Excellent Review for a low yield subject on the Boards 5 out of 5 stars.
3 of 3 people found this review helpful.

This is much more concise than the new version. This little book helps you put the H.Y. facts of embryo together not just as a subject on its own but in conjunction to pathology. I would specially recommend the first 3 chapters to get a quick idea of embryo genesis and the cardio, respiratory, GI sections for quick kill on the congenital abnormalities that are extensively talked about in Pathology. I particularly recommend to read the latter chapters alongside with Goljan's Rapid Review Pathology.

Editorial Review:

High-Yield(TM) Embryology, Third Edition provides a concise, focused review of the most important embryology information needed for the USMLE Step 1. Chapters cover prefertilization events and the embryonic period, embryologic development of each organ system, chromosomal abnormalities, inherited diseases, teratology and more. To prepare students for the clinical vignettes on the USMLE, the book includes numerous clinical cases with words and phrases that patients use. A mini-atlas at the end of each chapter presents photographs, MRIs, CT scans, and radiographs of various congenital malformations.

9 of 9 people found this review helpful.

This is one of the bibles of the OB/GYN resident. Excellent reference for the in-service exams. Simple diagrams & tables make this text readable and easy to understand.

Excellent reference! 5 out of 5 stars.
7 of 7 people found this review helpful.

This text offers a straight-forward reference to assist in the management of gyn problems I commonly encounter as a Family Doctor. It goes into great detail about anatomy and physiology of gynecologic problems yet is well-organized for use as a "quick reference". For example, it took less than a minute to find the section on hirsuitism to refresh my memory as to what the initial work-up should consist of.

Editorial Review:

This completely updated Sixth Edition reflects the growth of reproductive biology and medicine. While adhering to the style and relevance of the first edition, the editors set out to provide the latest information and research on reproductive physiology, contraception, infertility, and clinical endocrinology. Heavy emphasis is also placed on progestins and hormone administration and therapy within several chapters of the text. Comprehensive, relevant, and highly informative, this edition truly lends itself to the improvement of patient care in the field of clinical reproductive endocrinology.

Editorial Review:

The "hormone of desire," testosterone, acts on the brain to stimulate sexual interest, sensitivity to sexual stimulation, and orgasmic ability in both sexes. The amount of testosterone circulating in a woman's blood declines by about 50 percent between her twenties and fifties. The most common complaint associated with this decline is a seemingly unexplainable decrease or loss of sexual desire and enjoyment.

In I'm Not in the Mood, Dr. Reichman reveals the effectiveness of small doses of testosterone in reviving sexual desire and pleasure for women. Questions answered and topics discussed include:

  • Why and when do women make male hormones?

  • Where do all our male hormones go?

  • Behavior, life changes, and medical problems that affect our libido

  • Medications that affect our libido

  • Will creams, pills, lozenges, patches, or shots help?

  • When you should see a psychiatrist, psychologist, or sex therapist

  • How to discuss libido issues with your doctor

  • How to reach your biologic sexual potential

Less info than other books 2 out of 5 stars.
2 of 2 people found this review helpful.

I purchased this book after reading taking charge of your fertility, and i felt like it was no where near as informative. There is a lot of non-sensical things like writing down made up stories about your ancestors fertility problems... i thought that was kind of odd. Overall there are much better books out there about fertility and cycles.

Editorial Review:

The Garden of Fertility is a guide to using fertility awareness-that is, reading fertility signals in order to prevent or achieve pregnancy. Certified fertility educator Katie Singer explains how to observe and chart fertility cycles to determine when a woman is most fertile to increase chances of conception, or to exercise birth control naturally-a method that, when followed precisely, is as effective as the Pill. Unlike other books on fertility awareness, The Garden of Fertility also describes how to use the charts to gauge gynecological health and offers nonmedical options for strengthening reproductive wellness. This book provides all the information women never learned in sex education class, but should have.

I can't say enough good things about this book. For several years,I have had problems mourning and moving past my infertility. This book helped me finally move on from the hurt and disappointment because it helped me realize that lots of other people feel the same pain and anger when they struggle with infertility. It made me realize that I am NORMAL and infertility is a devastating thing that should not be taken lightly. I feel so much better having read this book.

Editorial Review:

Progress in genetic and reproductive technology now offers us the possibility of choosing what kinds of children we do and don't have. Should we welcome this power, or should we fear its implications? There is no ethical question more urgent than this: we may be at a turning-point in the history of humanity. The renowned moral philosopher and best-selling author Jonathan Glover shows us how we might try to answer this question, and other provoking and disturbing questions to which it leads.
Surely parents owe it to their children to give them the best life they can? Increasingly we are able to reduce the number of babies born with disabilities and disorders. But there is a powerful new challenge to conventional thinking about the desirability of doing so: this comes from the voices of those who have these conditions. They call into question the very definition of disability. How do we justify trying to avoid bringing people like them into being?
In 2002 a deaf couple used sperm donated by a friend with hereditary deafness to have a deaf baby: they took the view that deafness is not a disability, but a difference. Starting with the issues raised by this case, Jonathan Glover examines the emotive idea of "eugenics", and the ethics of attempting to enhance people, for non-medical reasons, by means of genetic choices. Should parents be free, not only to have children free from disabilities, but to choose, for instance, the colour of their eyes or hair? This is no longer a distant prospect, but an existing power which we cannot wish away. What impact will such interventions have, both on the individuals concerned and on society as a whole?
Should we try to make general improvements to the genetic make-up of human beings? Is there a central core of human nature with which we must not interfere?
This beautifully clear book is written for anyone who cares about the rights and wrongs of parents' choices for their children, anyone who is concerned about our human future. Glover handles these uncomfortable questions in a controversial but always humane and sympathetic manner.
