This book was very helpful when I was going through IVF. I loved being able to look up questions I may have. I'm glad I bought it.

While dry, clinical information is available, there is a gaping need for sisterly advice from someone who's been through the process herself. From evaluating care and preparing for the complicated process to understanding egg retrieval and embryo transfer; from tips on taking medications and coping with hormonal surges to dealing with the emotional aspects of the grueling IVF process, Liza Charlesworth's The Couple's Guide to In Vitro Fertilization offers knowing, sensitive counsel. Full of hard-won personal wisdom and the most up-to-date medical information explained in layman's terms, this invaluable guide is sure to become recommended reading for couples trying to conceive and their families alike.

Less info than other books 2 out of 5 stars.
2 of 2 people found this review helpful.

I purchased this book after reading taking charge of your fertility, and i felt like it was no where near as informative. There is a lot of non-sensical things like writing down made up stories about your ancestors fertility problems... i thought that was kind of odd. Overall there are much better books out there about fertility and cycles.

Editorial Review:

The Garden of Fertility is a guide to using fertility awareness-that is, reading fertility signals in order to prevent or achieve pregnancy. Certified fertility educator Katie Singer explains how to observe and chart fertility cycles to determine when a woman is most fertile to increase chances of conception, or to exercise birth control naturally-a method that, when followed precisely, is as effective as the Pill. Unlike other books on fertility awareness, The Garden of Fertility also describes how to use the charts to gauge gynecological health and offers nonmedical options for strengthening reproductive wellness. This book provides all the information women never learned in sex education class, but should have.

Information and empathy all in one 5 out of 5 stars.
0 of 0 people found this review helpful.

Dr. Silber perfectly matches science and empathy in this book. For someone who tried unsuccessfully for years to get pregnant this book was a lifesaver. It answered questions and provided information in a format that was easy to read. It's great!

    Editorial Review:

First published in 1981, this is a straightforward guide to infertility and its treatment. The author is a physician who developed the technique for vasectomy reversal and performed the first successful testicle and ovary transplants. The text and illustrations provide information on the normal functioning of the male and female reproductive systems, diagnostic tests for men and women, conventional treatments (including drugs, surgery and behaviour modification), and simple treatments for problems such as undiagnosed physical difficulties and easily-altered personal habits. There is also coverage of sexual positions and techniques designed to enhance the chances of pregnancy, anxiety and its effects of fertility, and birth control and sterilization.

May not be appropriate if your teen is choosing abstinence 3 out of 5 stars.
35 of 47 people found this review helpful.

I own Toni's first book, "TCOYF" and it completely changed the way I look at my body and my cycles. So I was thrilled that she came out with this book for teens. I purchased it with the intent of giving it to my younger sister, but after reading it; I have decided to return it.

What I loved: The first two parts (Cycle Smart and Cycle Signals) cover all the basics on the female body that I guarentee your kids will never hear about in school. :) Toni discusses the different stages in a woman's cycle, including charting your fertility signs to help understand your body. The book is very well put together with fun illustrations and page layouts. The writing is smart and fun, and very easy to read.
This book does not teach FAM as a means of birth control. In fact, I was hopeful after reading the following in the introduction: "...this book is no more a sex-education manual than it is a primer on tampons."

What I didn't love: The third part of the book (Cycle Solutions) has a chapter called "From Cycle Savvy to Sex Smart" that seemed to contradict this statment in the intro. I will conceed that from a world/secular standpoint, this chapter is presented in a very balanced way. Most of the chapter is filled with stories of teenage girls' experiences with sex. The stories cover the spectrum, from "I had sex as a teen and regret it every day" to "I waited for just the right time with my boyfriend" and everything in between. If you or your daughter are proponents of abstinence, you will definitely want to look over this chapter before buying.

From a Christian standpoint, the information presented in this chapter is completely incongruent with what the Bible teaches. As much as I love Toni and everything she has done to empower women, and as much as I loved everything else about this book, this one chapter was enough for me to return it.

    Editorial Review:

Review Book Images 1 out of 5 stars.
1 of 1 people found this review helpful.

I liked the outlined material, it was in a simple and easy to study form. However, the ARDMS uses ultrasound images frequently on the exam and therefore image review is a very useful tool in preparing. The images in this book were totally undiagnostic. I have been a registered sonographer for many years and could not make out the images. Being that image review is such a critical part of the ARDMS test, I would personally recommend a book that has better images to review.

    Editorial Review:

Designed to both instruct and prepare individuals for certification examinations, this text offers two mock registry examinations as well as a succinct review of abdominal and OB/GYN ultrasound. A lively, interactive review format follows the ARDMS Guidelines for the Registry Examinations and provides: over 800 questions with detailed explanations for both correct and incorrect answers; test-taking strategies; blank answer sheets for self-evaluation; useful appendices on word origins and lab tests; and extensive bibliography that promotes further study. High-quality images enhance the text. Includes a CD-ROM with randomized mock examinations for realistic preparation.

    Editorial Review:

"An insightful, encouraging, and provocative toolbox for couples seeking fertility."-Dr. Mehmet Oz, the co-author of the You series of books "Greene is a fertility specialist, reproductive endocrinologist, obstetrician, gynecologist and hormone researcher, so his patients struggling with infertility, he says, are often surprised when, instead of suggesting state-of-the-art, expensive fertility treatments, he advocates changes in diet and lifestyle. Greene offers plenty of case studies to prove that his plan can work where assisted reproductive technologies fail. He believes that, in many cases, unexplained infertility is caused by imbalanced hormones. Improper diet, lack of exercise and stress can cause the body's hormones to go out of whack. With a dietary overhaul (drastically reduce animal products and go organic for starters), prenatal supplements and the addition of yoga or other stress reducers, Greene has been able to make many couples' dreams of having a baby come true. Greene points out that many other factors can affect fertility (exposure to extreme heat, toxic chemicals or bike riding on a hard seat, for example) and offers tips to improve your chances of conceiving. This book is a must-read for couples having difficulty getting pregnant."

Asperger's Understood, Applied for Adolescents 5 out of 5 stars.
16 of 22 people found this review helpful.

This is a great Asperger's book for counselors, family and especially teenagers. It covers the whole spectrum of symptoms and treatment and focuses on the sexual questions that a teenager or young adult might not feel free to discuss. It is respectful of their natural sexuality and the problems that may arise out of their inability to find release for their sexual desires. It is a reassuring and positive book about life's full potential for those suffering from this often undiagnosed developmental disorder. A great addition to the wide spectrum of books on Aspergers.

    Editorial Review:

Playing the dating game is often tricky: all the more so for individuals with Asperger's Syndrome. How do AS adolescents and their families cope with sexual feelings and behaviour? What help can be given if a man with AS oversteps the mark in expressing his sexuality? How do people with AS deal with intimacy and communication in sexual relationships? In this comprehensive and unique guide, Isabelle Henault delivers practical information and advice on issues ranging from puberty and sexual development, gender identity disorders, couples' therapy to guidelines for sex education programs and maintaining sexual boundaries. This book will prove indispensable to parents, teachers, counsellors and individuals with AS themselves.
