Necessary Evil 4 out of 5 stars.

The program that I am in requires that I write all of my papers in this style, so I was forced to purchase the book. I do highly recommend the spiral format, as it is awfully easy to use.

Editorial Review:

In addition to providing guidance on grammar, the mechanics of writing, and APA style, this manual offers an authoritative reference and citation system. It also covers the treatment of numbers, metrication, statistical and mathematical data, tables and figures for use in writing, reports or presentations. This new edition has been updated to include: guidelines and examples for referencing electronic and online sources; avoiding plagiarism; presenting case studies and the construction of tables; copyright and permissions issues for writers; and reference examples for audiovisual media and patents. Writers, scholars and professionals will also find guidelines on how to choose text, tables or figures to present data, writing cover letters, the retention of raw data and on establishing written agreements for the use of shared data.

I could not believe the difference in the New tabers Dictionary, the last one I purchased was when I was in Nurses training. Iam very please with the product and am glad I went into Amazon.com looking for it. I didn't think there was a new edition. Thank You

I bought this for a Christmas present. She has checked around and said this is the best one. It was shipped in perfect condition and I can't wait to give it to her.

It's never lupus! 5 out of 5 stars.

I love this book compared to "stanton" at my school. I found that dictionary to be too big and wordy. This book was even approved by my professor, so any med student should seriously consider buying this nice reference book. There isn't much more I can say, enjoy!

Tabler's Cyclopedic Medical Dictionary 5 out of 5 stars.

Must have for medical students 5 out of 5 stars.
2 of 2 people found this review helpful.

Although the expectations for medical students are not that of residents and interns, this book is very helpful. Evidence-based medicine is the term heard over and over on the wards and this pocket book will help with that. When presenting a patient, you may be asked which study showed the effectiveness of which treatment. This book has it. It is updated with references as recent as 2007 which is impressive. It will also save time when preparing a talk because as mentioned, the landmark studies are all incorporated in the text. Worth upgrading from the 2nd edition.

Editorial Review:

Prepared by residents and attending physicians at Massachusetts General Hospital, this pocket-sized looseleaf is one of the best-selling references for medical students, interns, and residents on the wards and candidates reviewing for internal medicine board exams. In bulleted lists, tables, and algorithms, Pocket Medicine provides key clinical information about common problems in cardiology, pulmonology, gastroenterology, nephrology, hematology-oncology, infectious diseases, endocrinology, rheumatology, and neurology. The six-ring binder resembles the familiar "pocket brain" notebook that most students and interns carry and allows users to add notes. This Third Edition is fully updated, has tabs to help readers locate organ systems, and has more cross-referencing in the index. It also has pockets in the front and the back of the book to accommodate the reader's own notes.

a tiny little aid during rounds and rotations. it is perfectly color coordinated by categories, really easy to read and follow with the basic info on many subjects. i found the part on writing everyday patient notes extremely helpful since i tend to forget a few things.
i decided to laminate the pages so that it can outlast stains and possible spills. wonderful purchase :)

Editorial Review:

The Maxwell Quick Medical Reference is a best-selling pocket guide that includes essential information used in everyday medical practice. Laminated front and back covers, cardstock paper, and plastic spiral binding make the book durable day-in and day-out. Color-coded pages group the information by topic and make it quickly accessible. Shirt pocket size allows it to go anywhere - the wards, E.R., O.R., or clinic. This inexpensive pocket guide will save you time at work and make you look good in the process.

I've had the PDA version of this book's 31st edition and I liked so much that when the 32nd edition came out I could not resist to buy the actual book. It is a great book for a quick review of many topics. I personally complement some of the topics with UptoDate and works great.

good overview book 4 out of 5 stars.
4 of 4 people found this review helpful.

excellent overview book. concise. good organization. high-yield materials. great for those 5-10 minute breaks. content is too limited to be the only resource. need to supplement your study with real textbooks.

overated and not updated as it claims 2 out of 5 stars.
3 of 3 people found this review helpful.

