.

GET THIS BOOK. Know someone who is pregnant and planning on nursing? This is the perfect book. Pregnant yourself? BUY THIS BOOK. I laughed the entire time, read it cover to cover repeatedly and it very quickly became my bible. Don't wait. Get it now.

If you only buy one breastfeeding book... 5 out of 5 stars.
0 of 0 people found this review helpful.

This is the one you should buy.

I recommend this book to all pregnant women who are trying to decide how to feed their babies. It gives you the facts, uses easy to understand language (super important when the reader is trying to deal with pregnancy horomones or sleep deprivation, and most importantly, will make you laugh out loud)

Not to know other breastfeeding books but a lot of them seem almost, well hippieish (no offense, hippies) but this book was written by someone that seemed a lot like me. Working mom, educated, but still didn't know a lot about breastfeeding until she really looked into it. This book will teach you so much about why breastmilk is better than artificial baby milk and give you plenty of ammunition for mothers-in-law, friends or complete strangers that question your decision (the comebacks page is the funniest part of the whole book)

I really can not recommend this book enough, although I try to since everyone I know that's pregnant is either given a copy or if I don't know them that well at least told about the book and sent a link to here so they can buy it.

    Editorial Review:

From bestselling author Janet Tamaro comes the third edition of So That's What They're For! For years, moms have relied on this staple book-now infused with new sections, including breastfeeding multiples and monitoring nutrition, and featuring completely revised and updated resource materials. Reflecting the latest in breastfeeding research, and packed with humorous anecdotes, this book proves (again) that breastfeeding advice does not have to be boring!

A must-have for nights on-call in the NICU! 5 out of 5 stars.
11 of 11 people found this review helpful.

This book, particularly the new 5th edition (released in August, 2003) is a must-have for on-call nights in the NICU. Although not as complete in terms of information as a full textbook, this book contains a blurb on nearly every topic one might encounter in the NICU. It is also surprisingly up to date for a textbook, containing the latest standards of care on controversial topics such as PPHN, use of ECMO and BPD, plus lots of other conditions.

This is no longer a spiral-bound book, which has positives and negatives. On the positive side, it's probably more durable long-term - no more ripping of pages and holes out of the spiral. On the negative side, it's harder to keep your page open without bending the spine out of shape.

This is by far the best on-call reference manual for neonatology. It's highly recommended by everyone I speak with, from staff to fellows to residents. I would recommend it as well!

    Editorial Review:

Practical and easily accessible manual on the basic and advanced management of the neonate. Covers procedures, disorders, and neonatal pharmacology in a logical outline approach that highlights the essentials of each procedure. The popular On Call Problems section presents over 30 common and serious patient problems. The Fifth Edition has been extensively revised and updated with new strategies for management of specific newborn respiratory diseases, updated information on the diagnosis and management of infectious diseases, and updated drug information.
