Outdated information 2 out of 5 stars.
4 of 5 people found this review helpful.

I made the mistake of purchasing his older book called The A.R.T. of making babies updated edition. Do not buy unless your doing a research paper. This book was written in 1998 and the information is outdated. Make sure you purchase the 2005 edition. I wish amazon.com would have made this clearer. I did read it anyways and had the book been filled with updated information it could be informative. I found the "Couple's guide to In Vitro Fertilization a much better book. Having recently gone through the procedure it was right on the money and very easy to read and understand.

Editorial Review:

Approximately four million couples in the U.S. face infertility. For about 25 percent of them, in vitro fertilization is the best option for conception, yet many couples remain uninformed about the procedure. Written by one of the top in vitro specialists in the country, In Vitro Fertilization, Third Edition presents a clearly written, complete guide to alternative means of conception. Now thoroughly updated and revised, this book discusses everything one needs to know about IVF, including how to find and choose the best in vitro programs, what to expect as you go through the process, and what your chances are of achieving a successful pregnancy. Designed to prepare couples for the complex and emotional process of IVF, this new edition provides readers with the most accurate and current information available. Written in non-technical terminology, this book is the perfect reference for anyone facing this controversial and confusing procedure.

Great Review of a wordy textbook! 5 out of 5 stars.

I think it is almost equivalent to reading Speroff...saves time and also the questions really help highlight major points.
I wish they had one for the 7th edition Speroff, though.

Med Student 5 out of 5 stars.

Great pocket reference. Concise and easy to use.
A must have for anyone doing an Ob/Gyn rotation.

Good if you are thinking of doing OB/GYN residency 5 out of 5 stars.

This is a good and concise reference book, but not worth the purchase if you aren't considering doing OB/GYN as a profession. Blueprints is enough to get you through the 3rd year rotation. I would have preferred larger pages to reduce the number of total pages in the book, this way it would have fit better in my white coat pocket. Something to consider for next edition I guess.

Review of book 4 out of 5 stars.

Nice book, can be carried in the pocket and is a great guide and quick reference document for the busy clinician. Quite up to date and easy to read.

Editorial Review:

The latest addition to our Handbook for Clinicians Series. Same trim size as teh Ob/Gyn and Internal Medicine Handbooks.

The Birth of the Scholarly Page Turner 5 out of 5 stars.
6 of 8 people found this review helpful.

This is good stuff-if not juicy, and Spar casts a wide net that doesn't miss a thing: conception techniques, fertility markets, surrogacy, designer babies, human cloning, and adoption. The writer also has the guts to have a lucid, constructive point of view-never backing away from the controversial subjects many would balk about discussing. This book is a must read for anyone who might, is, or has gone through any of the processes above, and for the rest of us like me, just a great eye-opening read. In fact, I kept thinking as the pages turned: "I had no idea..." As a piece of scholarly writing it is immaculate (check out the pages of footnotes!), but more impressive is the fact that Spar's writing style is trenchant, entertaining and unwavering in it's ability to present a point of view to the reader. I wasn't expecting it, but Spar continually challenges and provokes as she weaves her riveting tale of the dynamics of a topic-both moral and technical-that is dear to the hearts of us all: babies. Wow. A scholarly page-turner!? Shouldn't there be an award for that? It's great read, and I highly recommend it.

Editorial Review:

Advances in reproductive medicine have created an undeniable 'market for babies', in which parents choose traits, clinics woo clients, and specialised providers earn millions of dollars a year. This book argues that it is time to acknowledge this largely secretive and controversial market as a commercial industry - and explores the legal, moral and regulatory challenges that must be addressed as the baby business moves inevitably forward.

No useful information 1 out of 5 stars.
76 of 84 people found this review helpful.

This book was a boring weak monograph on a subject that needs new coverage. Instead of covering Fokorg's or Hammil's new theories and suggestions on stimulating the G-spot and explosive orgasm, this book brought me back to the 60s asking does a G-spot exist? and gave the reader endless detail to prove that it does. As a Gynecologist, I have been taught and I have taught that a G-spot exists for nearly 30 years. As a woman I was bored endlessly by a book that offered little to no new information on the G-spot and no information on stimulating the G-spot. Do not buy.

Regardless, I praise Amazon.com for advocating freedom of expression even if it may involve bad reviews of books they sell.

Editorial Review:

The groundbreaking New York Times bestseller now available for the first time in trade paperback, with a new Introduction When it was originally published in 1982, The G Spot was the first book to prove the existence and define the location of the Gräfenberg spot, a patch of erectile tissue that can be felt through the front wall of the vagina, directly behind the pubic bone. In print continuously for twenty-two years, it has sold more than 1,000,000 copies to date internationall. This first-ever trade paperback edition includes a new introduction by Dr. Hilda Hutcherson, author of What Your Mother Never Told Your about S-E-X, which brings the research in the book up-to-date and explains its continued relevance. Now a new generation of men and women can take advantage of the insights and practical suggestions of this classic work.

Editorial Review:

Insight and frank, friendly advice on overcoming infertility -- from two women who have lived through it all.

We are bombarded by images of blissful older mothers, such as Madonna and Celine Dion. But 'Hollywood' articles about pregnancy and fertility at middle age gloss over the tremendous amount of financial, emotional, and physical effort faced by couples struggling to conceive.

In this warm, funny, empathetic book, journalist Julie Vargo and literary agent Maureen Regan -- women who have experienced personally almost every aspect of infertility -- give readers a glimpse into what to expect when you're not expecting. Hormones, sperm counts -- nothing is too personal for these two outspoken women!

Ranges from technical to humorous and everything in between. What are good, snappy comebacks to the question, 'Why aren't you pregnant?' What is the difference between gonadotrophin releasing hormone and progesterone? Should you freeze your eggs? These questions and many more are answered, and in the tone of a couple of good friends. Between them, the authors have gone through hormone treatments, miscarriages and multiple inseminations -- so they know firsthand the rollercoaster ride of trying to achieve pregnancy.

With wise advice on how to communicate with doctors, husbands, friends, and mothers, this book is an invaluable guide for all women facing infertility.