I have been studying for the USMLE step 3 since Last May, I have bought a number of review books from nail the board to the recall as well as first aid step 3.

I have nearly completed the USMLEWORLD qbank and been doing kaplan Qbank and at this point, I was tempted to take a look at the so called "throughly updated", Crush step 3, which is false and misleading. They simply changed the coloring and layout of the same book and added a few tables for vaccinations and RA meds!

Its not really updated but they added such as "smoking is the number one modifiable cause of death" instead of older version, which was preventable...

there are many outdated informations and simply incorrect informations but they did not bother to correct it but still claims to be "throughly updated".

PCOS or PCOD, it does not mention the weight loss as one of the first line RX (OCP) and it fails to mention one important modality, which is metformine beside clomiphene if pt desires pregnancy.

And when it comes to viral hepatitis, It fails to mentions the significance of having concurrent hepatitis D with Hep B, means it accelerates the hepatitis B with more aggressive progression. A third year med student knows that hep D is a dependent on Hep B as it mentions. It is same information as Crush step 2.

For Mallory-Weiss tears, it also fails to mention one critical concept that it often self limited and stops bleeding its own but the author says that sclerose any bleeding vessel, of course a third year surgery rotation student knows that if bleeding vessele, it has to be scloerosed!

For Esophageal CA, the author says that adenocarcinoma is now more common than Squamous cell CA, which is incorrect! There is equal incidence of both types of Esophageal CA in the US, and in the worldwide, 90% of the esophageal CA is the Squamous Cell CA. Adenocarcinoma of esophagus is most prevalent in whites and it rarely seen in blacks in the US.

For pseudotumor Cerebri, it says the treatment is "supportive" and weight loss helps, it not repeat LP or shunt. This is incorrect and misleading to say "supportive" when there is serious threat of blindness if the IOP is not lowered by Diuretics acutely and yes, by shunt.

For infant botulism/botulism, the author says the child may need to be intubated and spontaneous recovery so on....but it fails to even mention of monovalent human derived antitoxin treatment for the infantile botulism. The most updated information says that all patients receive antitoxin immune serum to prevent progression and shorten the duration.

For G6PD deficiency, the author says that treat by avoiding precipitating food and medications but this is also expected that a second year med student knows it to stop the precipiationg drugs! it should have mention that treatment also include IV hydration for acute episode and folic acid supplementation as some authors even says lifetime supplements of folic acid for all G6PD deficiency pts.

I found first aid is "better" and more accurate than this longtime overrated book, Yet it is true that there is no such thing as a perfect board review book.

I have been reading "page in a medicine book" series and I found this is surprisingly well written, evidence based and updated..

Editorial Review:

The author of the highly popular Crush the Boards presents this easy-to-use and effective high-yield review for the USMLE Step 3. This book is perfect for busy house officers who need a concise review that hits all the commonly tested concepts, topics, and subspecialties. Information is presented in the same manner as the actual exam and all subspecialty topics covered in Step 3 are addressed. The text includes tables and illustrations, along with vignette sections. Dr. Brochert also offers tips and guidance on how to prepare and what to expect. Students who master the concepts in this book will Crush Step 3!

This is so much easier than carrying the huge book around. It is short and sweet. I do have to refer to "the big one" from time to time, but love this little thing!

Worth the money 5 out of 5 stars.

It is exactly what it says, a quick reference. If you are buying it for clinical work for quick referencing in staff meetings it is perfect however it does not replace the full DSM for thorough case studies. If you need a quick and small reference, I would suggest buying this book.

Editorial Review:

The Quick Reference to the Diagnostic Criteria From DSM-IV-TR® is a handy, low priced companion to the ultimate psychiatric reference, DSM-IV-TR®. It includes all the diagnostic criteria from DSM-IV-TR® in an easy-to-use, paperback format.

In making DSM-IV diagnosis, clinicians and researchers may find it convenient to consult the Quick Reference to the Diagnostic Criteria From DSM-IV-TR®, a pocket sized book that contains the classification, the diagnosis criteria, and a listing of the most important conditions to be considered in a differential diagnosis for each category.
