The information is hard to find, and does not match other books at times. I would put your money into one with better reviews and in a newer version.

How do you write for that again? 5 out of 5 stars.
2 of 2 people found this review helpful.

In the hospital: When your resident asks you to write orders for 17 medicines on one patient, you'll be glad you have this... It's in everyone's pocket. Make sure you have this year's copy. This is the one with small print and no spiral binding. This is almost ALWAYS quicker than the PDA. I've raced people. Also, no batteries to rely on.

Editorial Review:

Recently updated for 2008, the Tarascon Pocket Pharmacopoeia continues the high-quality tradition of a convenient, organized, and concise pocket manual packed with vital drug information meticulously peer-reviewed by experts and clinicians of multiple specialties. It details typical drug dosing (both FDA approved and off-label uses), available trade and generic formulations, metabolism, safety in pregnancy and lactation, relative drug pricing information, Canadian trade names, and an Herbal & Alternative Therapies section. Multiple invaluable tables supplement the drug content, including opioid equivalency, emergency drug infusions, cardiac dysrhythmia protocols, pediatric drug dosing, and much more!

The Best Book on the Disney Approach...Period 5 out of 5 stars.
10 of 10 people found this review helpful.

"But I'm not in the hospital business." Neither am I. But I am a Disney Institute alumnus and an avid practitioner of the Disney Approach to People Management, Quality Service, and Loyalty; and I've found "If Disney Ran Your Hospital" more helpful than anything else in print. I think you will, too. Here's why. A number of books explain the principles and practices that drive Disney. Most are helpful, and one, "Be Our Guest" by the Disney Institute, is indispensable. But Fred Lee does one thing better than anyone else: he models how to transfer those principles to another industry. That's what he did at the Disney Institute and that's what he will help you do in your business. Granted, his applications come from healthcare. But along the way Fred Lee demonstrates how to translate and apply the Disney Approach outside of the Disney setting, and that's what's so helpful--he provides an example that the rest of us can follow. If you're interested in benchmarking the Disney Approach, you need this book. One more thing: Fred Lee can write. "If Disney Ran Your Hospital" is the best book on the Disney Approach...period.

Editorial Review:

A captivating book, filled with stories and examples, will leave its readers inspired with fresh insights and new hope. A must for every hospital manager's library and required reading in every health care curriculum.

wait, there's more 5 out of 5 stars.
1 of 1 people found this review helpful.

Lexi-Comp's Drug Information Handbook is the bomb. No nagging adds like the PDR; just the facts, ma'am. More eye friendly than previous editions, and still packed with about a gillion tables in the appendix. Drug names are now in red. This is the cat's meow; I probably use it once a day in patient care. Shipping and price are much better through Amazon than through the publisher.

drg information handbook 5 out of 5 stars.

A great quick guide on drug information, perhaps, the best one. Full monographs of almost all of the drugs, including interactions. Much necessary to the pharmacists and other health professionals.

good pharmacy reference 4 out of 5 stars.

just that, a good pharmacy reference. It's a good addition to my other resources and is easy to use.

Great classic pharmacy reference! 5 out of 5 stars.
0 of 0 people found this review helpful.

This book is great. It's too large to carry in your white coat, but as a desktop reference it's unbeatable. I am a student pharmacist on rotations and it has already helped me immensely. I don't have a PDA, so this book is great for looking up quick details. The new features (drug names in red, larger size, reference charts in the back) make this much better than previous editions. Usually I just buy books "to have" and never really use them, but I've used this countless times in the first month I've had it.

Editorial Review:

....quick access to all medications found in the Drug Information Handbook in a concise, abridged format...with a modified Adverse Reactions field that includes only those reactions >1%, unless significant or life-threatening.

Basic & Clinical Pharmacology 5 out of 5 stars.
1 of 1 people found this review helpful.

While most of my students would not find this excellent work "basic", it is an outstanding adjunct to any healthcare professional's library. The chapters are well structured and the information is up to date. The illustrations have improved over the years and are mated well with the text.
In all, this is a worthwhile text for anyone studying pharmacology or a useful resource.

Still the Best Basic Text 5 out of 5 stars.
1 of 1 people found this review helpful.

Over the years I have purchased many editions of this classic text and have never been disappointed. Years ago I sat in Dr. Katzung's classes when he was a young man (and I was younger!) This book is invaluable because of its varied content--1. background physiology which is so important when one needs to review and keep up-to-date on new developments, 2. comparisons of chemical structures as new products come onto the market and 3. summary tables showing the different characteristics of the various drugs in any drug group and classification. This is the one clinical pharmacology text I wouldn't be without.

Editorial Review:

This valuepack includes a copy of Basic and Clinical Pharmacology, 9/e and USMLE Road Map Pharmacology, 2/e packaged together with a $10 discount built into the price. A valuable resource with two proven resources that will forward the comprehension of material and provide excellent USMLE test preparation tools.

Good drug reference except for the "self destruct" function 4 out of 5 stars.
0 of 0 people found this review helpful.

The electronic version of the PDR is more convenient than hauling a huge book around, however you should be aware that the CD-ROM "expires" and will cease to function after about a year. This "auto destruct" function is supposedly to protect against the risks of using outdated information, however it seems as likely it is in place to ensure a revenue stream for Thomson publishing; all the printed PDRs obviously don't disintegrate into dust a year after publication.

One plus side however, the CD-ROM includes much more information than the printed book including:

The PDR Main Edition (the main volume, what most people mean when they say "PDR")
The PDR for Nonprescription Drugs, Dietary Supplements, and Herbs
The PDR for Ophthalmic Medicines
The PDR Drug Interactions and Side Effects System

If you are considering purchase, be aware the 2009 version will be published on December 1st, 2008 (ISBN-10 1563637413).

Editorial Review:

* Today, PDR is considered the standard prescription drug reference and can be found in virtually every physician's office, hospital, and pharmacy 3,000+ pages containing information on more than 4,000 prescription drugs * New format allows dramatically improved readability and easier access to the information * Authoritative source of FDA-approved prescription drug information for over 60 years * Includes clinical pharmacology, indications and usage, contraindications, drug warnings, precautions, adverse reactions, overdose, dosage and administration * Contains more than 2,000 full-size, full-colour photographs cross-referenced to the product information

Great Resource for a student PNP 5 out of 5 stars.

I'm loving the detail and information given for each medication. It is a great resource for me. I have gone through and marked my commonly used medications for easy reference.

Excellent Resource 5 out of 5 stars.
1 of 1 people found this review helpful.

This book is comprehensive for pediatric clinicians. Format is easy to use and very through information.

reliable source for the pediatrician 4 out of 5 stars.
1 of 1 people found this review helpful.

This is a great source to have access to (especially if you're looking up pediatric drugs at home and don't have access to UptoDate or Micromedex). It is a thorough reference. The major down-side is that it lacks an index for generic/trade names. Maybe it's there and I still haven't found it, but this is a problem when one is trying to quick reference a drug. Nevertheless, I haven't found a superior drug reference in a readily available book in pediatrics (online, I'd say Micromedex is even more complete, but in a book, this is the best). Also, for neonatal dosing, I would prefer Neofax.

Editorial Review:

The pediatric population is a dynamic group, with major changes in pharmacokinetics and pharmacodynamics taking place throughout infancy and childhood. Because of these vital changes, the need for the evaluation and establishment of medication dosing regimens in children of different ages is great. The Pediatric Dosage Handbook, 15th Edition, continues to be the trusted information resource for medical professionals managing pediatric patients.
